Reviews
Mosquitos
Excellent job dealing with the mosquitos, hardly saw one today, thanks!
Every Day Is Better
The greens are rolling smooth now. Entire course is great for this time of year!
Southern Dunes at Ak Chin
Course was in great shape. Back nine had to wait on every hole for up to 10 minutes for the group in front of us. Extremely slow players, but the Marshall apologized but said he was unable to tell them to pick it up because they were ahead of pace. I can't wait to golf the southern dunes again
A gem in Maricopa
Many locals will hate this review but this course is a winner. They value pace of play so they space tee times 8 minutes apart. This can be good and bad. If you are looking for the country club leaisurely smoke a cigar on the tee box pace, don’t come here. If you like a 4 hour round where Marshall’s actually visit you and let you know what is happening, come on down. The Marshall offered us a wet towel for our neck because it was warm! Great track. Lots of obstacles and challenges, but nothing ridiculous, where you leave scratching your head as to why they placed something. 2 carts running around and we saw them 4 times on our round. We ate at the grill. Trade secret, get the short rib grilled cheese, not healthy but yummy. Oh yeah the pro shop had great selection of gear.
Overall a great round and great place to golf. A+++
Nice day on a tough track.
Course as usual was in great shape. Somewhat penalizing if you miss the fairway, but all in all a good day. Only draw back was some slow play of the groups in front of us. We'll be back!
Phenomenal Condition!
Great track. Can be tough, but it's very fair. Course was in perfect condition other than a couple bunkers. Tee boxes, fairways, rough, and greens were in perfect condition.
Excellent Course - worth the drive
This is an excellent and well run course. Probably the best in the “southern” phoenix area. It’s about a 35 minute drive from chandler, and well worth it. Due to remote location its cheaper than the courses closer to town, like Wildhorse Pass and at least as good.
There are a lot of bunkers, so approach shots must be accurate (mine were not - i must have hit 10 green side bunkers).
Greens had been punch sometime before i played, and had not completely recovered. They were fast enough, but not as fast as the people who play there a lot thought they usually were.
Plus they have iced bottled water every three holes. Drink it. I didnt drink enough and ran out of gas on 18.
Fantastic Shape!!!
Very great day! Our group was a little slow but the course Marshall was very good about encouraging our playing partners to speed it up. Played in 4 hours. Course is playing really well for this time of year. Greens were punched 7 days ago but will likely be perfect in 3 days.
Great Course; Good time
Great course especially if you like sand. Some bunkers have right amount of sand others not so much.
A wonderful course with a great deal of challenge
This course can be as difficult or as less difficult as you want. FOr most standard golfers, they go for Blue tees and leave the back tees for the single handicappers or extremely long players. I suggest you swallow your pride, bury your ego, and keep your round fun yet still challenging by playing the shorter tees. There is plenty of challenge to be had from the white tees or shorter and you will find much less frustration.
Mosquitos were terrible,, it really took away from the experience... the bag guys said people were quitting but we toughed it out
Great Track
Bring your shovel to this beautiful Troon managed course.. Great summer conditions.. Greens in great shape…
Great value
Had a noon Tee time and had a single join myself and a buddy. Not busy at all. Paid $38 through golf now. Very hot and humid day. Plenty of water on the course and we seen the cart girl a few times. Course was in good shape. Layout is great. We played at 6500 yard blue tees. Tee boxes fairways and greens all in good shape. Bunkers were a little crusty from the morning light rain. . Off the fairways is desert and brush. Not very attractive. Can’t wait to play it again. One of the better course in Phoenix area.
Great Track!!
Course was us impressive condition even though the heat bnb is a challenge. Layout is challenging but fair. Worth the drive to day the least.
Pace of play killed the round
The greens had been recently punched. There was no notification of this before booking the round. Drove over an hour to get here and was not pleased about not knowing this ahead of time. Would probably have made a different selection.
The pace was like a death march. It took over 3 hours to play the back 9. At this pace we could not enjoy the round at all. At 115° it felt more like a death march than a golf round. The ranger came around and told us that it was playing slow in front of us. No kidding, genius. We figured that out on our own. How about keeping the pace moving.
Here is a suggestion for the starters. Instead of telling us that there is 160 sand traps, tell the players which tee would best suit their game. If you are a high handicapper use "X" tees, Mid level use "Y" etcetera. If I had to guess why it was so slow I'd say it was that far too many players were playing from the wrong tees and ruining the day for every one behind them.
FYI. They are punching the fairways next week. I doubt there will be any notice of this. You have been forewarned.
