What a surprise! The overall course was in good condition. The tee boxes could use a little care but it’s hard to complain about this given the other aspects of the holes all being positive. The price value was spectacular.
Nice golf course ,generous fairways , fast and hard greens
Great course , good variety of holes , in good shape with very hard and fast greens .Will defined play here again .
Lovely Georgia course , big pines , great layout and new greens
Greens were fast and hard , generous fairways and great layout . Will definitely play here again
Great course and price. We waited a bunch on the back 9 but course was great. I've that GA has state parks with camping and golf!
Love the course
I enjoyed the layout. Lots of doglegs. The greens are huge, undulating, true and medium speed. The fairways are hard and the ball will run.
Great Layout With Fast Firm Greens
This was my first time playing this course. I was supposed to play with three ladies, but they said I might prefer to play with the threesome of fellas in front of them. I joined the guys, and boy was that a mistake. They were elderly gentlemen, and although they were very nice, they were terribly slow. After three holes, they waved the threesome of ladies through on four. By the time we completed five, we were already TWO holes behind the ladies. Also, there were numerous groups stacking up behind us. At this point, I left the guys and played on. When I got to ten, I asked the ladies if I could join them. They gracefully agreed after I told them of my dilemma. The back nine was so pleasurable, and I finally got to enjoy the golf course without worrying about our group playing faster. The ladies were knowledgeable, and played right along. Couldn't ask for better playing partners. One word of caution about back pin placements is yardage. Do not play to the yardages as balls will run off due to the firm and fast greens. Play to the center, and be happy with a par. Really liked the layout.
New greens
This is a great course for the average golfer that is very well maintained in a state park. Very rural location, but has just replaced the greens (Feb. 2022) and the fairways are in good shape. As a senior, female golfer this is an especially user-friendly course. Great layout, scenery and wild life. Nice pro shop, but just snacks available.
Worth the Drive
My wife and spend February in St. Simons Island. I saw this course on Golfnow and even though it was an hour drive away, decided to give it a try for the first time last year. I enjoyed the course and decided to go again. The condition of the course has gotten much better - especially the greens and greenside bunkers. All of the green complexes have been redone and the results are impressive. So make the drive and enjoy this course. And stop by Scott's Barbeque in Waynesville for amazing food.
Could make the experience above average
The greens are in great shape. Fairways not bad for this time of year. Tee boxes rough on several holes. Bunkers were I. Good shape. Lady working in clubhouse was rude. There was little to eat. A hot dog would have been nice. When I asked at the turn for a hot dog it was obvious not only was there none at that time but she wasn’t putting any on the rotisserie. The worst part was the grounds crew followed us through the front nine. On ten we asked if they could stay back. I suggest if they are going to cut greens mid day to start at 18 and work backwards. That way you only have to deal with the noise once
