Good golfing always
The layout, course conditions and staff pretty amazing folks here southern Tucson.
July Afternoon at Starr Pass
Played Gambler/Pioneer nines on a late afternoon weekday round. Weather was hot followed by cloudy cooler conditions. Both nines have come out of summer transition nicely. Fairways and aprons are nice, with just a few remaining thin areas. Greens rolled well but were very firm, and only held the most well struck shots. The staff at Starr Pass is what makes this course a must play. They are fantastic.
Impressed first time experience
It was my birthday and buddy bought me a round of golf here. I looked up online and it looked decent but in person it’s on another level. Middle of July and the course is green and well maintained. Staff were younger men but all friendly and respectful. The course it’s self was narrow, a tough course for a beginner like myself but a great challenge to slow down and focus. The pace was smooth, no one behind us or in front of us that made us feel rushed. We had a group of 3 and went out at 1020am. They have 27 holes and after the 18 they offered a complimentary 9. First 9 was the Gambler and the back 9 was Pioneer. We did the complimentary 9 but only Gambler was available at that time. So I’m not sure what the other 9 is called or what it looks like. On Gambler and Pioneer we saw our fair share of wildlife to include, a mother coyotes and her 2 cubs, quail and their little chicks as well, a deer near the tee box, and a few bunny rabbits. Overall, I was impressed with the whole outting. Complimentary range was well. Golf cart was a top line golf cart, with customs seats and a large screen for navigation and course layout. My buddy paid $60 total per player, which is a fair price for a course this beautiful and well ran. Great Job, Starr Pass.

Great round
Nice course, staff working on tee boxes but were very respectful of the golfers
My favorite course in Tucson
The course was in fantastic condition, especially for late June . It is challenging but fair layout. The staff and amenities were excellent. Driving range , bottled water on ice and even a towel were included. I will be back before long. I highly recommend giving it a try.
Awesome course
Not only is the layout awesome. They keep it in great shape in the summer. Love it!
A good challenge
One of my "go to" courses in the Tucson area. It is a course that is challenging in a good way. A desert course that is a cut above just target golf. I figure on losing a couple of golf balls during each round. Plus, I don't recommend hunting for them in the unforgiving desert terrain.
The course is maintained in good shape even in the heat of the summer. There are jugs of water filled each morning with ice water. The carts have a small cooler with a couple of small bottles of water.
Recommended....
Great looking corse
Technical corse but lots of fun, terrain change makes every hole really unique !
Starr Pass Palmer/ Gambler
The course is an excellent condition and we played the Palmer course first and the Gambler course second. Both nine whole courses are very difficult. However, the gambler has three holes that are almost impossible for amatuer golfers to score well. Extremely narrow and undulating fairways, creating target golf. Fun to play nontheless!! You would have to play this course a few times in order to learn where to hit the ball but highly recommend it if you want to test your target golf skills.
Played all 3 nines
They just changed the names of all the different nines. Started on Palmer which was pretty much an executive par 34. Target golf, crowned greens. Really beautiful. Then the Gambler.. thought this nine was more "gimmicky" in terms of how you could get jumps from hitting the middle of the fairway and never playing there before very challenging approach shots, etc into elevated thin, crowned greens. The uphill par 5 has a longer layup area I was unaware of on the GPS unless you drive up to see it. The Pioneer was a more traditional championship players course where what you see is what you get besides one hole. Overall, it was a fun golf course in great condition but feel that even if you know it better you will get unfair bounces out of your control. Reminds me of Wolf Creek in Mesquite in that sense.. it's a fun play but not really a fair test.. luck comes into play way to much. I am a 6 handicap. Would play again because of the scenery but not to test my scoring, etc. Overall I would recommend but wouldn't want to play there all the time even if I had deep pockets...
Greens not holding shots!
I love this course and consider it my home course as I live about five minutes from the property. Today was my first time playing the course since they installed the new greens.
They are way too firm. I was able to hit about 11 greens today and only 3 held. Putting was near impossible because of lack of consistency. They need a lot of work. That being said the fringes were amazing.
It’s frustrating when you pay a premium price, hit the ball well all day, and aren’t rewarded for it because of conditions.
