Course is recovering from heavy rains/hurricane
The course was on 90 degree rule to protect the fairways but was not too wet. The starter was very friendly, and the beverage cart came round 3 times during our round. Our round was completed in just over 3 hours which was great.
We had wanted to play the Legends course but GolfNow had incorrect information stating only the back 9 holes were open and had to be played twice. The Reserve course is always a challenge and an enjoyable course.
Nor for recreational golfers.
First, all 18 holes were open for play...not the "play nine twice as stated on Golf Now. This is a championship course and not recommended for the recreational or senior golfer, even from the forward tees. Fairways are usually generous, but the greens are generally small and many are very closely guarded by water and/or bunkers. Good value though, if you're up for the challenge.
Downhill
I've been a owner at orange lake for 15 years and this course has slowly gone downhill over the years. I have play municipal courses that are in much better condition. Two thumbs down.
Very wet
We have played here several time and a nice short course for my wife. The course was very wet and in my mind should not have been in play. A lot of the fairway under water and others wet underfoot. No signage or prewarning given of the condition.
Poor condition especially the greens. Pedestrians on the golf cart paths are a safety issue.
Have played this course several years ago and a few times over the last couple of years (because The Legends course was in such poor condition). The greens are inconsistent, average at best and in one case actually dug up in places, with turf being replaced and still 12-15mm above the surface of the green, in others. There were no rakes at some of the bunkers.
People staying at the resort actually use the cart paths as walkways, with little or no regard for their safety, on one hole they actually walked past us as we were on the Tee and as the path crossed the fairway further up the hole we we had to wait until they were out of range. This is also a problem on The Legends course and I’ve highlighted this in several reviews and verbal feedback to resort staff, with no effect.
Hadnt played here for quite a while and Course was in reasonable condition albeit very wet underfoot in places. Thus the 99 degree rule applied and also some cart path only. Very disappointed with starting staff who was rather abrupt and not very approachable. Unable to get food/drink when we finished as they did not accept cash.
Greens slow
Greens we're in poor condition...spotty, slow... rolling to a 6. Rest of the course was very nice.
Nice layout and good conditions considering all the rain we. Have had will definitely be back
Legends
I have been coming to this course for 20 years. Every year the course conditions get worse. Greens are slow and several have sandy areas or plugs trying to fix the bad spots. It was a 5 hour round. Needless to say I was once again disappointed in the overall experience.
Sorry to leave negative feedback for a course I enjoyed long ago. Hopefully improvements will come.
Course much better 7 years ago
Round was very slow with no ranger to be found to keep play going- several areas in fairways were unplayable due to wet and mud- if I paid more than 16 dollars I would have been severely frustrated
Annual Golf Trip
Son and I retuned for our annual, and are happy to see the course returning the old days, keep up the good work!!
Poor condition
The golf course (legends), was in poor condition, not only because of aeration, but it seemed to be poorly maintaned (lots of divots on the greens and all sort of weeds)
If we have known about this conditions previouly, we would not have paid to play there...
The golf carts does not even have a eletronic map monitor, we had hard time to understand the golf course, since we only had the map of the scoring card..
The pro shop should and the web site should have some have informed us about the situation..
Great layout
This course has a great layout. The problem was the greens had been aerated and were not in good shape.
Enjoyable day!!
Was a bit skeptical playing after a big rain and Hurricane Irma several weeks ago. Most of the trees were cleared. Fairway was still drying out, so we did the cart path only...no big deal. The greens were in real good condition, but a bit slow.
It took us about 4 hours and 15 minutes to play from the cart paths. We will definitely go back again.
Back to its original standard
We have played this course many times over the past few years and it is good to see that the course has almost returned to its best. The layout is challenging and with the work progressing on the back 9 I am sure that the course will once again be a championship course. Good to see the Legends at Orange Lake back in business.
