Surprise
I was confused by name, and hoped to play down by the ocean. My mistake, but easy to make. Greens were in great condition, just too slow. Fairways were better than most public courses, not country club quality.
Worth playing
We enjoyed playing this course. Not difficult and good for a beginner to average player.
Good course, greens are molasses
The course is a good one to have a nice day of golf. Not overly challenging but fun for all levels. The greens are so slow you almost need a driver to make a 10 foot putt. My only issue with the course.
We enjoyed our round
Friendly, helpful staff. Course was in good shape. A forgiving course for the casual golfer. Found a Golf Now special for $98 green fees, which was fair and reasonable I the land of exorbitant resort golf fees. We live locally and will definitely be back as soon as we have our HI drivers license and qualify for local rates.
The greens are very slow and the traps have gravel instead of sand and are inconsistent.
Fun, Well kept Course, great people
First, Angie, the marshal/concierge got us off to a great start. Our cooler was set up with ice and four water bottles. We got tees and were allowed to hit balls for free at the driving range until or tee time. Angie offered to let us start early but we decided to hit some balls. This course has wide fairways. There is water but easy to avoid. There are a lot of sand bunkers and volcanic rock but again, easy to avoid due to wide fairways. The pace of play was great on Friday. Finished the front nine with a twosome in 80 minutes. My only minor complaint about the course was the condition of the sand bunkers. All bunkers in Hawaii are more like small gravel. I don’t get it. You’re in Hawaii. There should be plenty of sand. Also the restaurant/bar on hole 5 although convenient had rude staff. Not sure if they are affiliated with the course.
Good choice for mid range course
Golf in Hawaii for visitors is pretty expensive. The higher priced ones are that way because they are in fantastic shape and or are visually stunning. Waikoloa Village is just a step down from those. The layout is very good and provides every level of skill a chance to score. There are a few patchy spots in some fairways and the bunkers seem like gravel instead of sand. However the greens are pretty good and roll true. The staff is great, carts are peppy (no GPS though) and food cart service is regular. They charge for range but a small is only $3 and balls are in good shape. Overall a good round on a good course.
