Played Nicklaus course
There was an outing on the Weiskolp course so I got to play Nicklaus instead without up charges. Beautiful course with some spectacular views but very challenging for all but the most accurate strikers.
Better than expected!
My son (16) and I played a round during his high school spring break. We played on a Tuesday and I booked our golf using the GolfNow app. I paid $75 for each of us -- with taxes the total was $165. We didn't travel with our own clubs, so we had rent clubs. They gave us two choices (standard or deluxe). The standard was $55 per set and appeared to be random clubs (mix of Taylor Made Sim2 and other random sets). We decided to go with the deluxe set ($65 per set) -- Calaway Rogue DS (irons) and Rogue Max D (driver). The set was 5 thru sand wedge, plus 4 hybrid, 5 wood driver and Oddysey putter. Stock set, but not bad. They were definitely used, but still had good life. The drivers had regular flex shaft which took a little adjusting to. Not a big deal.
Golf (18 holes), clubs, cart and range balls all came to 5,700 mx pesos ($285 US dollars).
We stayed at the Marriott (across the street), so we just walked over to the clubhouse. We arrived at 1pm for a 2:30 tee time). We decided to eat a quick lunch while they got our clubs ready. The restaurant at the club house was great. We got a table overlooking the 18th green. It was fun watching golfers finishing thier round.
The range and practice putting green were both great.
We hit the snack shop prior to starting our round. Bought a few waters/sodas/beers and they gave us a complimentary cart cooler (with ice).
The course Marshall (starter) introduced himself while we were on the range and mentioned we could start earlier than our 2:30 tee time if we wanted. We elected to start early and hit our 1st shots by 2:10.
Course was in great shape. Greens were solid. They ran faster than we are used to. Really, no complaints about the course. Fairways were a little tight for me. I'm a 7 handicap and I went OB 3 times. Hit the water twice, but was able to find and collect both those water balls.
We saw about 10 crocodiles on the course. They were just basking in the sun. On one hole, a 6 foot crocodile was on the black tee box. We hit from the whites, so no issues there. It was actually fun knowing the crocs were on the course, we just gave them plenty of space.
Overall, we really enjoyed the round and would play here again without hesitation. Staff were great, and the GolfNow app saved us some money (because we started in the afternoon). It was March, so temps were fine (83 degrees). We saw a beverage cart 3 times during our round.
We brought balls, tees, gloves . . . So we saved some money there.
Great Course
Great Course with great service. Challenging greens.
One glaring weakness, otherwise very good
The weakness of this course are the hard, granular sand traps. Otherwise, the design is interesting and challenging, the greens are in excellent condition for a heavily played track, and the fairways are in decent shape. The course tends to beat me up, even on good ball striking days. I find it very challenging.
Interesting
Played in the late afternoon by myself in just over two hours. The course has interesting holes, and the conditioning is very good. Mr. Wieskoff likes the deep hazards and there a number of these to navigate, though probably more visually distracting that actually in play. I had a great time, despite the high winds, and at the price I paid ($125) I would certainly recommend.
The one piece I found troubling was the stark contrast between the living conditions you see on the way to the course and the beautiful facility where the course is located on the edge of town. My previous review got flagged so I am being more careful this time. You might not give it much mind, but I found it jarring and will leave it at that.
Okay but only at the right price
I enjoyed chatting with the marshalls and there are a few interesting holes, but this is not the best course around and even at the reduced rate through Golfnow I cannot recommend it. If this was in Palm Springs I would categorize it as a bottom tier course that would have been ok at $35-50 pre C19 and no more than $70 afterward.
Thin lies, rocks in bunkers, grass is patchy, and some holes are odd or Mickey Mouse. Greens were in good shape though. Par 3 along the ocean is pretty.
The Croc Course
You gotta love when your playing partners and cadie are Crocodiles! Seriously though the course was in good shape and the course employees are friendly and helpful.
Kinda of a ripoff
Overpriced. Bad conditions. No starter. Bad pace of play.
Cool Birds and Crocs
Greens were very good, but everything else was unkept.
Great course but rentals were poir
Visited with my son and had a great day. Wasn’t busy so we played in three hours. Loved the layout and course conditions were excellent. Biggest disappointment was the rentals. For seventy $ they should be new each year and not missing clubs
This course is located close to downtown
First time playing this course and found it to be very enjoyable. Nice layout with multiple tee boxes for all levels of golfers. Would recommend this course be part of your Puerto Vallarta experience.
Great course
This is a great course but way to many sand traps for a higher handicapper like 14+ . The pace is wonderful and the Course was in great condition. Drink cart was rare seen her in the 4th hole while we still had drinks from clubhouse and never again. Back 9 was pretty dry
Go play Marina Vallarta
Course is in good shape. Pace was a bit slow as we were to be the first group off at 2:30 and wound up hitting 4th. Restaurant and pro shop were excellent. Great staff. Finished 18 with time to spare.
Croc alley
Fun course, plenty water and believe the warning signs about crocs! Greens in good condition.
