San Marcos Golf Resort
About
The golf course at the San Marcos Golf Resort boasts an impressive list of past players that includes presidents and celebrities. The golf course is nestled on a property in downtown Chandler that is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Although it has a desert landscape, the course is still lush with a canal that runs through it, a lake, and plush Bermuda grass greens, the former two creating water hazards that come into play on several holes. The San Marcos Golf Resort course is challenging with each hole having at least three bunkers. The two most difficult holes on the golf course are two lengthy par 4s, the fourth and the 10th.

Morning view down the Par-5 5th fairway. A strong drive, especially to the center-right fairway, sets you up to go for the green in two! Photo submitted by vmustang on 04/25/2021

Great course for summer golf
Played San Marcos Golf Course yesterday and had a fantastic experience. The course is in excellent shape, especially considering the Arizona summer conditions. The fairways are firm, fast, and running out nicely, rewarding good shots and adding some extra distance.
The greens were outstanding—soft enough to hold approach shots while still rolling true and consistently throughout the round. The course was well-maintained from tee to green, and the overall conditioning exceeded expectations for this time of year.
If you’re looking for a fun, affordable round with great playing conditions, San Marcos is definitely worth a visit. Kudos to the grounds crew for keeping the course in such great shape during the summer months.
Disappointing surprise
Freshly punched greens with zero grass and back 9 is closed. There was no notice of either of these things when I booked on Golf Now. I get that it's summer and every course is doing maintenance but just train your staff to update this info on the app.
Great value for the money!
Fun course staff has the fairways in great condition for summer golf and with the price you really can’t beat it. Excited to see the new sim bays finished.
Fun course
The course is in very good shape. There are some bare spots here and there but nothing that affects the playing conditions if you stay on the fairways. The greens are in great shape and roll very true.
All of the greens are on the smaller side and are well guarded with sand traps. I love the open lay out which allows for players to get back on track from wayward shots, combined with the small greens. Overall it is a fair challenge with the right amount of mercy for duffers like me.
Good morning
Tee off 7:44 AM. Perfect weather. Course in good shape. A good round.
Good course for all skill levels
Great place to get a fun round of golf in. It good for beginners to skilled players. Staff is friendly. This is my go to course when I want to get a round in to work on my game.
Fun course
Has great staff and fun/challenging layout. Course was on great shape and pace of play was surprisingly quick.
Great course
Course tee boxes and greens were in great shape. Bunkers could be a little softer. Definitely look at the distance to water crossings before teeing off. I was fortunate to play with a friend who is a regular at the course. Friendly staff and budget friendly.
Course is in good condition
Typical AZ golf / a few dry spots on the fairways but generally in good shape / the starter needs to take a chill pill / first, he came up to us to push our tee time up 15 minutes - we were still waiting on our 4th to arrive / then, after a 1 hour and 45 minute front nine, he told us "your time is good but you need to catch up to the group in front of you" - we teed off behind a 2some who had a 15 minute gap in front of them...we were a 4some, so naturally they played faster than us. Relax dude!! Finished under 4 hours and did not hold up the 3some behind us.
Very Skinny Fairways
Very Skinny Fairways which causes you to have to wait for others to come get their balls when hitting from a different hole. Multiple times. Ranger not monitoring pace of play. Play so slow ended up leaving after 13th hole.
San Marcos
Always liked this course, traditional layout and well kept. Disappointed in shape of bunkers, lack of sand more like dirt with some dirtclods. All in all will return again.
