About Kapalua Golf Resorts (Maui)
Kapalua is a resort community on the northwest side of Maui that is home to a collection of luxury resorts and 36 holes of golf. Options include the Ritz-Carlton Kapalua, Montague Kapalua, and The Kapalua VIllas, which offer one-, two- and three-bedroom vacation villas with ocean or golf views. Kapalua also has tennis and pickleball as well as a small village with shops and dining. Surfers also enjoy the beaches on this spectacular part of the Maui isle. The Plantation Course at Kapalua, recently tweaked by original designers Bill Coore & Ben Crenshaw, is a PGA Tour host course and considered among the best courses in Hawaii. The Bay Course, meanwhile, has the only coastal par-3 on the island, and features a routing that goes past the famous Honolua General Store. Dining ranges from the taverna bar with italian fare, the Plantation House restaurant at the Plantation Clubhouse and the Bay Cafe, located at the old Bay Course clubhouse below Outrigger Villas reception.Facts

Maui golf is fun.
Played with two sets of strangers and had a blast playing Kapalua Bay course.
Great layout and beautiful views.
Would highly recommend to all levels of golfers.
An act of kindness
I was fresh of a plane the day before and suffering from the travels from cold snowy wisconsin. I went to the driving range as i figured i had little or no chance to get a tee time with out advanced notifications. As i was practicing on the range a fellow was hitting balls next to me and his swing was “grooved” compared to mine. I asked if he had been playing here long and he stated he was the clubhouse “pro” . Well as that explained his well crafted baby draw which i envied, he asked me where i was from and i explained my situation. He then called on a walk-in talkie and had a van pick me up and the next thing i was up the hills and on the course. Got paired up with some other fun folks and had a truly memorable round. I dream about that experience often. Would love to run into that pro again and thank him for some real hospitality Maui style.
Gorgeous views and great course
I am an 18 handicapper and enjoy this course very much. The Women’s tees are a bit long on the par fours but in general a very playable course. Greens, tee boxes and fairways are in good shape and it’s a beautiful course. Staff is exceptional. I purchased a package for 3 rounds in 7 days with free same day replays. It also includes a 1/2 hour lesson at their academy. I always play very early to avoid the heat, wind and slow play:)
Best In Hawaii
This beauty offers challenging elevation changes and striking views of the azure Pacific! The firm fast greens will challenge the best putter!
Best In Hawaii
This magnificent golf course offers some of the best views and course conditions that can be found. It’s all about the elevation and dramatic changes from tee to green! The firm greens will challenge the best putters skills! Just when you think you’ve seen it all there comes another dramatic view of the azure pacific! Don’t miss this must play beauty!
Stunning round
My wife and I played the Kapalua Bay Course recently and we had the most positive experience. From the time we dropped off our clubs to finishing our round/returning our golf cart, we were treated like special guests. All staff members had the Aloha spirit and everyone had such a friendly and positive outlook of all the Maui golf courses we played during our numerous visits to Maui.
The course and facility were immaculate, practice range, chipping area, practice green, tee boxes, fairways, bunkers, and greens were in outstanding condition. Pace of play was good (4 hrs 5 mins) and the new cart GPS was accurate (compared yardages to my laser range finder). If you get a chance, play this course. The views were fabulous, conditions great, staff friendly, and the 17th par 3 hole had the most beautiful ocean views around. Our only disappointment was the Plantation Course was closed for renovation during our stay (scheduled to reopen Nov 23, 2019).
5 YEAR NEWLYWED ANNIVERSARY 1996
course at Kapalua was a dream come true in 1996 for our 5th wedding Anniversary. We just celebrated our 28th Anniversary in 2019 andThe Plantation have two children. I remember it was a sunny and windy day. We could see the slow moving sets of waves moving against the rows of pineapples. My best shot as a beginner golfer was making my tee shot over a small ravine. It was quite exciting and my husband who was an avid golfer cheered me on ! After all , I was knew I would be a golf widow when we got married so I took lessons to learn how to hit this "small pea into a small hole" of a game.
As we finished our round of golf, we watched the sunset and drove our cart down a steep hill to the warm glowing lights of the clubhouse. We stayed for a great steak dinner. We both felt lucky to have played such a spectacular course such as the Plantation course.
Memorable
With the "possible" exception of Pebble Beach, my 3 rds at the Plantation have been the most memorable rds of my life! The course translates oh so well from TV to real life. The wind is there, but the course was designed with the trade winds in mind, so it works! The course MORE than stands alone, without the views, but the views put it way over the top. DO NOT MISS IT!
