Great course
Course is in great shape except the greens! Love this place regardless.
As always the course was in good shape. Need to turn the bunkers over. Sand is to compact. Thx
Vacation golf
We played this course during a mini vacation to Tucson during the busiest time of the year (March). Pace was good and the courses were beautiful and in amazing shape. Seeing a lot of wildlife was a bonus. We would definitely love to play at Starr Pass again.
One of the best courses in Tucson for wildlife and beautiful Vistas.
Very nice Tucson area golf course. Great vistas and plenty of wildlife. The greens were very fast but playing later in day they were fairly bumpy due to earlier groups not repairing pitch marks.
The greens were extremely fast and hard. Any short iron shots would not hold green and would release over the green. I believe they actually dye the greens with emerald green dye as the grass is a little thin on greens. The fairways are overseeded and played very fast as well. The dormant grass off fairways was hard pan and balls errant tee shots would roll off into desert fairly quickly.
During our afternoon round we saw roadrunners, bunnies and a group of about 12 wild pigs near the green in the desert on hole 12.
One thing about layout is the routing from at the turn from 9 green to 10 tee box you are about a mile away from clubhouse so make sure to bring your own snacks and Gatorade in your golf bag. There are a few rest rooms and porta potties on course if you need them.
There are some changes in elevation and many holes have beautiful vistas looking towards downtown Tucson.
We also saw several Military fighter jets on their way to do maneuvers and probably saw and heard the jets on more than half the holes, very cool if you enjoy seeing that type of thing.
Fun golf course, if you can get a hot deal time
It’s a very good value for the nicely manicured desert course. Plenty of saguaro.and prickly pear cactus along with other desert plants .
Very enjoyable round we got around in 3:30 minutes as a threesome so pace of play was very good for us.
Springtime Golf in AZ
Course conditions were good for this time of year. The fairways were green and very playable. The greens were e receptive and rolled nicely. The rough was dormant but lush enough to allow recovery shot without too much trouble.
Staff, restaurant, and practice facilities were above average. Bring your friends!
Fabulous course. Challenging but fair.
Thoroughly enjoyed our round @ Star Pass. Course was in great shape. Greens firm & fast. A few long carries over waste areas. Thankfully we got paired up with a friendly coupe who play regularly and they were very helpful. Will definitely book again when we return.
Great Course
Great conditions; helpful staff! I stayed at the suites here for 2 1/2 days. I like to walk so the Coyote course was perfect. Champion course is a tough layout with great views! Played and practiced in great weather and excellent atmosphere. Highly recommend!
Starr Pass for old people
The course is excellent. The pro shop staff and starter were very friendly and helpful. The course is very challenging for handicaps above 10, meaning golfers who shoot greater than 84 or so. There are numerous desert waste areas at the sides of all holes and sometimes across the hole. Carries of greater than 120 yards are necessary. There are a lot of elevation changes. This means an errand shot is penalized severely, often resulting in a lost golf ball.
I recommend playing tees that are more forward than you might think of playing based on yardage. If you insist on playing the yardage from your home course and you average 84 or greater, bring a LOT of golf balls. It is quite possible to lose 12 or more.
Challenging for high HCs
Beautiful location, dozens of birds and course in great shape. Was fun but so many shots to green were just unforgiving in the extreme. I could get to fairway from tee well enough with forced carries. But being a little short, long, left or right with irons (and I'm guaranteed to be one of those) meant lost balls, impossible slopes, deep bunkers, or blind shots. Wish it had more safe misses. Desert golf, I know.
Beautiful Course
Love this course. Only complaint is that the greens were in poor shape. Looked like hole plugs had not “healed” in months.
We had a very nice time playing this beautiful course that is in great condition.
