Golfer Beware**** Greens are garbage
It’s amazing to me that this course is still open and booking tee times. I was told they aeirated the greens 9 days ago but that’s not the problem. The greens are completely gone. Grass is gone and it’s sand/ dirt in 75/80% of the greens. Tee boxes are in bad shape as well.
The staff mentioned nothing at booking and check in.
I’d suggest not playing here until the greens are replaced.
IMO I should have demanded a refund but chose to move on and not bother.
Hope this helps.
Good Course for $, little chaotic though
I've played this course several times over the years. Lots of rain this year have made the greens very soft and slow. My ball actually plugged on 3 of them. Pace of play could use a lot of improvement, add an extra 5 minutes between tee times and this would solve that issue. One other thing to be wary of, the hole locations are close. Keep your head on a swivel, I dodges (literally) three balls last round.
All in all, it is worth the price. Solid course. Decent challenge. Overall well kept but gets a lot of play and the rain just took its tole this year on their greens.
Thank you for the kind words. The Bentgrass/Poa Annua combination of grasses on the greens do require extra water in the heat of the summer causing softer conditions. We look forward to seeing you again this fall!
Great Course
This is a wonderful place to play golf, staff friendly and a great course layout with wonderful views of Marietta.
I am sure the management already knows about the greens.
If you can get by the damaged greens you can have a great day.
Thank you for playing City Club Marietta! We are working hard on the greens and they will be back soon. We look forward to seeing you again in the future.
Play when it's in better shape
This course currently needs a warning the greens are not playable until they get them back. It's currently not worth the price. I've played this course when it was in better shape and enjoyed it. Be prepared for slow weekend rounds. The amount of blind shots and short par 4s lead to very slow pace, and I didn't see any marshals speeding up slow groups.
Greens were terrible
Past rounds here have generally found course conditions to be above average. However, the greens today were in terrible condition. There was an aeration alert posted, but that was not the issue. Approximately 40% of almost every green was just sand because there was just no grass. We were playing on a Hot Deal so we did not pay a premium for Sunday play, but walkups were paying about $45. Way too much given the condition of the greens.
We are sorry you did not have a great experience with us this time. The staff is working on the greens and the new seed is showing signs of life, so we should be back to our normal conditions before too long.
Shocked
I was truly shocked to see what horrible shape this course is in. They’ve totally lost the greens, most of them more bare than green, virtually impossible to putt on. The tee boxes and fairways weren’t that great either, while not bare, other clumping grasses in spots. I complained to the staff and received somewhat lame excuses. I also mentioned that they should have posted some type of notice as to how bad the greens are. The gentleman at the clubhouse said he posted an alert with GolfNow but I didn’t see any such alert. On the way home, I opened the app to book another tee time just to look for a course alert and nothing. They should close the course until they can revive their greens. What made it even worse is that since the greens were so bad, nobody seemed to be repairing their ball marks either. It will be a long time before I play here again, if ever.
We apologize for your less than ideal experience. We are working hard on the course and we are already seeing new growth on the greens. We hope that you will give us another chance in the future.
Maintenance
This course has wonderful staff and great service. The course, having really nice fairways, lead into unimpressive greens. Every single green had mud patches all over it and prevented any balls from rolling true and this was extremely frustrating while trying to putt. Another issue my 4some had was on hole 18, we all tee'd off and were about to hit our approach shots when a maintenance guy literally drove a cart on the green and started hosing it down. We sat there in the fairwayfor over 10 mins watching the worker until he finished. He then drove right at us (in the middle of the fairway, as if we weren't there). Needless to say, we were not happy. The carts now have GPS available which was a huge plus when trying to figure out distance of your next shot. If they get the greens back in shape this course would be fantastic.
WORST GREENS EVER PLAYED BY FAR
Cart attendent was very rude. The worst greens by far I have ever played on. Mud for greens with no grass. Told me it was discounted $45 really. Should be $25. There was no info about the poor conditions of the greens on the website or golf now. Very disappointed wish I could have my money back. The layout of the course is acceptional but I would not reccomend this course to anybody and I’ll never play here again. Bulldoze the greens and start over.
Green need work
Overall the course very nice, except for the greens. They seemed neglected. Also no sand available for the course to fill in club marks in fairway.
Thank you for playing City Club Marietta. The rain and heat have taken a toll on the greens this summer, but the staff is working hard to get them back in shape. We are seeing new growth and we are looking forward to a great fall season.
First time playing this course
I thought that the layout of the course was very good. The greens were in bad shape and it was difficult to putt through a muddy area to the hole. I hope that the greens do come back this year as I would love to play here again. The rest of the course was in good condition. Pace was good as we played in just a little over 3 hours.
Horrible greens
I had heard good things about this course, they had a deal on golf now for 30$. Wish I would have gone to another course. Greens were the worse I have ever seen. It would have been nice if someone had said something. Won’t play here again.
Love course - many greens need help now
Absolute love the scores, challenging, interesting, you will use every club in your bag.
Short term problem- they have some kind of damage and fungus on the greens on the front nine and one or two holes on the back that make for a very frustrating day particularly if you can hit the green in regulation - Staff gave no warning of this - would’ve been nice to of known or booked the round- and they have no local rule to accommodate for this. Pretty unprofessional
Long term problem is pace of play - Course marshals are useless, they never do anything, never seen them even talk to me for some hours to complete complete holes behind, and it can be a really long round of golf since So many of the holes are so challenging
Both issues are fixable - wonder if they care
Fun layout
Use to be a fun course to play. Condition has wen down. They have lost the greens! Mostly burnt grass and dirt. Tee boxes full of crab grass. Not what I expected!
Layout good/ Greens burnt out
Type of grass on greens was 60% burnt out completely. Obviously, that isn't an issue all year, but its tough during peak golf season. The layout was fun and it was a very fair course.
Poor greens
Greens were burnt and bumpy- when asked they mentioned the pesticides they sprayed was keeping the grass from growing/sticking.
Really disappointed this time- especially bc there was now fair warning or discounts due to course conditions( should be similar to when they airrate- not full rate).
nice lay out
nice staff. and. good looking lay out
and good condition in fairway. greens need take Care of it soon.
Great Course
This is a great layout and somewhat challenging. The fairways were cut almost perfectly, but the greens were beat up a bit.
I would recommend this course to anyone looking for a fun course.
Love the course
The greens are great buy some a real patchy and ill
We are very sorry that you were not informed prior to playing. We have been trying to let everyone know about the course conditions either at the time of booking or check-in. We have re-seeded the problem areas and they are beginning to show signs of life. Please keep us in mind for the future as the course will be back in shape soon.
