Hole #12 I believe. Photo submitted by Trailerteri on 04/03/2013
Good pace. Great shape
Greens not too mysterious. Great pace, never waited. Plenty of water and ice on course. Not overly narrow.
I was disappointed that there was no sand to warm up in.
Excellent Facility; Disappointing Pace
The course is challenging and fun; facilities and staff are top notch. The only critique I have is due to the pace of play. I booked a 6:30 tee time, for $199, with the hopes of playing a timely round as the first group off. Unbeknownst to me, the staff placed two foursomes of a Ladies’ Tournament ahead of us. After flying through the first 11 holes, we spent the next 2 hours waiting on every shot for the last 7 holes. Had I been informed of this plan by the staff, I would’ve chosen not to golf today.
Otherwise, everything about the Indian Wells Golf Resort courses is aces; highly recommend.
Will be back!
Great course, super friendly staff, surprised by water features a couple times when we forgot to check GPS, that was interesting. Was disappointed there was no breakfast available in restaurant until 11am, just a food vendor truck with minimal menu. Points off for that but everything else was great! Starter Frank was a character!!
First and last.
This is a never again..er Attractive course but for the dollar I’m paying here I would expect to see a course Marshall pushing people along. Like the JW Marriott this course is always over booked with no marshals most teetimes take 4 1/2 to 5 hours to play. typical for resorts. Nice looking but a lot to be desired.
Communication
I was surprised to learn when I arrived at the course that it was still not completely ready from the overseed. Cart path only basically for that price is not a good value. Mats on the range are worn out as are the range balls.
Played JW Marriott before Indian wells and will not be back to Marriott. No comparison to Wells
Had a great time . In our group was general manager Sven , he was all so knowledgeable on where to play your shots . He was able to help me many times on adjustments to my swing ! Would recommend playing this course to everyone.
Nice course -
The good:
- nice course
- good conditions
- friendly staff
- quick pace
The bad:
- We had the first tee time and 3 of the first 4 holes were directly into the sun. I think architects should take direction into account and not start headed east nor finish heading west, just to avoid the blinding sun for the early starters and later finishers.
- There are 3 or 4 holes with hazards that are not visible from where i was hitting the ball, so pay close attention to the GPS.
- Finally, to me it is way overpriced. If your an Indian wells resident you get a break, but, as a visitor, for a early fall tee time i felt it was more expensive than warranted.
Pace of play horrible
Played at 7:50am. Waited on every shot from our approach on the first hole to the approach on 18. Called pro shop twice and they said they’d send someone….no Marshall ever sent. Easy fix as there was a 4some 3 groups in front with easily 5-6 hole gap in front of them. Ruined the experience for everyone around us.
Players
Rode the Orange Tees (6538/71.6/130) with Wendy, Lauren and Marvin in slightly less than 5H mid morning in the GK Plays. Close to 110, clear and fairly calm. Not humid like it has been, so it was more managemable than it sounds with plenty of liquids. Thanks to Johnny for setting this up, Linksoule and Golf Moose as sponsoring many nice items and IW for having us out!
Really like this John Fought design that features 7 sets of well spaced tees. Par 72 (37-35). The course is a good mixture of flat and rolling hills. Challenging layout featuring many holes with fairways that are either narrow in the landing area or require turning the ball to get in prime positions.
Tees were lush and nicely maintained with few divots.
Fairways were lush and very nice to play from.
Rough close to greens, just off fairways and around tees is mowed down, not overly penal and lush. Bermuda rough farther off fairways has good coverage but is not what I would call lush.
Sand traps were well maintained with fine sand.
Bermuda greens were smooth and putted medium fast speed. Firm with few ball marks. Large challenging green complexes, the greens feature many subtle undulations with few straight putts.
The course conditions were excellent overall. I appreciate this layout more with each round played here. It would be challenging to walk since there are numerous tees 100+ yards from the last green. Customer service is always excellent here. And that goes for every single person encountered, they could run a climic on how to provide excellent customer service @ IW. Plenty of ice/water stations on the course. Nice GPS on the carts. Cart person came around numerous times. Complementary range balls on an all grass range is a plus. Highly recommended.
Not bad for the temperature.
Course was in good condition for the time of year. Some of the better greens played on. Rate of $85 was a bit steep considering the heat and rates at other resort courses in similar condition.
Beverage service was great but the price on the Bloody Mary was too much.
Great Layout!
Loved the course. Great layout, makes you think. Few blind shots too. Very friendly staff. Water and ice every 3 holes!
Great Course and Great Value
Played at 6:51 on a Thursday morning as a single and was paired up with another. Pace of play was a tad slow with two foursomes in front but finished in 4:25. Course in good shape but greens a little bumpy from being punched three weeks ago.
Water stations with filtered ice and water every three holes, but one was out of service.
Will paly again when out in the desert.
Amazing course
Everything about this place was amazing. Friendly staff, insanely well kept course, great pace of play and attention by the marshals.
Good Summer Conditions
This course is in good condition for the summer. The greens were a little slower as they can not be cut low in the extreme heat. The pace was a little slow however the course ambassador's were around quite often and there is ice and water stations every 3 holes.
We persuaded them to give us towels which are necessary for cooling down, a great benefit.
Only complaint i had was the beer cart was promoting a local beer which i tried but could not finish it and had to pour it out.
