Beverage Cart - No Liquor
Great Course, Stonemont is the better course for golf than Lakemont.
Solid layout, decent pace of play, the only issue was the beverage cart did not have any liquor. Previously, we were told that during 2021 and 2022 the beverage carts had liquor for the course; however, this changed and we could only purchase beer. It would be great to have liquor on the beverage cart after chunking an 8i after a great drive into an easy par 4.
Not for the Faint of Heart
Played front 9 of both the Lakemont and the Stonemont course.
Overall the course is in very good shape, would not expect less from a course in this price-range. The fairways grass was still dormit and yellow ( dry/dead) , making for a hard surface . I was suprised by that , which impact your overall iron shots and close-in chips. The sandtraps were the best I have experienced in any course over the last 3 or 4 years.
These two courses are not for hackers or beginners. Come ready to play and focused. Fast elevated multi-slopping greens, and fairways that are sloped to magnify all slices. ( There courses I think, would favor a lefty and their slice)
How I managed to only have one 3-putt is a question for the "Golf-Gods" ( two lucky 15ft and 22ft putts)
I am a 15 HCP and I didn't brake 100. I know the next time I will , because I will know how to tackle some of those holes that requires knowing the lay-of-the-land.
FYI: There was a Five-some group on the course. As sloooow as these 5-hackers were, we were able to navigate around them then loop back & play their hole and then go back to our normal hole playing.
Fun time.
Tough course
Beautiful, but difficult course. Look forward to playing again soon.
Beautiful layout
Course plays long and undulated with not much room for error! Great layout and fun to play! Greens are mediocre at best with some mini sand traps on them (lol) ! Course in better shape than last year! Hope they keep working to make the condition great being a State Park with beautiful scenery!
Average
The layout of the course was above average with scenic views of stone mtn that added to the enjoyment of the game. The staff were welcoming and accommodating, which contributed to a positive atmosphere throughout the day. The condition of the greens were well below average, which detracted from the overall experience and the price for poorly maintained the course felt was a bit much and that was on top of the $20 to park at stone mtn. Unlikely to play this course again.
Mountain of fun
Both courses at Stone Mountain are excellent and not crowded during the week. You will have to buy a daily parking pass (currently $20) or an annual pass (currently $40) so be sure to budget for that. I recommend the annual pass if you are local as there are multiple attractions at this park.
Poor Value
Paid $158 for a round at Lakemont and the weather was amazing but the course was in poor shape. That was a $60 value at best.
Poor course condition
The course was not in good condition- not even close. The greens were slow and very bumpy. Granted it’s April and the course was wet, but it looked as if not one maintenance guy had touched the entire course in a long time.
Expensive for the course conditions
I don't really expect sand traps on the tee's and greens. Great day a bit early season, but should not have been paying this rate for this course.
First timer rating
I played right after the greens were aerated and it was still a great time. When the grass is prime go the fairways and greens, this place is a great place to play.
Good course, at times
Have played this course a few times. It is a fun course that on the right day will be in great shape. On the wrong day you will get course conditions that aren’t worth the money to play. The conditions are inconsistent overall. The pace of play is also hit or miss, but you can typically expect 4.5+ hours if it’s busy. The scenery is beautiful.
Shameful
The course itself is in a pretty location and the front 9 are very scenic. But the course was in terrible condition. Does not drain well at all. Half of the fairways are pretty much hitting out of mud. Tee boxes were mostly dirt. Greens were bumpy and had sections that are wetter and slower than other areas on the same green. And it’s clear that no one repairs divots or pitch marks. Layout is unique and challenging. But for being ~$80/person it is a terrible value.
Let people know when the greens are sanded and punched.
A few friends and i booked a tee time here without any knowledge of the condition of the greens. They were sanded and punched. Nothing on the website said that. Range was closed. Can’t blame the course for winter conditions and rain but it drains terribly. The layout is just not fun. Made for a rough day of golf. I see why nobody was out there. On the bright side, the staff was very friendly. The other course is usually in better shape. Probably won’t be coming back to this side any time soon.
