Lakes Golf Course at Laura Walker State Park
About
Situated at the northern edge of the Okefenokee Swamp, the Lakes Golf Course at Laura S. Walker State Park is home to an abundance of native plants and wildlife including alligators, gopher tortoises, and blue herons. True to its name, the course has three large lakes and the layout is routed through numerous varieties of oak trees and palmettos. The course is as challenging as it is scenic with heavily undulating greens, water hazards, and strategically placed bunkers. There is also subtle but tricky, links-style mounding defining each of the fairways and landing areas. The course strikes a nice balance of player-friendly and difficult holes but be prepared for the final holes on both the front and back nine, they are considered the toughest on the golf course.

Awesome State Course
Great course fun to play. the Greens are as good as you will find on any private golf course if not better. Very friendly staff a couple of challenging holes on front 9 that runs through the swampy section of the course.
#1 is a welcoming Par 4 that allows you to start your round teeing off with a long iron or small wood and leave yourself a wedge in.
#2 has a large bunker that covers the right side fairway but if you can carry your driver 240 from the whites or 260 from the blacks you can hit a fade over it and leave a wedge in.
#3 is a short par 3 but be ware of the big gator in the pond on the left.
#4 is a very long par 5 that you will be happy to reach in 3 shots, there is a long waste area down the right side of the fairway that you can play from very easily.
#5 is the first dog leg right with a large bunker to carry if you want to cut the corner but if you bail out with a fad its the widest fairway on the course and you will have a short iron into a fun green with a big slope.
#6 is a long par 3 that has a massive slopping hill from back to front and a feeding area on the front left.
#7 is a drivable par 4 where the more you take on the tree line on the right the better chance your ball has of bouncing onto the green.
#8 is a short par 5 that makes you be precise with your run out distance on your drive if you stay in the fairway you can reach this massive green in 2 shots.
#9 is a long par 4 with the narrowest fairway on the course and plenty of water to swallow a a wayward fade of the tee Find the fairway hit a long iron in make your par and it will feel like a birdie.
#10 is a straight away par 4 that leaves you a short iron into a forgiving green letting you know that this back 9 is going to have a lot more opportunities for birdie.
#11 is a Par 5 that is reachable in 2 and lets you know you are headed into the sandy basin of the course on the back 9.
#12 is another drivable par 4 with bunkers in the center of the fairway, If you can carry them with your tee shot your ball will bound towards the front edge of the green leaving you a stress free up/down.
#13 is a par 5 that is a second shot hole. once you have found the fairway off the tee there is a large group of oaks blocking the green and only narrow layup area to the right of them. You have to decide to go over them or hit a wedge out to the right leaving a short iron in.
#14 is a straight away Par 3 with a bunker on the left of the green find the middle and 2 putt.
#15 is a short par 4 dog leg right but not drivable either layup straight ahead with a long iron or hybrid of the tee or try to fade a drive around the single oak tree and the curve to leave a short pitch in.
#16 the last drivable par 4 the fairway is very narrow on the curving dog leg left which makes it difficult to place a drive with a mid iron down the right side it really entices you to hit drive straight at the green.
#17 is a very difficult par 3 that lets you know this finish is going to be given to you large raised green with a massive bunker on the right side and a very steep back to front green slope.
#18 par 4 that dog legs left around the large pond in the center of the course going back to the club house the more of the corner you take on the shorter you club will be into this raised green with a hidden bunker down the back left slope.
Hidden Gem!
Well laid out course, with well managed greens and fairways.
Price difference at the course on advanced purchase
Went on Tee Off and saw a price listed at $50 per person plus taxes, I purchased 2 which totaled $108. At the course the attendant said that price was not allowed. The price they was $127 for two plus taxes. The attendant said they have called golf pass several times and said their prices were different.
We drove 1-1/2 hour to play, so I didn’t argue. Started the round got to hole 11. The sky opened up and started raining and lightning. No horn sounded so we took cover in one of those bathrooms. We hunkered down for 2 hours. The rain lightened up we looked at the corse heading back out. The course was flooded and there were lakes everywhere and water standing on the greens. We made our way back to the clubhouse. I inquired about a rain check and they said no rain check. I asked if they knew the course was unplayable they you could play if you wanted to. I laughed and said I don’t the I want to play on a course that was unplayable. We packed up and it continued raining for the rest of the afternoon. What a shame.
No 5-somes.
Course was in perfect condition and the staff was friendly and helpful as usual. The big and only problem was the 5-some that had the whole course backed up.I like to play ready golf and keep up with the group ahead. Everyone behind the 5-some had to wait on every shot including us.
Nice course
Even tho there are dry conditions course was in very good shape. Constant grooming being performed, faster greens than most.
Amazing
Course is in great shape, greens roll true. Staff is wonderful, as always.
