This course has great features and could be a very beautiful chllenging course.
The course is in terrible condition so I definitely would not refer it to friends as of now. It is worth the price you pay if it was closer to where you live. We would not drive that far to play it again. It has so much potential and we can see that they are trying. I would love to play it if it had any green grass on the fairways at all. It is definitely challenging and has a lot to offer.
Great Layout
Such a fun course to play it's fairly easy to overlook the conditions to enjoy the course. Looks like they are tryiing to improve conditions. Pin placements were on the best part of the greens which were pretty good and recovering. Tee boxes were level and except number 3-blue, suitable stance/tee could be found. Fairways, while dormat look like they will recover when bermuda recovers, we saw resodding starting to take place on the back nine. Bunkers were rough, no sand; hopefully priorty for greenside bunkers...had to play lift and place. If you're a pristine golf snob, don't bother, but if you want a challange, Stronghold is still a great track.
Great layout that needs some TLC
This is a great course in terms of the layout. There are some really fun holes to play here.
Know that this is a summer course so if you play from Dec-April this course will not be in the best shape. They do not over-seed their grass!
I can't wait to go back… but I will wait until April.
Great desert topography and fantastic scenery
The course conditions weren't great, dry fairways, decent greens and t boxes, BUT you have to play this course just to see the surrounding. When they get some water on it, it will be super. I will go out of my way to play it again.
scenery is awesome
suggest markers in the middle of the fairway. These would be very helpful especially for first time golfers at the course
you get what you pay for
Sand traps with no sand and no rakes. Fairways had not seen water in some time. Greens were spotty with numerous bare patches. Cart paths were dust tracks. There are some challenging holes and pretty scenery but the course needs a LOT of attention. It's also 1.5 hours drive from Mesa.
Excellent View
This is an amazing course that requires some work. If they are able to get this course into good condition it will be one of the most popular golf destinations in AZ. The view is amazing!!!!!!
Tons of potential.
We took the scenic drive from Mesa to Globe to try this course. Booked a Hot Deal for an amazing 15.00 per person with cart. Most of the other tee times were 29.00. Staff was very friendly carts were fine and had complimentary botted water. We played in just under 3 hours. The course layout is great. Had seen some complaints about the carries for women but my wife had one of here better rounds here. The course needs some attention the bunkers are not maintained and the fairways were dormant but playable. They have a few bad spots on some of the greens but did a good job with the pins to keep them out of play. For the value and the scenic drive it was a nice day
Great price great layout
The couse has an excellent layout and the greens are in great condition. The fairways have some bad area and the bunkers need some help. But remeber this course was closed down for over 3 years and is making a come back. For the price it is well worth the drive as often we are the only ones on the course and compared to the price and the 5 hours rounds in Scottsdale it is no debate where to play. Sadly in about a year when the course make a full comeback the prices will sky rocket so get a fun round in while the prices are very cheap.
drive for show
great drive out of PHX , course has great design, however it needs some serious attention for upkeep. Needs water, sand in bunkers and attention to overall details. price is right for some serious shots and fun.
The course has a great layout.
The course was great but a little wet in places. I would assume it would be great in the summer time.
this course has possibilities
greens are fair, tee boxes OK, fairways parched but pretty playable, but entire course just needs some care, not a course for shorter hitters, since too many forced carries, and not for shorter hitting women because they have to lay up too many times and waste a stroke if they can't carry the washes, making it somewhat unfair, in my opinion
New management is making major improvements. Course is better each week
This is a great value for the price! Friendly staff, nice pro shop. Would be great if there was food available at the club house. Dress warmly in winter months! Course gets very windy and chilly. Carts would be better with windshileds so it's not so cold while driving, and carts are running low on battery. Had to push it up the hills on the last 3 holes.
This course was in very poor condition. All grass was dead.
I was very disappointed in the condition of this course and the equipment. All the grass on the fairways was either dead or missing completely making your ball difficult to find in the fairway and damaging to your irons. The greens were in horrible condition making a short put to the hole a challenge at best and many were so wet that water would come up as you walked across it. Part of the way through the course the person we were golfing with, his cart gave out (wasn't charged over night) and then a few holes later ours gave out too and we had to call the golf shop and have another cart run out to us. There was no ranger keeping the pace of play up and the course took much longer than it should have due to the foursome in front of us (a lot of waiting). Save your money and don't golf this course!
beautiful layout
enjoyed playing the course, certainly woud replay and recommend it to my friends.
Rudy was the best. Great day for us.
Liked the layout and course. Could us a little attention to some bare spots in the fairways, Nice sod addition to several green side areas. Nice work and will be a great addition. Enjoyed Rudy outside services. Super employee.
so much potential here
great layout, tee boxes and fairways o.k but bunkers and greens require attention
This course is challenging with a fairly nice layout
I had a nice time here the pace of play was very nice and the staff was pretty good as well. The course condition was not to good needs to be better manicured but overall was a fairly nice experience.
a little rough but fun
My firsts thoughts are the course is a little rough, but interesting, challanging, long, but fun. The greens are the best conditioned part of the course, and are in good shape, challanging unqulations but fair, the fairways were dry burmuda grass, tee boxes a little rough but OK. the elevated ones are a lot of fun. Many have a lot of dessert before the fairway starts, which is good it keeps me focused. I am 65 and still play from the Back Black tees, I shot a 76 the first time playing here. Although I have given it a 2 Star condition rating, I give it a 5 Star for enjoyment and fun. One review mentioned something about a hole, I think He just had a real bad day, if you know what I mean, or He was from Scotsdale.
Fairways were brown but easy to hit off of. Greens are in very good shape
Course was in winter condition. No overseeding here which suits me fine. Very good value and a fun layout which challanged me to the max. Staff friendly and helpful. Clubhouse has limited offerings but clean and sufficient. Course seems to have gone through some flood damage and needs some care, but fairways are wide. I.ll go back for sure.
