Completely Different Course
I have been playing City club for about 7 years and seen it go through various stages of conditioning and enjoyment. I am so excited about the course right now.
The firmness of the new greens adds a strategy to the course that was lacking in the past. It is now incredibly engaging, and challenging.
I played day after a full day of rain and the drainage was good and the firmness of the green was still very high. I cannot wait until summer/fall 2020 when these get really dialed in.
I used to only play here when invited...or when there was nothing else to do because it was nothing special. Now it is a brand new course with a new identity and will be here regularly in 2020. Highly Recommend.
New Greens are Great!
It’s been a year since they redid the greens. We played 1 day after a super heavy rain fall and the course was in great shape all considering. Greens were firm and fast which makes it so much more interesting. Back 9 is easy to walk. Front 9 a little bit more hilly. Would definitely recommend to people in the area looking for some public golf!
Amazing Day of Golf!
This will be my new everyday play. The new greens as spectacular! The staff has done a great job getting this course back into excellent condition! Thank you for the hospitality and helping set up this great event.
Good deal close to town
Nice course close to I-285. Overall, it was in pretty good shape. Hard to rate overall condition given everything is dormant. Despite the greens being new, they are already showing a little wear, being spotty in places. They are fast. With a Golfnow Hot Deal, the value is hard to beat.
Don't let the scorecard fool you
Yardage is not a great indicator of the difficulty of a golf course. City Club Marietta drives that point home. Even a relatively short hitter will have a lot of short approaches here, but the lack of flat lies and the potential treachery of the greens can conspire against a score here in a hurry.
I stopped in on what happened to be the course's annual "Customer Appreciation Day," which confused me once I got on the course and noticed that half a dozen holes were cut in positions that might be considered extreme on Superintendent's Revenge Day. On brand-new greens that were pool-table firm, there was simply no way to approach a few hole locations, which makes the game unnecessarily frustrating, not merely challenging.
This sounds like a negative review, but I really did appreciate the course overall. It's just that I caught it on a day when the hole locations minimized the potential for fun.
Much improved greens - tee boxes a mess- but great course
I’ve always love the course and was distressed when the greens got in such bad shape last year and the year before. They’ve now fixed that problem and they’re amazing.
The staff remains the same great Team that were there before (very friendly and helpful) but for the life of me I can’t figure out why m, when they closed the course last spring, they didn’t fix the rounded and scruffy tee boxes. Still an enjoyable round. Also, Play behind a foursome that I never played golf before and never saw a Ranger the entire day even though they were 2 to 3 holes behind the group in front of them
Good but not very good
Although this is a public course. I had higher expectations, since this is part of the Marietta Conference Center.
The course is good - length of course is relatively short but plays longer - new grerns have been installed but poorly - grill and proshop close by 5:00 pm during the week.
Bad Greens and a bad layout
They need to just close the course down in the winter and get the course “up to speed”, but of course that won’t happen. The GPS on the golf carts is a joke. I quit using it after the 3rd hole because the distances were so off.
The worst part about the course though is the greens. But even if the greens were good it still would be a bad course. There’s maybe 5 good holes on this course,, with some par 3s that are just laughably bad. You can tell they were given a small piece of land to fit 18 holes onto and just crammed a bunch of holes together and the design of the course suffered because of that.
There are so many better courses in the area to choose from that are around the same price. I would never suggest that anybody play here and I will definitely never be coming back.
I was wondering why the parking lot was empty....
This course is a mess. The greens are terrible, the fairways and thin and spotty, and there are so many leaves everywhere that is nearly impossible to find your ball in the middle of the fairway. Plus people who seemed to never play golf before holding up play and there was no Marshall to be seen all day. This course obviously does the bare minimum to even be “open” for play so they can squeeze every last penny from the few players that play here. I paid $45 and I wouldn’t play here again if it was free. So many other courses in better shape and are actually cared for in the area. Don’t bother coming here.
Waste of time
The new greens are awful. I realize they changed them to save water but the old ones were decent and the new ones are really bad. They are extremely bumpy and uneven as well as some are fast and some are slow. The fairways are very thin and sparse. GPS on the cart is worthless. Lots of blind shots and holes running parallel to each other which makes it a very dangerous course to play. Golf balls coming from all directions so keep your head on a swivel. Kid at the bag drop just sat in a cart and stared at his phone both before and after I played. This course is worth $10 tops. Lots of better courses around for the same price or less
We are sorry you did not enjoy your experience at City Club. As the new greens mature, they will get much smoother. We will be topdressing them regularly and performing other maintenance practices to get them in top shape, but it will take some time. If you could provide some specifics on the GPS system, we can pass them along to Yamaha and get the issues corrected. As for the bag drop staff, I can assure you that this is not the level of customer service we strive to provide and we are already looking into the situation. We hope to see you again in the future and the opportunity to provide you with a better experience.
Great Value
City Club Marietta has always been one of my favorite courses to play. The biggest struggle over the last couple of years has been the greens, but they finally made the decision to change the grass this year. The greens are in excellent condition and are very firm. The course might be short, but there is a great variety of holes. Looking forward to returning soon.
New greens
First time since playing with new greens. Always felt MCC was great value. Disappointed when the greens when last year. Now the new greens the course is back to its value. Greens run true.
Haven’t played here in a while
The course is in better shape that I had seen it in years past. Greens were a little slow, and a couple were in tough shape. However the course itself looked great, and was a good value for the money.
Rather play putt putt
Course was in terrible shape, and the "Pro" at the desk was one of the rudest people I have ever met. He started unzipping pockets on my golf bag to look for smuggled in beers. I had one powerade in my bag and he insisted that if we wanted to play I would have to dump it out or toss it. What a joke. He lost out on our party of 4 eating lunch there and having a beer after our round. Well played on your rude routine.
Course was in great shape
The new greens are really starting to take hold. Course is hilly with some challenging holes but also has enough easy holes to make it fun to play.
Thank you for playing City Club Marietta. We are sorry you were disappointed by the greens, a project like this does not happen overnight and they will take a little time to mature. We do close the Grill and Golf Shop at 5:00 during the winter due to the earlier sunset times and the reduced amount of play. Thank you for the feedback and we look forward to seeing you in the future.
