Carlton Oaks has a long history of tournament golf. Curtis Strange won the 1974 NCAA Championships on the course before Perry Dye redesigned the layout and stretched it to 7,400 yards in the 1980s. The Carlton Oaks Lodge, Ascend Hotel Collection, offers 51 modernized, Asian-inspired rooms just steps from the clubhouse, its Oaks Bar & Grill and the outdoor pool and jacuzzi.Facts

Rip Off
This course is in terrible shape. With the exception of some of the greens, the entire course is basically patches of dirt with some grass. The staff couldn't care less about anything. When we got to the first tee, the pro shop had put 8 people at the same tee time. No starter or anyone else around to help. The pace of play was unbelievable slow and there was not a marshal in sight. The utter indifference of the staff is really astounding.
This course is at most worth $30 for a round, but get ready to pay double or triple that.
Carlton Oaks
This Pete Dye Jr. rework from the late 1980's is a fabulous layout and deserves an enormous amount of attention which is consistently NOT given. I have played this course numerous times over the past 6 years and the conditions on the course seem to get worse with each passing season.
The greens are mostly good but the traps are pathetic, the waste areas not groomed, landscaping debris in piles around the course, dirt paths are evident on the sides of many holes, and the tees not kept up like they could be. All in all, it is simply sad that this course doesn't seem to get the water or the care that would measure up to the design. I will not be playing ere again despite the favorable rates and nice personnel until a heck of a lot more attention is paid to the course condition.

Golf course condition and pace
The condition of the golf course was at best poor, especially the fairways. The pace was deplorable. We had 2 groups waiting on each Hole on the back. Not sure why they had a Marshall, he did nothing.

Worst COURSE EVER
$10 green fee would be too much. Worst course ever, very poor course conditions and people playing it. Avoid it at all costs. Full of crackheads playing in Jeans. Apocalyptic.

Disappointing
I have spent thousands of dollars here alone and have brought several people out here to play over the years,. I always looked past the very mediocre but overpriced course, however with the amount of disrespect I was treated with by the staff/owners last time I played here, I no longer will golf at Carlton oaks. I also informed all my golfing buddies never to play here again. Don’t waste your money here you will have a severely underwhelming experience.
Won’t be back
Course grass was in poor condition. Looks like they have let it go. Sand traps were hard mud. Around the greens was deep grass that needed mowing. Greens were in variable condition and different speeds were the result.

Course Staff Lacks Logic
Course wouldn’t let us play a 4v4 scramble on the same hole for no apparent logical reason. No one was behind us, so we weren’t holding anyone up. We said we’d split up if anyone got close to us. Pro Shop still said no for the excellent reason of “because I can.” I’ve personally spent probably over $1,000 at this course, but neither me nor my friends will be coming back. Solid business tactics Carlton.

Good Track but....
Carlton Oaks is a good layout but the fairways are mostly weeds. The greens were decent but players don't fix their divots so lots of holes in them. A cash infusion could make it a really nice course. They do have a good bar.

Late arrival
I arrived late but the starter held up the group to allow us to fit into our designated time slot. It made for a pleasant day. Fairways need a bit more grass but the greens were great. Course is hard !

No Regrets
This is an enjoyable track. #12 beautiful tough par 3 #6 hit it as right as you can or loose the ball in hazard on right. A really good test for better than average golfer

Challenging course but condition not up to par
Course was green but in rough condition with bare patches & some bunkers turned into concrete by recent heavy rains. Rains also limited cart use and shut down the range. Pace was good and fees were reasonable. Carts were in poor condition and added to the sense that the course has not been receiving much attention of late. We had not played here for several years and were disappointed by its current state. Will not rush back.

Great layout…ready for punching
Layout is great, but conditions are a little rough around the edges. Seems like nobody fixes their hallmarks on the greens, which really isn’t the courses fault. Still, a very enjoyable round.
