Nice morning outing
Playing this course for the first time l was pleasantly surprised . The greens are healing nicely after being areated. The fairways are in good shape and the tee are okay considering how dry it's been.
There is a good mix of short par threes and big boy par threes even though they are par fours on the card. Great short game practice. Course is narrow so it's also good practice for staying straight. Staff are nice, carts are in good shape and course is well marked. Regular price is high so make sure you use Golf now
Getting better
The course was in better shape than I expected. Only #18 green was temporary. I've been coming here and playing for almost 20 years, and it's certainly the worst condition ever, but not that bad! There were a tremendous amount of workers on the course laying sod and pine straw. I believe the new management will get it back -it will just take a little time.
Good value but not the best condition.
This is a great golf course but is in the worst condition I've seen and I've been playing since it opened. The fairways are a bit patchy and have been cut up for some sort of treatment. We played winter rules to place the ball. The greens are very patchy and sometimes just smooth dirt in places. It's all ok for me though, the rates are reduced to the lowest I've seen (just paid 18 bucks) and the location and on site facilities make up for it. Still had a great time.
Gary Walker Fairly Good
Course was undergoing some fairly major renovations, which affected play, but overall it was in decent shape. Staff was really good. When course grows back in. it will be great.
Cranes bend
Course under rehab. Greens are all plugged and filled so forget putting. Fairways are decent. Tee boxes are rough. Prices should be lowered in this condition
Needs Lots of Maintenance
This review is actually for the Reserve Golf Course. I had signed up to play Cranes Bend with my wife who is a beginner. Cranes Bend was closed (no reason provided) so they put us on the Reserve course. To start with, the starter sent a group of 6 beginners to the first tee just before us. It took twenty minutes from the time they hit their tee shots to the time we could hit ours. Because they were all beginners they hadn't learned golf courtesy, they wouldn't let us play through. We had to jump them after 3 holes because we were over an hour into the round! Take-home message here is that there is no on course management. Even for the $20 each I paid on Golf Now for the Cranes Bend course, this course was not a bargain- fairways and greens were burned out and patchy. Not worth the time - play elsewhere.
Don't believe the hype.
Very disappointed with the staff and amenities. My bag was strapped on backwards and they don't even have wet towels.
Worst conditions I've ever seen
I'm usually not one to bash something, but this course was horribly maintained. I mean it was awful. I'm from Indiana and have seen some goat ranch type courses, but this place just wasn't taken care of. Every hole had patchy rough, loose soil, tread marks everywhere, patchy greens, nasty ponds, etc. I even had to ask the drinks girl what happened to the course? I read great reviews and figured this course would be amazing bc it's in Florida and that was not the case. Even the 18th hold had the flag stick IN THE FAIRWAY, bc the green was sooo messed up. So I literally was putting on the fairway to get in the hole. I paid $30 on golf now for this $100 course and even $30 is a ripoff for this course. Yes, it's that bad. Everything else tho was amazing. Service and staff was excellent.
Nice layout but course in poor condition
Glad I didn't pay full price. Course in poor condition and hopefully the work carried out will sort things out soon enough. I play in Scotland and have seen better conditions in middle of winter. Like the layout and I'm sure I would have given 4 stars overall of course wasn't in such poor condition. Staff very friendly.
Fun to play
Great course for average golfer wide fairways big greens not real difficult to putt nice layout front and back are completely different styles of courses
WARNING! Undisclosed Verticut / Horrible Conditions!
So many options in Orlando - wasted last day of trip on this cow pasture. Weeds and bare spots abound. Ponds nearly dry. No conditions alert on GolfNow.
This was probably a nice track a few years ago. Palmer design. I understand there has been a drought in Orlando but we played 2 other courses that had been spending money on water. I am completely disgusted by this course's lack of transparency and honesty on GolfNow. We didn't play other courses (eg Waldorf) because they were honest about their aerification.
GolfNow needs to:
A) police this kind of stuff. I consider a lack of disclosure to be the same as a LIE.
B) come up with a rating system that weights recent reviews more heavily than older reviews.
I want a $150 credit!
Bad condition
Arrived at the complex and went to the pro shop. And was told i had to go to a different building around the corner. Couldnt find the building so asked a member of public who told me its 3/4 of a mile down the road. Pro shop worker failed to tell
Me this and seemed rude. Although im aware that florida is struggling with a drought right now. The course was in terrible condition, the tee zones were in a shocking state. And the marks on the greens were everywhere. Looks to me that this course has been badly neglected and the other courses on the complex had been given all the attention. Was the only person on the course and could see why.
Poor playing conditions
I have played this course last year. Liked it very much and decided to take my daughter there for a my birthday round of golf. We are both very serious about her golf.
Staff was great about telling me about the water holes and bath rooms but failed big time to tell us they have 4 temporary greens. Would not have played or booked had been aware of the conditions. Not happy.
Okay at right price
The course is clearly in need of love and attention. A lot of damage on a number of greens and areas of fairways & tees in need of attention. Bunkers looked to be well maintained...which was a little odd! Course state partly down to lack of rain I'm sure.
Nice lay-out but very American....driver off every par 4 for instance.
Worth playing but not for more than I paid($26 total).
Still not recovered
Fairway and Greens still suffer from sprinkler system brake down during late summer 2016.
Drought has affected greens.
This is a nice course and considering the drought, the fairways are in pretty decent shape. Unfortunately the same cannot be said for the greens. Several of the greens were almost unplayable and to top off our misery, it seems like they were recently top-dressed with sand. Staff is friendly and welcoming. Hopefully some rain will improve conditions here.
