Greens were solid
A few dead grass spot areas but the course is in very solid condition and the greens were rolling fast and pure.
Neighborhood course
I’ve played this course many times and it can be a different course based on the course maintenance
Yesterday the rough was really deep so it was definitely a bit more challenging on my errant shots
The lack of real sand in the traps is just a mystery to me! Although you don’t necessarily need a sand wedge with the hard packed dirt.
Cart paths are terrible.
All of that said, I had a blast! Will continue to play it often. BTW… contrary to its name… it is not a links course!
Nice Executive
Mower guys may disturb your game. We left our game at 13th hole because a loud mower was next to us for 4 out of 13
St. Marks was better
Was my favorite course when it was St. Marks, but under new management it is not worth the price. Nothing has changed other than; wooden flag posts with white flags(very difficult to spot with the backdrop of white painted houses in the community), doubling of the price of green fees. The new fees are not justified, still horrible drainage, irrigation issues, course management with no Marshall. Pace of play is always slow and gets backed up right after hole 1. Mud, puddles and dry spots everywhere, the pathways are old and broken up( very rough cart ride).
This new management has ruined a local spot for golfers with these new rates
4.25 out of 5
Liked the fairways, and the greens were great. Some greens had dry spots towards the edges but didn’t really matter. Rough was challenging, liked that part. I walked it and it was nice walk. Steep though around holes 13.14.15.
Course is in great condition
This is a fun little course that has a loyal following. Great place to work on your wedge work. Greens are good for the amount of play and roll consistently. Some of the tee boxes are a bit bare, but remember you have two club lengths.
Like the course but the rough was way too long. Impossible for average players to hit a good shot and we all spent WAY TOO MUCH TIME looking for balls.
Surprisingly good
1st time playing it. Didn't really know what to expect after reading some of the mixed reviews. Golf carts are not old and the cart paths are not that bad. Greens were awesome as were the fairways. The only real issue we had was how high the rough was. Very high and thick. Don't understand why that is. Pace of play would be much quicker if it was cut to a normal level.
General review
This is a very good executive course nestled within a residential area of San Marcos. It can be walked or a cart can be rented for a reasonable rate. The course is comprised of mostly 100-120 yard holes but does have two 400 yard holes requiring your driver. The course itself has holes with standard flat elevation from tee to green intermixed with holes with elevated tee boxes and elevated greens giving the golfer various challenges to hone your short game. The course has many large trees that provide welcomed shade as well as limbs reaching out to swat your shot if not skilled in alluding the obstacle.
The greens are surprisingly well maintained. My only wish is that the tee boxes would get similar attention.
Small practice green is available and is in good condition. Pro shop simple but stocked with the basics for the unprepared- balls, drinks, and snacks.
Quality
Enjoyable rough a little high but outstanding greens and fair way good
Challenging - needs pace of play marshals
Challenging with seemingly small but really firm greens. Rough even a foot off a fairway was tough. Pace of play was slow but I'd play it again at a different time of day (morning vs. afternoon). Staff was great. Restaurant was pricey but food and service was excellent.
Great value
The course was in good condition, staff was friendly and food was great as well
Not worth it anymore
Been playing this course for 20 years, the price was increased 10, from the last 5 dollar increase. The staff is very rude, and sends out slow foursomes every 10 minutes which makes this a slow playing day. If you are going to jack up the price how about doing some work to the messed up tee boxes and have someone fix the divots on the greens since most of the new people that play there now do not know golf etiquette.
