Disappointing
Course had suffered from Hurricane Irma and a lot of clearing up was being undertaken by Greens staff. Some fairways very wet and got some plugged balls. Some tees moved very forward. Greens were very good for time of year, true and fairly quick. Rest of course was in the poorest condition I have seen for a number of years. Overall disappointed at condition of course but cheap green fee reflects this. Will still play again.
Pretty poor amenities
Not one of the 18 holes (luckily the back 9 were open thanks to a tournament) had a ball wash!
There was no attendant when I went to the starter so just picked a cart (which was not equipped with ice).
Great course in a very natural setting
It was a great course to play on. We weren’t pressured from anyone behind us and never ran into anyone in front of us. It was a bit it ritating that carts were restricted to “cart path only” that day due to wetness from Hurricane Irma from the week before, but it still turned out to be a great day of golf. Keep an eye out for old wooden boardwalks on marshy areas; as they transition from cart path to wooden bridge, the mismatched height will throw your cart up in the air if you go too fast over it. Overall, very satisfied.
Keeps Improving
Course keeps improving each round we play there. The pace of play was excellent. I realize the grounds need to some time to get back to normal, looking forward to when the tees are back to the regular spots. The fairways are growing in and the greens are rolling nicely. Looking forward to our next round there.
Not exactly the conditions the pro shop said
My husband and I played this course on Saturday, 9/23. We live in the Orlando area so we try to frequent this course as much as possible as it is one of my husband's favorite. With the hurricane a few weeks ago and the greens being punched prior to then, he called the pro shop on the Wednesday prior to the round to see if the course was in good shape before we booked our round. The person he spoke to said "yeah! course is looking great! because of the hurricane you can't even tell the greens were punched." Well I'm not sure what course this dude was looking at, but it was not the Legends course. The front was much better than the back, some of the greens had sand ALL over them to where the hole was only able to be put in one particular spot on the green. Others the bunkers were being worked on so there were places of sod missing or the sand was so wet and mucky that you couldn't step in it without sinking. The back was a completely different story. Bunkers were so hard and rocky, you couldn't hit a shot out of them and some greens had no green to them, just sand and punch holes. I don't know if we would have played here with knowing the real condition of the course, I get that you want to have people come out and play, but the condition of the course definitely did not make it for an enjoyable round and for some people would make them not come back.
Challenging
The course was in good shape. Some tee boxes and in the blind as to where the fare way is and makes it difficult to determine your line of flight. Other than that I love playing this course when ever I visit Orange Lake
Pretty good considering
Course was in great shape considering recent rains. Undergoing renovations but we were told that up front when booking. Greens were the slowest I'd ever seen them in my 40+ times playing this course. Will always be my favorite course at Orange Lake.
Course should have been closed.....
Have played this course many times over the years, today it should have been closed. GolfNow posted zero alerts to the fact that there was ongoing renovations in progress and that it was cart paths only. When checking in, the pro shop didn't even inform us of this as well-it was only when we headed to the first tee we were stopped by the guy cleaning carts and told that it was carts paths only. With the wetness of the course this was the correct decision on their part, but golfers should be told this in advance of booking....also the greens were being topdressed with sand-if done properly this isn't an issue, but the piles of sand being left on the greens was inexcusable...it was like putting on wrinkled up bath towels. Worse conditions on any course I have ever played, definitely not up to typical Orange Lake standards. If I had booked direct through the course, I would have asked for a refund after just a few holes.
Great shape
The course is in the best shape it has been in in some time. Tee boxes, fairways, sand traps and greens were all in great shape. And, it was the week after the hurricane. I'll be back.
My only complaint was lack of signage on some holes directing us to the next tee. Assume this may be related to the recent hurricane. Other than that, the course was in great condition and was a pleasure to play.
Course in great shape after Irma
This course was in great condition especially 1week after Irma, very impressed. Will definitely be back to play this course. All of the staff are top notch, very friendly and very helpful.
Hidden Gem
Arnold Palmer design. Great layout. Challenging shots with placement being very important.
It's Coming Back!
New management is spending money to bring this Arnold Palmer classic back into shape. Greens were in decent shape, beautiful new sand going into all traps. Great layout, friendly staff and minimal damage from the hurricane. In fact, part of the damage was an improvement! That giant tree on 18 is gone!
After Irma
This course is not ready for play, after the hurricane it's simply not in playing condition and need a bit of a clean up. I will give it more consideration in the future.
Well worth it
Played on hot deal $10 each great value corse in good condition for time of year when they do most maintenance tough holes and very picturesque holes just be aware no cash taken on corse amenities take a card
Long and Straight
If you plan to play this course, make sure you can hit your driver. Most of the holes were long and straight, but that's not to say they were easy. While the fairways were easy enough to find, the distance made for some tough going (mainly because I couldn't hit my driver for anything, so maybe that's on me). The course also does and excellent job of protecting the pin with hills and bunkers, rarely leaving a clean look at the hole from the tee box. I would definitely play this course again, especially at the great rate I got from GolfNow, but I'll definitely be working on my driver first.
Nice course, play it if you get the chance
Nice course, well laid out with lots of options for tee boxes. Can't say anything except play it if you get the chance.
