Morning view down the Par-5 5th fairway. A strong drive, especially to the center-right fairway, sets you up to go for the green in two! Photo submitted by vmustang on 04/25/2021

Good time!
My partner and I had a good time. Staff was great including restaurant.
No dring range. Flat course but decent shape. I have played it 3 times.
It's an OK course for the money.
However, be ready for very hard, very small greens with dirt (not sand traps on either side. Also be ready for holes #4 and #5. From the blue tees they are both 464 yards long. Hole #4 has significantly more tree hazards than hole # 5 and hole #4 is the #1 handicap hole on the course... yet in the courses wisdom #4 is a par 4 and #5 is a par 5.
This is an old course with a lot of heritage. First course to have grass greens in Arizona. The design is older and traditional but remains challenging with relatively small greens which are usually well protected with bunkers. Missing left or right is challenging and it is almost always best to miss short. The greens were in good shape the rest of the course is fair given the pricing. The staff are friendly and the Pro was welcoming and helpful. Driving range is basic.
San Marcos Cancelled my Tee Time
San Marcos Golf Course cancelled my tee time 15 minutes before we started our round. They called me and said sorry we don’t have a tee time for you. I booked my tee time through golf now. San Marcos said you have to go through them to get your refund. Absolutely no help to me at all. San Marcos was not apologetic and didn’t care at all. They said it’s Golf Now’s problem. Gentleman was Very rude on the phone.
I will never be back!!!!
Sadly I live less than 4 miles away from this course and I will never play it again. This was the worst round of my life. Why? Pace of play and course condition!!! I don’t mind a 5 hour round if I’m playing on a well manicured course. This is the time of year we pay good money because of good weather and well manicured courses. The weather was the only thumbs up I have from my round. With the course being in as bad of condition it is they should be spacing tee times out 20 minutes not the 8 they are greedily using! I honestly will never book another tee time at this course unless I receive a personal email, letter or call guaranteeing they have improved the pace of play and course conditions. There are too many better courses for less money available.
Customer service
I didn’t get to play this course. I booked my tee time through GolfNow with confirmation. There was some kind of mistake between golf now and San Marcos and my tt was not booked for enough players. Called the pro shop then talked with the general manager. Both the pro shop and general had very little customer service. I informed them of the incorrect booking and was informed that the spot had already been filled with another tee time. I explained to him that I have a confirmation through golf now but he would not honor it. He then explained that my issue was with golf now and had nothing to do with San Marcos. My issue is when San Marcos told me it’s not their fault golf now made a mistake you need to take it up with them. If San Marcos hires third party companies to work for them in online booking or advertising they should be held account for the mistakes made by the company they are employing. The course looks nice but I will never golf their because of my bad interactions with the staff.
Good Value here
Starter, beverage cart, and pro shop staff all excellent .
Neat old school course
It’s a neat old school course. Not in the best of shape, but reasonably priced and fun with friends to knock them around
Ok track
Second time playing here, seems to be a slower paced round as you have a lot of hackers around. Balls constantly flying into your fairway. Greens are in great shape. Quick, smooth and true.
Nice course
The course layout and scenery is beautiful especially the back nine. Conditions were great and the greens rolled true. I would definitely play it again if I’m in the area.
Tee boxes were very poor. on course bathrooms were very poor.
A regular in my golf rotation
3rd time playing San Marcos and it remains one of the most consistent courses in the Valley across the board. Low handicappers might get bored with the layout but still challenging enough to work on your game and gave fun. Staff is great across the board and the bar area is quaint and food is good; try the fish tacos. Definitely a keeper
