Carlton Oaks has a long history of tournament golf. Curtis Strange won the 1974 NCAA Championships on the course before Perry Dye redesigned the layout and stretched it to 7,400 yards in the 1980s. The Carlton Oaks Lodge, Ascend Hotel Collection, offers 51 modernized, Asian-inspired rooms just steps from the clubhouse, its Oaks Bar & Grill and the outdoor pool and jacuzzi.Facts

fun course
We had a great time. staff was great. Water holes are challenging.

Challenging Course, decent value, driving range needs work
I love the layout of this course, extremely challenging. Staff is cool. Fairways are tricky always a few choices, risk and reward is present on several holes, golf chess. Being east county course ok conditions, but could use some work all around. The main gripe for me is the driving range, the mats are horrible looks like they have been cooked in the sun for 10 years, they leave plastic stuff on my clubs, scratches all over my new wedge.

A mixed bag
The course layout and design is one of the most unique and challenging you will find in San Diego. The condition of the course however is pretty bad. The tee boxes have super long grass, so much that there is heavy turf interaction with teed up driver. The fairways have sparse grass and the up keep and removal of leaves etc is nonexistent. The driving range is the worst I’ve ever seen mats are very old and it looks like you are hitting in to a junkyard. The greens were in good shape and the green layouts are challenging. Pace of play was bad on my visit there was no starter to properly space groups out.

Decent Value
decent value for the price. Great course layout however even after last weeks rainstorm the course was pretty burnt out and not in good condition.

Great value for the dollar
This was my 1st time playing Carlton Oaks. There are enough tee positions to meet your level of player. I found the fairways a little sparse grass-wise but definitely playable.
The greens rolled nicely even with being aerated in the past month. There is a lot of fall tree damage around the course to be removed but it didn't hinder play.
Overall a course I would play again and well worth the price of the round!

Conditions are a mess.
First and last time playing here. Poorly maintained and managed. Not worth it.
