Poor fairways conditions this round

Fairways were dry and barren. Very difficult to hit the ball. Difficult course as it is made it twice as difficult.

Wish I would have had a heads up on course conditions. It was much nicer last time I played here (back in Aug)

I will have to check with the pro shop next time

Glad I got a discounted rate or it would have been a waste of money

Best Value in SD

Great greens. Very challenging with the new renovation. Sand oh God is there sand! In fact it reminded me how much work I need on my sand shots since nearly almost all SD courses suck with providing healthy sand traps! Friendly atmosphere and tee boxes were acceptable. Will most definitely play again.

Frost alert

I had a tee time at 12 and I went there at 11:30. And I was told that there’s 2hour delay due to the frost early in the morning. I wish I had been notified before I left since I had to drive for an hour to go to the resort. It’s been a nice course as I remember but the layout was changed and the fairways are not good.

The tee boxes were too hard and dry and took a long time to find a spot the tee would sink into on almost every tee box. Sand was way deep and difficult to escape. Most balls that got dropped on green would roll right off. Difficult pin positions.

No Range Balls for You...

... but we'll still take your $4! Never played this track before. Showed up 30 min early figured hit a few balls. Give the proshop $4 for a small bucket. Get to range area and the token will not work. Turn around and see about half a dozen guys walking around the range picking up balls to hit. They tell me the dispenser is broke and the golf course sold it's ball picker? Whaaat? Go out and pick up about 18 balls as well and hit a few. Run back to the 1st tee in time to get off with my group. Then find they are having a tournament for members and the pace is sloooooow. Wait on every shot etc. Ok, we all know it's the weekend, but really? This needs to be managed more effectively. Ok layout, interesting greens, fairways a little sketch, but it's Nov so will cut some slack there. Pretty sure these guys owe me $4 though...

Needs some TLC

I have not played this course since the re-design and was really looking forward to playing until I saw and experienced the conditions. The whole course was dry. The tee boxes were so dry that they were hard and it was difficult to even get a tee into the ground. Fairways were also dry and hard. The course is playing more of a parched links style layout. I wonder if this course like others in So Cal are hurting for water? I liked the re-design of the greens, which are very challenging, but they were also very dry and extremely fast. I really hope they can get water on this course, as it needs. I am not sure if I would play it again until it is in better condition.

First time playing since the remodel

I have always loved the layout of San Vicente. Since the big remodel, what was once a very good layout has become even better. The improvements to some of the fairways, the removal of some trees, and much better bunkers is only the beginning. The new greens have transformed the corse into a true challenge - undulating, fast, firm, but true rolling. If you get caught on the wrong section of a green, 3-putt is always a possibility. There are collection areas around the greens where an overly aggressive pitch or chip shot will funnel off the green and leave you with another pitch from ten feet off the green. This is a course that will definitely challenge anyone’s short game. I’m happy with the changes, and plan to come back soon. Because of the difficulty on and around the greens the pace of play can be a bit slow, but it’s understandable.

Mini golf lovers dream

This review is based purely off someone who had never played the previous design or layout. If i make the hike out to Ramona, it will typically be for Mt. Woodson. In my opinion these are two COMPLETELY different golf courses and the differences are actually insane given they're just a few miles apart.

Mt. Woodson definitely provided the more scenic course and in my opinion is a much greener golf course with manageable greens.

SVGC is definitely a challenge, but simply due to the undulating greens, or how the old guy we played with put it....the mickey mouse greens. While the greens are certainly pure and provide a very true roll, some of the pin placements and slopes created make some putts next to impossible. Our entire foursome were single digit handicappers and a few greens left us walking away laughing! The fun part about this is the shot selections and shots you need to hit around the greens. Fairways are all burnt out grass, but still provide the ability to get down after it. Bunkers are soft loose sand for the most part. Will definitely come back here again now to play it after having some knowledge of what certain holes do, as the course definitely seems to have some low scores out there, but you HAVE to be on the right portion of the green to score, it's that simple.

Fast greens, challenging layout

They have done a spectacular job on the redesign. The fairways are good but the greens are incredible. Multi tiers, lots of break (or so you think), undulations, elevation changes, bunkers (with real sand in them). This course will challenge you but you will enjoy every minute. I would highly recommend this course.

The members attitude

Everything was perfect except the members attitude. Our behind team was the membership team. They have no manners about rule. We are 3 players but we finished by 4 hours. Our pace was very fast, however the members team behind us, they hit the tee when we are even on fairway all the time. Come on people, I never ever seen players as like you guys. Chill out and enjoy the game. What a attitude. Don’t ruined beautiful course via you guys. We are a member of other club, no one act like that. They seems like around 70nish men group but very surprised their attitude was worse than teenagers players.

However, the course was wonderful after they renovated.

You have to play this course.

We haven’t played here since it has been re-done. Oh MY! It is in such immaculate condition. The greens rolled well and fast. Unfortunately I was in a couple of bunkers but the sand was soft and fluffy, easy to get out. Every employee we encountered was incredibly friendly. It is worth every penny.

Absolutely Loved It!

First time playing the course and was so pleased with the experience. It was a beautiful day Nd the course is in great shape. The greens are super fast and large with nice undulations. I loved how they keep the fringe around the greens trimmed super short so the putter is always an option. I will definitely be back.

This course has a great layout.

This is a very good course to play it's in really good shape. I would call First make sure there's no tournament otherwise I'll be slow play other than that it's a beautiful Golf Course the greens have all undulations and are very challenging greens there's lots of beautiful white sand in the sand traps gorgeous views lots of water holes. It's about a 45-minute drive from San Diego but it's well worth the drive. I hate there and I thought it was pretty good I will be back the new general manager is very nice he let me play a few extra holes because they were so busy because of the tournament it was slow playing

Course redone

The course went through a "slight remodel" . Course layout is still the same with some trees removed.

The greens were redone with more slope and speed, similar to encintas ranch. Newer carts. Of course, changes come with a higher price tag. Pace of play depends upon how many members are added to the regular tee sheet. San V may need to lower pricing to compete with Mt Woodson. Worth playing at least once.
