Playable Course
Nice course in great condition. A straight forward layout challenges you with narrow fairways and smallish greens protected by numerous bunkers. No driving range is a drawback.
Dell Monty
Fun course to play with fast greens and heavy rough
Classic Layout
Good course. The price tag is a little excessive in my opinion, but the course is full so I guess they know what they are doing. I will probably only play if I can find more hot deals. A classic layout, which is respectful in its own way but nothing too exciting in front of you. The fairway bunkers are very penal. Greens are small and quick. some with severe slopes.
Great course! Will definitely be back.
Loved this course, it was in great condition and every employee was very friendly and informative.
Del Monte Review
Great conditions, nice layout, pace of play great. Staff excellent customer service!
One of the better values in golf around the Monterey peninsula.
contemptuous treatment from clubhouse staff
Booked a 4pm tee time on golfnow for 18 holes knowing we wouldn't finish the full 18. At check in the clubhouse informed me that carts had to be returned by 6:10 because "most people know that the sun goes down early in October so they don't book late tee times". 6:10 is 27 minutes before sunset and 53 minutes before last light. He also said it's "a safety issue". I realize that cart attendants want to go home for the night, and I respect their work and always tip them accordingly, but it's not really great having the clubhouse guy rationalize why "I should have known" that my round would be cut short by an a full hour because of Del Monte's policy when I booked it online. At least have the courtesy to say "yeah, this isn't my policy, I can talk to management to get golfnow to inform people of our policy at the time of booking" instead of saying most people know that the sun sets early in October.
Well kept, open course, poor pace
My first time here but others in my group had been before. Tee boxes, greens, and sand are very well kept. Fairway is good in most spots, but if you’re off fairway you’re in bumpy, dirty, potted space. Walking was flat but - again - the course is really potted and dirty on most holes if you’re off the fairway even just a little.
We played in 4.5hrs, 10am on a Sunday. Seems slow to me, as we played right on the tails of the group ahead of us having to wait for them at every tee box. Ahead of them was an entire par-5-worth of openness. We saw a Marshall on hole 3 and he said he’d look, but we didn’t see him again until the 13th hole so I stopped him again. He said “they are playing on pace”, I pointed out the 500 yards of open space ahead of them to which he replied “they are on pace”. Isn’t pace to play at the group ahead or let a group play through?
Cheers
Very Fun Layout
Not long, but has plenty of teeth. Very fun layouht in great shape
A Must play when in Monterey
The oldest golf course in the west and the classical layout is unreal. The course is normally in above average condition and the greens are a blast to putt on. Like going back in time and playing an old masterpiece.
Follow up here. I'm staying at the adjacent hotel. Last night I saw people playing, with carts, on Del Monte, right around the time last light. So basically, my family and I cut off 6-7 holes of golf that we paid for because we followed the rules of the clubhouse attendant. Thanks Del Monte.
