About Hotel Casa Velas and Velas Vallarta

Located on beautiful Banderas Bay, Casa Velas and Velas Vallarta are two well-known all-inclusive resorts that offer a wide variety of amenities for every type of traveler. Because they’re sister properties under the same ownership, guests can enjoy luxury suites with garden, golf course, or ocean views at either location, along with transportation and access to amenities at both resorts. Casa Velas is an adults-only resort that offers a peaceful, upscale atmosphere with three restaurants and bars, several pools and Jacuzzis with concierge service and VIP access to the exclusive Táu Beach Club. Guests can unwind at the world-class luxury spa, which features treatments and hydrotherapy circuits, or stay active with swimming, tennis, beach volleyball and a full fitness center. Right next door, Velas Vallarta is a family-friendly resort with various restaurants, daily buffets and gourmet dining options, along with fully stocked minibars. Guests can stroll through lush tropical gardens, relax on the beach, swim in one of the three pools, or enjoy a game of tennis or basketball. There’s also a Kids’ Club with fun, supervised activities designed just for younger guests. Golfers staying at either resort have access to two nearby clubs. Marina Vallarta Club de Golf, designed by Joe Finger adjacent to Casa Velas, is an 18-hole course that offers incredible views of the Sierra Madre mountains, Banderas Bay and the tropical coastline. A half-hour cab ride away, Vista Vallarta Golf Club features two 18-hole championship courses, one by Jack Nicklaus and one by Tom Weiskopf. The Nicklaus course sits at a higher elevation and offers panoramic views of Puerto Vallarta, the marina and the bay, while the Weiskopf course winds through jungle, ravines and creeks for a more rugged, scenic round.

Better than I remember

I generally play the Weiskopf course at Vista Vallarta, having played Nicklaus 3-4 years ago and not enjoying it because of so many forced carries over arroyos. That criticism is still fair, but the course is nevertheless a fun challenge and very well designed. I will be back.

Single golf outing while in port

On a cruise and in port from 7:30am-3:30pm. Saw that the course was somewhat close to the port and decided to golf 18 by myself. Took a taxi to the course, about a 10 min ride in the am. Arrived and went to the club house, needed to check in and rent clubs. They had TaylorMade and Callaway for options and I used the TaylorMade I35 irons and woods. Very nice rental set but it did cost $70. Got paired with three randoms and they were great to spend a round with. I would say the back nine is much more difficult than the front nine, and there are huge gators on this course, very different wildlife than back home! Cart comes with booking the round and the practice facility (driving range and putting green) were decent. Mats at the range with range balls available no cost comes with the round. Little soggy wet spots in the fairways nothing too bad but had some mud balls. Nice restaurant to grab a bit to eat/drink after the round. Security at the front entrance waived down a taxi for me to get back to the ship. From ship to course and back was about 6 hours and the ride back had traffic but only took 15 mins. $25 for each way, not the best value but it gets you there and back no problem.

Great condition, well kept course!

Very nice course from walking into the pro shop to finishing the 18th hole.

Everything is in very good shape.

Fairways, bunkers , tee boxes and green are very well maintained.

If I had a complaint it’s the price!

Just too much for golf in Mexico.

But the staff sure help make the price a little easier.

Was not impressed that you have to buy a drink to get a cooler of ice for the cart!
