Two different nines
Enjoyed this course. Tee to green in very good condition. Some crab grass on two of the back 9 greens.
Very pleasant course to play
Definitely at tale of two nine. Front nine threads through a woodland setting with some memorable hole with well kept greens. Second nine is a wide open pasture setting, again with a nice routing. Several of the greens had an abundance of weed grass from the adjoining pastures. Overall a very pleasant round.
2 completely different 9’s
Front 9 tree lined back 9 Scottish links, both were nice. A couple of greens were patchy with crabgrass on the back 9. Overall my wife and I were very pleased.
Crab Grass
Decent layout. Front side Is in pretty good shape, greens look and roll good. The backside is a different story. The back has been taken over by crab grass and it’s as if the course has given up. Making a put is like playing plinko.
Front 9 Great Back 9 Rough
As they explain in their brochure, front 9 is traditional with trees, back 9 is wide open links style. There is no grass on back 9 in the fairways, wind makes ground hard and the greens have clumps of grass on them, making them bumpy. Layout was good,
Great layout poor condition
I like this course. It consists of a woodlands front nine and a links style back nine separated by a five minute cart ride through a swamp. The woodlands front nine is a great layout with a few hills and lots of dog legs. Number one on the front nine is a little intimidating as it is straightaway and narrow. The back nine is built on a farmers field and features a number of interesting dog legs and risk reward shots over waste areas. The problem with the course is that at the moment it is in poor condition. The front nine fairways have many bare areas and it needs grass seed badly. The greens on the front nine are very good with the odd bare spot. The back nine fairways also need lots of grass seed and the greens are very slow. There is some sort of invasive grass on all of the back nine greens. Bottom line…. Interesting layout in poor condition.
Work on the greens
Some of the greens needed some work, but we had a great time!
Tee time was delayed due to cold conditions.
Staff made phone calls to alert booked players of delay. Course conditions were great looking forward to next tee time..
Greens are now amazingly good
I've played this course probably 2-3 times per year over the past 10 years, and the greens have always been okay, nothing great...until I played December 6. They are in incredibly good condition - not quite perfect, but very close. The GM told me they are making conditioning a priority at the Georgia State Parks courses, and Brazell's Creek has benefitted.
Family Thanksgiving
Played with several family members as we were RVing at the State park. This was a 3 1/2 - 4 hour round as there were definitely some people on the course for the holidays plus with the recent rains the front 9 was cart path only slowing down the pace of play on the front.
The course was generally in good shape and even with the recent rains the greens were fast and in great shape. This two 9s of this course are really different with completely different challenges, The front 9 is a tree lined course with some wetland areas adjacent to the fairways. The back nine almost has a links feel as it is extremely open, dryer with large natural waste areas between the fairways. The two nines are and play so different. The bunkering was also completely different. As the back nine is dryer the pace of play was much faster.
I really enjoyed my round of golf at this course and will play there again.
