LH's Course Review
Played Crandon many years ago. Brought my son for his 1st time. We loved it. EXCEPT for the ridiculous clouds of mosquitoes on the back 9. Will bring spray & fogger next time. However, there should be a truck with a fogger that goes around the course to help alleviate the situation.
Mosquito bites
In a nutshell, I wouldn't play here ever again.
The overall course condition was pretty bad. The fairway did not maintained well and I saw a lot of dead grass patch on the putting green.
What makes worst is the mosquitos. I had more than 20 mosquito bites in first none holes. It was horrible.
Overall, it is not worth playing this course with that amount of money.....
Challenging but fun
First off, I do not recommend playing this course if it has rained in the past couple days as this course floods very easily. With that being said it’s a great course layout, the greens are in fantastic shape and it’s challenging but a lot of fun!
Bring bug spray
Excellent course -- way harder than I anticipated, even with looking online. BUT... bring mosquito spray. Holy cow was it absolutely covered in mosquitos, starting with the first par three over the mangroves & water and basically anytime near any water (which was most holes).
Hidden Gem
Great course layout. Located on the bay surrounded by mangroves. The course could definitely use some tlc in certain areas but the good things about this course outweighs the bad. Bring your A game.
Greens are still recovering from aeration but were very playable.
Great course in decent shape. Looming thundershowers allowed a 3 hour round!!!
Worth twice the price at that pace!!!
Crandon - Key Biscayne
Some of the greens could use a little work and the tee boxes are very sandy. All in all, in great condition for a public course. Very challenging, small greens, lots of hazards and penalty areas so hit ‘em straight. It down poured during my round so only go to play on the front 9, but I’ve played there before and highly recommend it.
P.S. Bring your mosquito repellent
Nice and difficult course
I really enjoy playing at this course. Clear and organized layout, with a lot of bunkers haha.
The greens were very fast in my opinion.
Sure I’ll play it again.
Lost a lot of golf balls but had fun doing it
Beatiful and hard course
The course is really beatiful, and also very hard, i played from the blue tees and also long.
The only problem was the first nine holes that we had 4 horrible players ahead of us and the course was very slow.
I will come back at the end of the month for sure!
Worst golf experience of all time
We started this lovely course at 2pm and after 3 hours, when we had only played 8 holes,
quit because of the slow pace of play. We spent 3/4 of three house watching the slow golfers in front of us, and 1/4 of the time actually playing. The driving range was closed without notice
when we arrived at 1pm, and only a few golfers teed off between 1 and 2. To protect the
pricing structure at the course, where there is a 50% twilight discount for starts 2 pm or later,
the starter refused to let any of the twilight golfers start playing. This would have alleviated
the slow play that ensued. The course has a sign on the 4th or 5th hole asking players to keep
up the pace of play. They could back up this policy by having the starter tell people that they
need to keep up their pace of play so as to finish in 4hours 30 minutes. We had booked three more rounds at this course over the next week, and just cancelled all of them.
Play cut short
Great course
However, we came in for a rain delay - and then the management shut the course - despite the two hours of sunshine that followed. Very disappointing not to be able to finish the round …especially when I saw players still out on the course as I left. The decision to not let us out was no doubt for the convenience of the staff in terms of closing up.
Big Boy Golf
Crandon is a great layout. The course tests every part of your game. Landing areas are generous. The test really begins on your approach shots into the greens. They are well protected by bunkers. Greens roll true.
In very poor condition The county doesn’t want to spend any money on it. It is one of the best courses in South Florida but in the worst condition. Don’t bother unless you have no other place to play
Nice course, friendly people
Lots of flooded areas from recent rain. Was not able to ride a cart, walking only that day.
But still gave overall 5 star because it is a nice course with friendly starter and people.
