About Northstar California Resort

Although known as a ski resort first and foremost, golfers will love life in the summer on the mountain. Northstar's Robert Muir Graves course is a tale of two nines with the front in a meadow in Martis Valley and the back nine climbing into the trees. The ski village rocks with live concerts on weekends, multiple restaurants and a kids zone. No matter your age, there's plenty to discover: arts and crafts for the kids or yoga, mountain biking, hiking and spa for the adults.

Different nines. Like two different courses.

Nice course set in the meadows (front nine) and trees (back nine). Great views and challenging.

Top tier golf experience!

From the warm welcome we received in pro shop, to the layout of the course we were very pleased and look forward to the next round at this wonderful golf course.

Very low pace

When I played there were three groups always waiting on each tee box. Where were the marshals?

There are better courses in the area for the price they charge.

Northstar Golf

I enjoyed this course as it had 2 completely different 9’s. The front is very open and driver friendly. The back was narrow and shorter which brought in other tee options.

Back nine plays tighter and meanders through the tree lined fairways and houses.

Weird

The front nine was in an alpine meadow. It was pretty unmemorable except for the swampy conditions of the fairways and the locusts. Yup, literally covered with dead and even more alive locusts. Kind of unpleasant. But that's nature for you! The back nine was in a mountainous pine forest. Quirky holes with lots of blind shots and target landing areas along with narrow fairways. I would not recommend this course. There are lots better in the area including the far superior mountain course Coyote Moon.

A little rough on front nine

The front nine was/is inundated by grasshoppers - not that Northstar has any control of that and am hearing many Tahoe courses are experiencing the same infestation. Front nine fairways are not in good shape and many are dead and brown. Back nine was in great shape….. and no grasshoppers back there! Staff was great.

Grasshoppers everywhere

First we were told by the rude pro shop guy that we did not have a reservation, which was not true. Then we find out at the starters area that there were kazillions of grasshoppers on the course. Not told before we paid or we would have backed out. And the critters were there in mass and obnoxious to play through.

This is the second time we have been cheated by this golf course and won't go back until they clean up their act--change ownership--or whatever it takes to get good vibes going here.

Maybe another time of year

The course had a grasshopper infestation so the front 9 was almost unplayable. It was also not in good condition. The back 9 was nice. Overall not worth the money because of the grasshopper infestation. Maybe another time of year it would be worth it.

Call Ahead to ask about course conditions

They had a grasshopper infestation and it was extremely bad and there was no warning on their website, etc.

Bad course, full of grasshoppers.

Front nine is horrible. Thousands of grasshoppers everywhere. They have ruined most fairways and greens. They fly up as you drive the cart. Back nine is great. Do not play this course until the grasshoppers are gone.

2 different courses in one

The front 9 is on a flat open area and the back 9 is in a tight hilly forest like area. Lots of fun!
