Morning view down the Par-5 5th fairway. A strong drive, especially to the center-right fairway, sets you up to go for the green in two! Photo submitted by vmustang on 04/25/2021

Slow Play, Overpriced, Rough Shape
5 hour + round. We were stuck behind a large party on an early tee time. No Marshall. Overgrown tee boxes, no sand in bunkers, slow greens, no clear fairway to rough definition. Errant tee shots from other golfers on every hole. This place is significantly overpriced.
Staff was rude
We played this course for the first time on a Saturday. The course itself is pretty nice, with wide fairways and nice putting greens. But the staff was bad. My grand daughter was playing with us for her first time so in order to keep up with pace of play, we frequently had her pick up her ball and drop next to one of ours. We also let two groups play through. The course martial approaches us, and asks us to keep up the pace. We explained that this was my grand daughter’s first time, and that was why we had let two groups play through. He continued to follow and harass us, even though we kept up with and frequently had to wait for the group ahead of us . It was very annoying as the course was clearly over booked. Also we saw the refreshment cart several times, but could NOT get the girl to drive our way though we tried to wave her down several times. Mind you it was already 100 degrees at 7:00 am! Talk about thirst! I won’t return here. I wanted to ask for my money back at the turn!
Great Day at the old course
Staff was superb! Friendly and helpful. My game was not the best but the course was more than worth it. Will play here whenever I can!
Fair to Middling Course Conditions
Course is in okay shape, but not great. Seems like there should be a minimum acceptable condition for courses in this price range and this one is falling just short. We’ve seen better quality from this place before and I’m sure we will again. They’re just going through a tough spell at the moment, I guess.
Closed the snack shop at 2 pm with numerous players on the course. Water coolers empty on a 112 degree day, won’t be back to play here.
Extremely slow and very crowded.
Played here for the first time and pay a play was extremely slow. It took us over five hours to make it around the course. Also, the layout is very condensed and we had balls flying into our fairway several different times. Even at one point I was on the Teebox getting ready to tee off at a ball, rolled up and hit my feet from another fairway.
no warning no head up
I have played this course many, many times over the years-and the course is always in great playing condition. However, there were no warning or heads up that they were aerating fairways and some greens. The first two holes were next to impossible to play. With that being said: Staffs and faculty where great.
Good Value
San Marcos is an older traditional style course with many large shade trees lining each fairway. It’s a great layout and a good test. I just happen to catch it on a weekend when they were core aerifying and sanding the greens. For $40 bucks it was worthwhile and I would go back
Interesting Course
First time playing this course. Enjoyed it immensely. Open fairways with various challenges.
This is a great course hidden away in downtown Chandler.
Don’t forget to check out Capone’s Corner for a quick drink or snack. It’s right on the course.
Good Value
Both Tees & Greens were core aerified and top dressed with sand but for $40 it’s a good value.
Course maintenance is needed
Despite the courses' historic significance to the state, this track needs a major overhaul or they could just raise it and build parking lots or condos. It was Sunday and the pace was slow, but no marshal on had to try and keep play moving. Every trash bin on the course was filled to the brim. The greens had been recently aeriated and it is never fun to play on sand filled waffle irons. All the bunkers need work, either real sand in them or in one case fix the water situation so it is not filled to make another water hazard.
