Greens /putting greens
They have no putting greens at all! The one in front of JImmys Pub is history .. the other is closed big problems .The front nine there are 5 greens with issues thee rest are super slow and very wet we had to take a two putt rule under these conditions. Too bad as they had some of the best greens in the County.
Ojai Valley Inn
This is a great resort golf course. I had a blast. The front nine is very different than the back nine. The front is more of a links style of course, while the back is wide-open, very much a resort golf feel. The greens were in terrible conditions on a couple of the holes on the front nine. Other then that, I thoroughly enjoyed playing this course.
Not worth it
Greens are in horrible shape right now and not worth the money. Great course they let go to crap.
Greens are a mess
Amazing course in a fantastic location. Unfortunately, right now the greens have a fungus and are in horrible condition. Really horrible. Not worth playing right now if you’re a serious golfer. Great resort for spa and other stuff though.
Great Layout, Greens are suffering.
This course has a challenging layout . To bad the 6th and 8th green had some sort damage where they had to patch grass back onto it. The rest of the greens have bald spots which makes the ball bounce over the green surface when putting.
First time here!
This course layout is great and the staff is fantastic. The only issue is the the greens on the front nine were in horrible shape. Can’t wait to come back and play when the greens are in good shape. Beautiful course.
Bad greens
Ojai Vally is is a nicely laid out course with some great views. I have enjoyed it many times. However this time the greens were in such bad shape there was no way to enjoy the day. I am an assistant superintendent of a golf course, if my greens looked like the greens at Ojai I would be fired. I actually believe the tee boxes at my local municipal golf course would be better putting surfaces then the greens at Ojai. These greens would be unacceptable at any golf course let alone a $109 a round course.
Still A Great Golf Experience
I’ve been playing Ojai for 20 plus years. I took an extended layoff from the game, so I’ve not been back to Ojai for quite awhile.
The course has changed over the years. A number of years ago they took out the old 7 and 8, flipped the nines and put in “The Lost Holes” (16 and 17) to accommodate the Spa and shopping. IMO The Lost Holes should have remained lost. 16 is almost punitive with no bail out and 17 is just funky. Most recently they narrowed 9 and took out the back tee on 18 to build a function/wedding venue. 18 from the back was one of the best 4s I’ve ever played and it’s sad that it’s gone.
All of that taken into account Ojai is still a lot of fun. It plays like a short version of Rivi. On the day I played the conditioning tee to greed was above average. The greens were another story. I spoke with the guys at the Shop and found out that, while shut down, they tried to get the poa out of the greens. Over applying chemicals led to varying states of damage from complete ruin to minor effect. When the greens come back the course will be great, but not as great as it was a decade ago.
Not good
The greens had a disease/fungus and were terrible. We decided to play automatic 2 putts. The outside staff were rude but the golf shop staff was nice. The vibe was bad for a Sunday, mostly resort guests who wore flip flops cans to shirts. Definitely not any true/dedicated golfers around. A year ago it was a way better conditioned course, but they have let it go.
Beautiful golf course
It would have received a 5 except the greens were a bit rough.. I mean a couple green should be really fixed or closed ..
Overall well worth every dollar.
Will play many more times
Fun course but badly needs repair
As always, the scenery at Ojai Valley Inn is just spectacular and the staff is great. It appears the course has not been kept up at all due to COVID closures. The greens on the front 9 are just totally destroyed and some look like patched quilts. Not what I would expect from a higher end golf course.
To compare, go to Aviara in Carlsbad and the course looks like Augusta in April. They took the time off from COVID to really get the course in tip top shape. Disappointed to see OVI didn't do the same. Regardless, any day I can golf with my Dad is a good one
Golf round today
The greens were worse than any muni course I’ve ever played. They should warn golfers and give a discount for playing the fried and patched together bumpy greens. Horrible!!
What’s going on with the greens?
Beautiful course layout and design with some of the most memorable
Golf holes I have ever seen. The resort and surrounds areas are amazing the whole feel to the course is next to no other Ventura county course. My only issue was with the greens they are in the worst condition for a course that I have ever played, I understand they were closed at the beginning of COVID and they are working to get them back to the shape people know and love but as of right now the course is not worth playing for over 80+ with the greens the way they are at the moment
Working on some greens
Staff were excellent, super friendly and all were practicing social distancing. Weather was in the low 80’s with just a slight breeze. Tee boxes and fairways were in good shape. Front nine greens were in terrible shape! Looked like some kind of fungus was killing the greens. Super bumpy because you had to putt over patches of sod they replaced on the greens. Back nine greens were good but not in normal shape for this course, a little bumpy and slow. Still a good round of golf, will be back.
Nice Day
Today was a bonus because my Golfnow rewards paid for the round, so that was great. Weather was perfect and the course was pretty empty so I flew through my round. Also great! The not so great was the greens on the front nine. They were in terrible condition and clearly have not been taken care of during the shutdown. I would have pretty upset if I had to pay for this round because Ojai is not cheap.
Greens are absolute trash
How does a 5 star hotel have a beautiful golf course with greens that wouldn’t even suffice at your local put put course. Played on multiple holes where large swaths of the green were just patches of dirt.
Ojai Valley
Great layout and challenging course. Greens were a little rough for the price but overall enjoyed it and will play again.
Greens are in terrible shape. Patches of turf bumpy and slow.
great course!! BUT GREENS are in bad shape!!
Greens need a lot of work...cross between being aerified, sanded, and patchy!!!
otherwise a great course can't wait till they repair the greens..at least 3 weeks!
Great explanation of the changes over the years. I missed that back tee also. Had forgotten about the other changes, but the course definitely feels less "nice" than it did 20 years ago.
