Seen much better
The entire course seems like it has taken a beating. Been much better than this. For the price seems like you could do much better.
How far this place has fallen
After being told to tee off, we hit THRU the 2 some in front of us, never knew they were there and starter was oblivious. For some reason the group in front of us, my group and the group behind us they sent all off as 2-somes, with a slow 4 some holding us all up. Greens were absolutely terrible, diseased, crabgrass, weeds, I was dumbfounded as this place used to always be great. Won't go back and I'd stay away from this track, almost unplayable.
Overpriced With Rough Greens
I was excited to play on this course when traveling to the Atlanta area. After arriving the staff was very friendly, but the greens were some of the worst greens I’ve ever played on. No ball markets were ever fixed, there was black tar or hardened old f dirt it looked like on some of them instead of grass. There were also some patches with sand only that I had to putt through. This course was not worth the $98 that I paid. I wouldn’t pay more than $30 to play here again
Good course but could be better
Decent course. Staff was excellent, friendly and very helpful. They do have a driving range and chipping green but you have to get your balls at the clubhouse. The greens were un-manicured. For the price I feel like improvements could be made to make them better.
Much Potential. Looks like they are trying.
Lakemont has the views and the layout to be a great course. It once was.
Starting from the tees, they are wildly inconsistant, as is much of the course. Some are perfectly passable or good, but some are just awful. There is a mix of everything in between.
Greens are the same as the tees. Though I can't think of more than a few that I would say are perfectly passable. The majority are rough, with lots of unusable space and some where the horrible spots are smack in the middle.
Fairways/rough are nice and the bunkers for the most part have sand. There seem to be a few that are pretty barren. I personally did not feel like I got a bad break due to conditions between the tee and green.
I won't comment on staff unless someone was exceptionally rude or helpful. I have been here three times in three weeks and have seen mostly different faces.
Pace of play is fine. There can be some jams but even then it moves well. Played a Friday 3:45 round in 4 hours, which for most Atlanta area public courses is not awful. Have been a few times the past month and it has been pretty much the same each time.
I think we have been around 47 or something for the round. Apparently Stonemont is 37ish? Stonemont under 40 is a great play as of this past week. I would not play Lakemont again in this current state for over $40 on a weekday afternoon.
Good layout, views, value, some greens a little rough
As always a pretty and peaceful course. And fair value for what you get and versus other public courses around ATL.
Not overly crowded.
Pro shop guys were friendly.
Some of the greens were a little rough - in terms of jenky patches of grass and a few with slick parches. Same review for a few of the tee boxes. Fairways were good.
Greens are terrible
I have played both Stone Mountain courses for years and have seen them go from great to bad and back to good conditions. Currently the greens are in terrible condition. The fairways are ok but not as good as in the past.
The only reason I will play them now are the hot deals.
Fantastic layout/design, very poor conditions of tees and greens
Fantastic layout/design, very poor conditions of tees and greens
FYI
The overall layout and scenic view surrounding the mountain was really nice. The fairways were in good condition but several tee boxes needed some attention. The most upsetting part of the entire course were the greens. They were awful and in really bad condition. They were very rough, some had weeds growing out of the grounds while others had huge black circles in the middle of the greens. For this to be an RTJ course, I expected a lot more.
Also, keep in mind if you want to play there, you’ll have to pay an additional $20 for a day pass to get into Stone Mountain Park (or you can pay $40 for the annual pass).
Greens are not consistent
The tee boxes and fairways are in good shape, some of the greens are in terrible shape. looks like the sun cooked them pretty good. The greens with a bit of tree cover are in good shape. I like the course except for the green condition being inconsistent. I may wait a while before playing again.
Terrible condition
Saturday 10:30 tee time. Took ~ 5 hours to complete round with group of 4. Greens were in terrible shape. Value of a 20-30 dollar course at best, but rates listed as high as 120 for weekend.
