Sea Palms in December
Playing in December can be iffy in the south, FL excluded. But today it was upper 70's with 8-10mph wind. I would say perfect for playing golf!
First time playing the course, playing after lunch. The course has plenty of OB stakes and some water, but not unfair - fairways are wide enough that most balls should be in play, but I did hit 3 OB balls and shot 84. Not the courses fault but my swing - did play from the back tees.
The biggest cons I would say are two: Greens were inconsistent with the putting green. Putting green was much slower than on course. Bunkers were inconsistent as well. Some bunkers were like hitting off of hard clay. So be careful and dig in to get a feel of what is under your ball.
Over all it was a good day and the course played as what you see in front of you. Not many hidden angles. I would say most greens slope back to front so keep the ball in front of the pin and not go long or you will have a pitch over the ridge to a down hill slope. Greens were not overly fast, especially up hill. With greens inconsistent, those down hill putts can get away more than you think.
Fast greens!
Just enough challenge to make you fight the decision to go for it. Wide fairways we all wish we could hit every time. Overall great golf, thanks golf now!
Sea Palms Golf Club
I love to play this course. It is sneaky long and very forgiving fairways. A lot of fun and pace of play has always been good.
Great layout
Enjoy th layout. This time of the year the over seed is coming in nicely
Sea Palms golf adventure
Definitely got my moneys with. Hit my share of sand traps and found the water twice. Highlight of the day: I made a birdie putt on # 9 probably 75 ft toward the water and 3 tiers above the hole.
Where’s the beef?
The thing is, ladies & gents, when one tries to clear one’s mind, apprehend serenity, and, heck, have a little fun while he’s at it, well, one expects hospitality to come in tow. You’d think that’s par for the course, eh? But hospitality sounds quite a lot like hostility, especially to the pro’s assistant. A hair-trigger personality is great for rabbit hunting. Not so great when you’re on the 18th green and young Eric tried to kick you off the course for playing too slowly—a four hour fifteen round. That said, there are some redeeming qualities. Namely, the multiplicity of divots in every tee box forces yoga upon you. I mean, i haven’t had a lumbar stretch like that in, heck, ever. So what’s the takeaway? Glad you asked. Stay away.
Great!!
This was one of the greatest rounds of golf I’ve played in many years. The staff and course managers are great! I would recommend this course to anybody!
Much improved
Course was renovated 2 yrs ago and is much improved. Obvious that the superintendent knew his trade - greens were great!
Based on a recent experience at this club, I would have to agree on the personality issue. One of the staff there was short and abrasive to myself and my wife.
That being said, Rick (pro) is a genuinely nice man and he is no included in this review.
Others need to take notice and act with some courtesy. Your overpriced course is certainly not that good, so stop trying to emulate Sea island already.
