Morning view down the Par-5 5th fairway. A strong drive, especially to the center-right fairway, sets you up to go for the green in two! Photo submitted by vmustang on 04/25/2021

Nice open course
Pace was good that day and ladies we played with were enjoyable. For seniors maybe a little bit long on some par fours but that’s what we were there for. Good day of golf
It's alright
Course is a links layout, but some tee boxes are right next to the previous green so felt a little worried about errant shots. The course is flat and wide, greens had a little character which was nice. The pace was unbearable on a Saturday. We waited 20 minutes past our 1:12 tee time, and the front 9 took 2.5 hours. Had to quit after 14 to make it to an event. That made the green fee lose it's value for us.
Pretty darn good right now, but where's the sand?
With the prices starting to come down and winter visitors departing, San Marcos becomes a great place to play particularly after work. We are able to get 18 holes in before dark and typically make it home for dinner on time. The pace of play this visit was great and we finished in just over 3 hours. The course was in solid shape, particularly the fairways and the greens. For a course that uses bunkers to protect greens and challenge golfers, they need to have more and better sand in them. That's probably the only shortcoming this past visit though...all in all, a good day!
Staff was amazing
The staff took care of me and got me paired up with another group. I arrived early and they accommodated me early arrival by letting me join up with a group. They went above and beyond to make it a fun day. I will definitely be returning sooner than later.
Course in pretty good shape.
Played their many times. It seems no one is paying much attention to some of the tee boxes. Many are in rough shape.
Overall pretty good course
First time playing here today. Tee boxes were decent, fairways were good and greens were nor bad at all. Where this place lacked today for me was the bunkers. I was in a few traps throughout my round and one bunker I was in had no sand in it and was complete hard pan. Another bunker I ended up in had sand in it and I got the ball out with no problem. Just put a little work into the bunkers and this is not a bad course at all.
Not Safe. Fairways too close. Lots of balls in wrong fairway
Greens great but small. Sand traps a complete disaster. Fairways generous. Pace of play slow. Practice range bad. Golfers are constantly hitting into you, not safe. Awesomeness gets a zero. Would I play again ? Not a chance !!
Bunkers need major help!
Several bunkers had little to very little sand that made for inconsistent sand shots throughout the course. Also, for a Friday afternoon the pace of play was slow with no course marshal seen all day. For afternoon players on a busy day, plan on waiting for an electric cart from finishing players. Price paid on a Friday is high for the condition of bunkers, slow play with no marshal, San Marcos needs to do much better for my money.
Nice course
Greens in great shape but many of the tee boxes need some serious work.
Round of golf
Great time. Started out slow, but gradually eased up. Did not see a Marshall other than at the start. Still made it judt under 4.o hours.
Good day golfing
Group of 5 in front of us were slow. No Marshall came and hurried them up. I have been harassed by them for slow pace even though it was caused by others.
P U R F E C T !
Price was still a little high, the course was in good condition (needs more water on tee boxes and greens). With all of the rain it gave the course a great time to use their small tine air verification tools to punch greens and tee boxes and maybe plant some seed. Greens were hard along with tee boxes. Rest od course was in pretty good shape. The outside and pro shop staff were very professional. The cart girl was outstanding and professional. Highly Recommended, will play again would like the price to drop a little.
NOT WORTH THE MONEY - Inconsistent - terrible bunkers
First time I’ve played this course in over a year. I use to play it 15-20 a year. Couldn’t believe the green fees were over $90 (including taxes)! Definitely NOT worth the money. Bunker conditions were absolutely terrible and SO inconsistent. Rocky, clay &mud mixed with sand, hard packed, fluffy JUST HORRIBLE! Green were in decent shape but played much slow. Tee boxes were also not in very good shape as well.
