The ocean view from the course is beautiful. good trip in a quiet area
No stress to play due to wide fairways . Windy day . Greens were perfect ( high speed level ) Pitching is the key for scoring.
Much more easy than Tom Watson Conservatory the other Hammock beach course.
Fantastic golf course : the best in Jacksonville area
PGA conditions for me with cut fairways and high speed green .
But we enjoy due to the quality.
Tom Watson design is perfect
The best
Good course
Holes along the ocean are spectacular. Lots of similar holes, dogs leg left with water. Overall a good course but a bit pricy.
hammock ocean
a great deal of fun. only problem that it is not well signed
WOW!
Had an excellent day on this outstanding Ocean course. One of Jacks best works. Excellent condition, attentive staff and unspoiled views. Great track!
Excellent experince
In the top five Scottish style links courses I've played in the world.
Very nice hidden jewel of a course
A bit of a trek to get there but well worth the drive.
It's a good deal at less than $100. Not sure it's worth more than that.
The conditions when I played were very windy. The tee boxes were spotty on some holes. The greens really take the grain but were in decent condition. The staff was responsive and quite friendly. No cart personnel driving the course was a small annoyance.
All You Can Handle
Very tough course.Forget the tips 7800,Two tees up on the blue are 6800,If you want a good test this is it.
great course, but challenging... awful staff and beware of resort fees
The course was setup great and tournament ready, which is expected at a Nicklaus design. The location near the ocean is wonderful, which also makes scoring a premium. The "bear claw" final four finish is great but difficult. The starter was the only staff member that seemed cordial and wanted to be there. This is a "cash free" resort course, that will charge you resort taxes on things from the pro shop to the cart girl. A general feeling I thought was that a lack of membership leads to lack of quality service at this course.
Awesome
This course is the best I've played in a long time. Very interesting and not for the faint of heart but lots of fun. The fairway bunkers are killers
Challenging course in a beautiful setting.
The Ocean Course was a perfect blend of challenging layout and scenic beauty. Every hole was tough but fair if you play the tees that match your game. Biting off more than you can handle could make for a long day.
Nice but only for a discount
The course was nice and since my greens fees were discounted considerably thru Golfnow it was worth it. the best thing was the group I was paired with. They were absolutely great.
Awesome
If you get a deal on Golfnow this course is a must. Make sure you play the correct tees. The course is long like one person posted. Played in Jan and would like to come back in and play in couple months when course is green and in better shape.
Greens are very difficult
Windy
Awesome course, greens are true but hard to read and make putts,Bring your wind breaker
One of The Best Courses in All of Florida
A top notch golf course in a housing community that has not caught on yet. The course is very difficult especially the bunkers...but the conditions were perfect. The greens fees on Golf Now were very good at $75. but if you don't catch that one it could be $200. !! I would played again at the low rate.
Conditions were excellent: greens , fairways
A great way to spend 4 plus hours on this golf course. Challenging but fair and a true test of one's golfing abilities. Using every club in the bag throughout the 18 holes.
Hammock Beach Ocean Course
This is a fantastic golf course. It deserves every award that it has recieved. The greens are in perfect condition, there's not a blade of grass out of place. The Ocean Holes are outstanding and every aproach shot is challenging.
Great Course, Great Value
The staff at this course makes this a phenomonal value. For example, while our foursome was on the range, the starter noticed we were directly behind 4 elderly women and nobody was in front of them. He moved us in front of the other group and we played in just over 3.5 hours. The course was in good but not great condition. The greens had some "winter wear" on them but were above average. The tee boxes and fairways were immaculate.
Scenic but challenging
This course was a very picturesque course. The conditions were immaculate from every aspect. The practice facility was great and the club house was very nice. Get there early to take advantage of the range and putting greens. I played with what I consider to be decent golfers and it took us all a while to get used to how fast the greens were.
We played on a very windy day but I would imagine that because the course is not too far from the ocean, its always pretty windy out there. For starters, make sure that you choose the right set of tees to play from. The course is difficult enough so don't try to play from the tips unless you are a single digit handicapper (We played from the Blue tees#. As I mentioned earlier, the green speeds were very fast and unlike most public courses in Jacksonville so try to practice as much as possible. I had #and witnessed# many 3-putts #and even 4-putts) because a simple 5 footer can turn into a 10 footer if you are putting downhill or down wind. Like other courses, having course knowledge would help a lot and I look forward to playing again because you would know where to miss certain shots. Being on the correct tier on the green is important as well and I think the greens were where most of the shots were givien up. The greens, fairways, bunkers and rough were all in top notch conditions.
The staff was very friendly, one of our playing partners lost a wedge on a hole and called the club house, they sent an employee to try to find it for him and he was able to locate it and bring it to us without making us stop our round to go look for the club.
We played for about $75 and it was a fair rate for what you are getting. I personally have a hard time spending $200/round which is what it normally costs but if you can get a Golfnow rate of $65-$75, it is well worth it. Everything was a little inflated including the beverage carts but I guess that is to be expected when you play a resort course. This was a long review but I beleive the the course deserves its due. We had a great time and will be back to try to improve our scores.