Kapalu Bay Course - Don't Pass it Up
The Plantation Course was closed for renovations this time visiting Maui so it gave me a perfect opportunity to play the "other" Kapalua gem. The staff was fantastic and made my wife and me feel so welcome. The starter was a hoot and gave us a full set of instructions and suggestions with a biting wit and sense of humor. The course did not disappoint. The greens were perfect and the pace of play was remarkably quick for a weekend round. I will definitely make the Bay Course part of my schedule on my next trip. I am looking forward to playing the renovated Plantation Course, as well.
Don't pass this up. It is a memorable round of golf
First time on Maui
Beautiful golf course. Good test for an average player such as myself. Ocean views incredible. Would recommend for anybody to play at least once. Plantation course was closed at the time I played or would have played there, but was not disappointed on this course.
Moonlight and Molokai
The pro said he would put me out early. Never considered Moonlight. A full moon, the straits of Molokai and a pod of whales awaited me. It was a ethereal experience that will never be forgotten. A magical course and a magical experience.
AWESOME Bucket list worthy
One of my top 5 courses and I've played all over the world.
The views are spectacular, trade winds so much fun, layout imagination is second to none and the architect gives you room to negotiate the tricky wind and incredible hills you will encounter. Hit it long and straight and you can score well...get a little off on either and be ready to simply enjoy an incredible piece of God's creation and stop counting strokes. FANTASTIC!!
I'd play it again.
We played the Bay Course on a very rainy and cold day. Possibly the rainiest and coldest day in a number of years. We enjoyed the experience in spite of the conditions. It's a fun, fair layout with lots of ocean views.
Dream course, dream location
We have always wanted to play the Plantation Course at Kapalua because of the years spent watching the pros play their opener on Maui! We were able to play it in twilight time but arrived early to check out the pro shop which didn't disappoint! We were paired up with a single and off we went, down the first hole. Let's face it, three-quarters of Kapalua is on the slope, either up or down but who cares, when one has spectacular views on so many of the holes?! Fairways were in decent shape as were the greens. Weather was almost perfect....and unusually calm. Course provided good challenge for both of us and having watched the year starter tournaments, we were familiar with which holes sloped and therefore, where to start your shot. Can't imagine walking the course though and very glad having a cart. All in all, a wonderful round and one off our bucket list now!
One of the best
This is a magnificent course with great ocean views and better playability for the average golfer than the more robust plantation course. The new hole layouts create a fantastic finish with signature hole par three now number 17 hole. Truly one of the best courses in the world.
Kapalua Bay Course
Great course layout with challenging holes and great course maintenance. Staff was friendly and course allows junior golfer free with paid adult in the afternoon
Best experience of Maui
Just to put it simply do yourself a favor and book a round here. I was hesitant at first to book due to the price but at the end of the day I was glad I did because it turned into one of my favorite Maui experiences which is saying a lot since I had an amazing trip that included staying at the Ritz and meals at Mamas fish house and Merrimans just to give an example of the experiences I’m putting it up there with. The course was in immaculate shape and the views are spectacular on every hole. The course is perfect mix of fun and challenging. The club rental was also fantastic, they offer all the newest Titleist gear and Scotty putters.
Wow. Low quality, poor management, high price tag.
Really awful experience. Beautiful scenery. Scored decent. But the management was a disaster, course was in rough shape, and beyond slow play. Didn’t have cart or clubs ready. Made me re-enter all the info they gathered at booking. They forgot to give me the balls I purchased, so they sent someone back to get them, meanwhile sent out another group directly in front of us and sandwiched is halfway between two groups, creating a 4 hour mess. Harassed by another golfer midway through the round and Marshall refused to handle by letting us move to another slot to get away from the harassment because they were "full” for the next couple days. Really, really expensive to boot. Pass on this one and find a course hungry for business. Hard to have a bad experience in Maui but they managed to do it. Low point of the Maui visit so far..
Fun course with great views
The views on the Bay Course are worth the price. Generous fairways, grainy greens, and be aware of the ocean effect. Do not leave yourself above the hole on when you are down grain and toward the ocean , ie #18 The new routing if fine, you finish on 2 of the prettiest holes on the island ( 16 and 17 ).
I don’t where you usually play, but if you didn’t like this piece of heaven, you’re not a true golfer- period!
I played the course twice 2 weeks after you and it was in beautiful shape. I have a hard time believing they turned it around that quickly. The cost was mid range for Hawaii golf and the staff was great, not that they couldn't have an off day. Your statement that the course was in rough shape, however, leads me to believe you have ulterior motives.
