Lovely Day
Two of us played/rode 18 holes at our own pace. We tee'd up any the appointed hour with no one in sight, and only saw another twosome come up behind us a few holes. They were enjoying their day, and declined to play through. Tee to green, the course is beautiful, and in perfect condition. The first nine are a scenic gem, with some intriguing layouts . I hadn't played here since rumored accidental chemical destruction of a few putting surfaces. The greens were positioned as they always were, but my partner pointed out some evidence of damage repair on a few. The view of absolute perfection was spoiled, but it really didn't affect play at all.
Play a golf course design by the same Architect that did LACC Riviera and Bel Air.
Country club vibe without the dues and the initiation fee. Highly recommended.
Sleepy Ojai is a must play
What a wonderful day and round at Ojai Vally. Excellent layout, tee boxes were excellent, greens in great condition. Course has a lot of character, challenging but still fun. A must play course in California.
Great Course needs work
We’ve been coming here for years. Currently the course is only in fair condition. Greens were punched relatively recently and still had large punch holes that weren’t filled in yet. We were not given any advance notice or notice at the course when checking in as to the course conditions or offered a discount..
Sand traps are less than optimal with essentially fine dark soil rather than white sand. There were some bare spots on or adjacent to fairways
The course layout is interesting with a number of unique holes. The staff is great-very friendly and accommodating..Pace of play varied. Slow the 1st day Nice the 2nd day
The resort is terrific, and 5 stars in almost every other aspect. We feel that the course although interesting and fun, needs a serious upgrade to be commensurate with that of a 5 star resort. We always enjoy the course, but wish that it were in better shape..
Aerification nightmare...
I would like to first say that I LOVE THIS PLACE. The staff and the whole atmosphere is really a top, top notch.
However, I wish there were some notification that the golf course would be under aerification and repair. We were blind sided by it and we felt like we were playing in some construction zone. Unlike some of you, me and my wife have to take vacation days and really look forward to an outing at the Ojai Valley Inn, and we were very disappointed and heartbroken that our experience was NOT perfect, as it ALWAYS has been in the past. I totally understand that all courses HAVE to aerificate, but please let people know when you do, so that they have a CHOICE to whether play through that condition or not.

Front nine needs some work there were several fairways that are bad more water
Not As Good As Previously
I've played the course before, and always been impressed with course conditions, especially the greens. Commensuarate with the ambience and the usual price. (Yes, this time we got a tremendous deal.)
It seems that the greens have not been properly cared for...maybe recently punched? The 6th hole was particularly bad. After a few holes of nicely fast greens, suddenly here is this...moonscape. Coming up a suddnely much slower green is one thing. But s'ow and your ball is aimlessly meandering left and right as it hits rough spots and giant obstacles is quite another. Several others were no better. Disappointing.
Of course we'll come back. I just hope that when we do, the greens are in MUCH better shape.
Shame on management
Ojai Valley Inn is a beautiful resort in beautiful setting. The golf course also could be beautiful and I am sure at one time it was lovely. The first few holes are a little gimmicky but overall the track is pretty fun and challenging. Unfortunately I have to bring up the lack of care to the course. Tee boxes are mostly trashed, some only had very little grass so you we’re hitting off of sand. Many greens had issues and lots of fringe was dead. A lot of uneven playing surfaces with dead grass and lots of hard pan lies. I felt ripped off. I hope the club takes responsibility and brings the course back to the high standards that it deserves. It was in worse shape than most Muni courses
