OK, but Pricy.
There are not many quality courses around Panama City, so the price of a mediocre course is more than you'd find in other warm climes. $100 after noon is not what you’d normally expect to pay. First 5 holes were tricked up - lots of angles and water. After that the course is fairly normal. Greens were a tad slow with lots of poa which made putting more difficult. Plus, we crossed roads between holes often. Overall it’s an OK course with few other options in the area.
First 9 was too much carry over hazards. Back 9 was better. Greens were fair but challenging
It’s also very nice to meet other golfers. As much as I don’t mind golfing as a twosome, I think that a foursome helps increase the speed of the game.
Attracted by name but disappointed with quality
Greens were packed with tuffs of thicker grass and had a lot of debris. Fairways were hard and made it hard to know if a shot hit where to wanted would stop on fairway. All said, I learned that if a course is named after a famous person,it doesn’t mean that it’s kept up to any standard.
Greens
Rolled nicely but had a little leafy plant on the greens --not sure why it was there -- a problem if in your line
Disappointed
My wife and I played the course for the first time and expected better. First off, no GPS on the carts which was really needed as they were a couple of holes on the front nine that were difficult to figure out where to hit to (layup fairway landing over march etc) and having to play 6 holes "cart path only".. Because of this pace of play was extremely slow for groups ahead as we constantly waited on every hole. It became so slow that when we got to the 12th tee, we were the 4th group on the hole. We called the proshop and they sent out the "golf ambassador" as they have no oncoure ranger. He told the group holding everyone up to let us go ahead. We skipped the 12th hole and found that there were 3 holes open ahead and played pretty quick. Them we got stuck on 17 behind a 5 some and waited more to play the last two holes. The layout is challenging, and the greens have a lot of undulation. They were made even more difficult to putt as most were bumpy due to spots of poa annua
popping up all over. Without having someone on the course making sure pace of play is maintained, not allowing 5somes and adding GPS to the carts, we probably won't come back.
