Don't overpay
Don't pay more than $50. First time golfing in 5 months so OK course for first time out. Worth playing if staying at the resort, otherwise don't bother. Starter and older man in pro shop were great.
Fun, Affordable
The staff was excellent. Greeted us immediately as we pulled into the parking lot and gave us the full lay of the land. Driving range is not convenient and PAY attention when crossing Frederica Road. Cars do not automatically stop even with the crossing light. Fairways were not in very good shape - very dry. Greens were great though. Very fast. Overall course layout was fun and the finishing holes are beautiful and challenging. For the money, it's work playing.
Felt ripped off
We booked through golf now for 18 holes with cart.
The resort has an 18 hole regulation course and a executive par 34 course. We assumed we would play the 18 hole course . We were told to play the executive course and then the front nine of the 18 hole course.
The executive course was in terrible condition. The tee boxes were mostly dirt as we're some of the fairways. Many of the greens had some sort of black fungus and generally poorly maintained. The course was not busy.
NO Go
Arrived 1 Hr early. course was closed because of frost waited 1 1/2 hr .. in coffee shop.still not open and told it would be another 2 hr delay and at that they said we could cancel bur the deposit of $23.00 was not refunded.
Great Greens
The course was in great condition compared to previous years. The greens were especially good. All the traps have new sand and were very uniform. With the Azaleas in full bloom this enhanced our experience. We got stuck behind the men's league which slowed us down but we still finished in less than four hours which is acceptable. Would definitely return.
Sea Palms Feb 2017
Course was in ok condition, tee boxes were pretty beaten up, greens were nice, fast, over read breaks, bunkers had nice sand, rough wasn't fully grown, course built between different types of residential units. Only major issue was the 18th, workers were digging a ditch so they moved all tees to the front tee box but workers continued to work as we were teeing off right in front of us about 15 feet to the front right of the tee box. I don't know why they didn't just build a temporary tee box after the ditch the workers were building. Besides that, everyone was nice, small pro shop but friendly people. Good value for the money.
Great shape, value, people
Smooth greens, generous fairways, good sand in bunkers. Flat, easy to walk if you want, no goofy holes, a few doglegs but mostly straightforward. Staff was friendly in shop, bar has reasonable prices on food and drinks. Terri and John in the restaurant are great! I'll go there again, especially with the deal i got here.
First time St Simons
Course was in very good shape. Challenging layout with lots of fairway and green side sand. Yardage book was helpful on doglegs and locating fairway bunkers. Great February golf.
Course Management
Our foursome was started behind two other foursomes. Once we left the first tee, we never saw a marshall on the course. Our foursome had to wait on every hole for the group in front of us. We had to quit after 5 hours and only 14 holes. When we drove forward past 15-18, we discovered that the group that was two foursomes ahead of us had two completely empty holes open in front of them. They had made no effort to let anyone play throught them in the five hours we were out there.
Nice
The last several times playing this course the greens have been in excellent condition . Smooth and fast. Other than the bunkers being in need of more sand the course played great!
Practice range closed
Enjoyed golf day after Thanksgiving. Beautiful day, full tee times and moved around better than anticipated....4hrs.10 mins.
Had a good lunch at on site restaurant. No beverage cart.
Would return...greens were fast and in good shape. Practice range closed since hurricane.
Needs significant improvement
It has been a while since I played here as we are usually in St Simons just for vacation or holidays. I booked the tee time on Golf now thinking that I would grab a quick round while visiting. Upon check-in I was informed that the practice range has not been repaired since the hurricane so there is no place to warm up other than the putting green. Upon checking in with the starter, he informed us that walk ups and Golf Now had completely screwed up the tee sheet and that they were running at least 30 minutes behind. He suggested that we go play the West 9 as those holes were wide upon and it was going to be a challenge to get on the regular 18 as booked. We obliged for the sake of timeliness. We quickly learned that the West 9 was in horrible shape and could easily be compared to a goat ranch. Additionally, the pace of play was incredibly slow with every flight playing as a single and many walking players just jumping on to the course. We were later informed that these were local members that felt entitled as there are no rangers on the course at all. Once we made the turn and got on to the regular course things were much better. These holes were in much better shape and played OK.
They have a lot of operational challenges to overcome and staffing is minimal so don't expect a lot of help. Although the people that you speak with are pleasant, the operation is far from smooth or effective and certainly not efficient. I would definitely think twice before spending the time or money to play this course again anytime soon.
Good condition
In comparison with last April both fairways and greens have been improved substantially.
Well done!
Great time
Everything was asome except for the range
GREAT COURSE FOR THE MONEY
GREEN IS GOOD SHAPE/FAIRWAYS GOOD/SOME INTERESTING HOLES/ EXCELLENT FOR THE PRICE/CLOSE TO HOME
This course has really come back!
I've played Sea Palms many times, and it's in the best condition I've seen in a long time. They really had issues with with many of the greens caused by so much rain earlier this year, but they are back rolling smooth and look good! They are a bit slow, but it's been so hot my guess is that they can't cut then too much. Fairways are great and are wide open for the long hitter in you!
I hope the next project is the cracked cart paths, then this course will move into the "gem" category!
