Great day at Eagle Mountain! Photo submitted by uOQDZ5699OQ on 09/26/2012
One of my favorites
One of my favorite courses in PHX area, however, currently in brutal condition due to some kind of plight that has significantly impacted course conditions. Very little, if any, grass on the greens and fairway grass patchy at best and hard as a rock. Putting close to impossible, similar to putting on the cart path. Played here in early March and frankly, course in much worse condition than it was 7 weeks ago. Still some of the best views in the area! Unfortunately, I won’t be back for a while. Disappointing, can only hope Troon will get this one back on the right track.
Greens Oh Boy
I come the Phoenix area 3-4 times a year to golf. I have heard great things about Eagle Mountain and was really looking for to it. The greens were in terrible shape. The worst I’ve played during my stay down here. The course should offer a reduced rate with greens this poor. The Couple I played with promised me the greens were not this bad in February. And they were shocked by how bad they were. Hopefully the staff gets it right.
Vacationing
We loved the layout of the course and the views are great. Unfortunately the greens were in terrible shape, almost no grass on them so putting was frustrating to say the least. The last few holes were not as bad but still not good. We had lunch after out on the patio and it was delicious. I'm sure we will be back, but will make sure conditions are worth the price before booking.
Unbelievably Horrible!
As a proud 25yr AZ resident, I had always taken my Midwestern visitors to EMGC to give them that “Wow!” desert\mountain golf experience. This time around, I was completely embarrassed by this course and the condition it is in. The course superintendent should be fired for allowing the course to get this bad. Let’s start with the greens… Actually, there are no greens, just mostly mounds of dirt that have been spray painted green. I am not kidding... The staff called it “Makeup”. This should have been brought to our attention when checking in and some form of reduced fee applied. However, the exact opposite happened, each player was charged an extra $5 over golf now rate for what they called a “water” fee. This water fee supposedly covered the cost to put an Igloo cooler on every other hole by the tee box. We teed off mid-afternoon and when I went to get my $5 drink of water around 5pm, it was warm from sitting out there all day. Finally, we have the bunkers which were mostly devoid of sand. (Or the sand was packed down so hard). One needed a pick axe to get under the ball. I am going to skip the burned out fairway conditions and that the sprinklers were turned on while we were still on 17 fairway. (Making the dirt areas that used to be greens inaccessible on last two holes). I know, very harsh review, but this normally solid 4 star course is currently suffering on all points and an embarrassment to Arizona Golf. Stay away til the fall.
Eagle Mtn
I liked the course layout and views but the greens were sparse and appeared to be painted green to dry to hide the dry and bare spots. The greens and fairways indicated the course is short on water.
Dirt greens
BEWARE- this course has a problem with the greens. Dead grass, patchy, areas, some greens have you putting on dirt with what lookslike a green paint mix. The course should alert people playing that the layout is beautiful, scenary amazing (on some holes) but the bunkers have no sand and the greens minimal grass and you putt on dirt.
Great course...BUT...
If I'm going to pay that kind of money, I would expect at least the greens to be in better condition. Loved the course, but I was disappointed in that area. Would I go back? Absolutely! Staff/Starter/Clubhouse ppl, all great.
Views were amazing, fairways forgiving, and although bunkers were more "gravel-ly" (is that a word?), then I expected, it's my own fault for going in there...;)
Gray value compared to surrounding courses
Great views and really interesting layout. Lots of elevation changes. Greens are super quick but fair. Would play here again for sure.
Not Good
The problem with this course when I played was: Apparently they had some sort of fungal disease (I was told by the couple we were playing with who are residents of the community) of the greens for the past month. The grass was in such bad shape that they were sprayed with a dark green color of not sure what. Not only were they awful to putt on, you could not distinguish them from the fairway and surrounding area. I was not told this when I made a tee time or even at the golf shop when I went to pay. The second thing I had issue with was on some of the holes, carts were not allowed on the fairway. This course is extremely hilly and I had to do some serious hiking. With a bad knee, this was not good for me. I did like the layout and difficulty of the course and it would have been ok if I were allowed to drive the cart to my ball. However, the greens were unacceptable! Especially for the cost of the round which was $135 (with tax) per person. Such a beautiful course like that had such terrible greens. They should have completely dug up the greens and resodded. Or at the very least, give a major discount on the green fees, as well as let you know the situation at the time you make your reservation.
Challenging course. Great staff
Great course. Very challenging and great views. Staff is fantastic. Rangers are very friendly and always making sure the pace of play is moving.
Poor Condition
The Fairways were dry and the greens were in poor condition. I like the layout.
I heard they stopped watering to transitioning into the Burmuda.
Great course
Interesting layout, very forgiving until you hit the greens. famous last words, where is the valley?
What happened?
Played a few years ago and loved course. Now won't be back. I thought this was a premier course in the valley but not now, Greens and fairways had brown and dry spots everywhere. Greens were hard as concrete with no check even with full wedges. Sand traps only had a top layer of sand in the bottom and then hardpan underneath. Was not even worth the twilight rate.
Concrete greens, scorched fairways
This course has potential but has not been well maintained. Course is scorched, greens were like putting on concrete. Good layout, nice clubhouse. Do not recommend for the price with so many other nice courses in the area.
Loved the course lay out.
The course played like I was a member here getting good bounces back to the fairway. I am a 15 handicap and played well here. My wife is a 35 handicap and she enjoyed the course the way it played. We will definitely play the course over and ever again.
User Friendly
Really enjoyed the course. Scenic and very nice layout. Holes #10 and #18 really standout. Fairways generous with consistent mounding adjacent to the fairways to help keep you in play. Greens rolled great-fast and sometimes difficult to read due to the valley. Would love to come back.
