Course is overpriced at full price
course was in good shape. greens were resort quick. overall I good experience for the price. They could use gps on carts.
The course is beautiful!
Eagle Ridge - North is my favorite course and has been and has been since it opened.
Don't expect a smile if you came through golfnow
I've played the North Course at Eagle Ridge more than 30 times over the years as part of a package, as a property owner and now through golfnow. The reason I used golfnow was because the regular rates and even property owner rates are a little steep for the course. C'mon, no bent grass tees or fairways. The General has those and the rates are even higher though
I have always loved the North course more than the South. It's fair but still tough.
Worst part is we get there about 50 minutes early since we had a nice breakfast at the Inn. We pull up and the greeter who takes our clubs says are you the 11:15 time. We say yes how did you know? Because there aren't any other players between now and 11:15 and not too many the rest of the day.
We figure let's check in, putt around and get off a little early. Maybe we can rent a boat after golf on the lake.
Nope. We are promptly told that they cannot check us in until 11am since we are from golfnow. But I'm a property owner how about that. Nope.
While I'm waiting a twosome finishes 9 and is on their way to 10 when the golfer jokes with the starter " having a good time?" The starter says " well you are a little behind the time we'd like to see for the front nine." Wow.
Hey are we having fun at our job? If not, quit. There's no one on the course. I swear I saw this twosome and a single all day and when we were driving back to my house I saw a few groups on the course.
You really need to A) Like your customers and accommodate them. If I booked through golfnow I'm still a customer and potential customer. I decided to buy a place out there after playing the courses. They treated people much differently and prices were more in line with other courses not 135 miles from home 18 years ago.
B) Lower the price for everyone and twilight is 3pm not 4pm almost everywhere else. If you have more golfers you will increase revenue even at lower prices. You will also increase merchandise and food and drink sales. This isn't rocket science.
Best Golf In North Western Illinois
Eagle Ridge in Galena is probably the best golf in Illinois only thing that comes close is Wever Ridge near Peoria. With four courses there is a variety to keep you busy. If your going to take on "The General" you better bring you A game !!
Picturesque
What this nine hole course lacks in length, it makes up for that in tight fairways, very soft sand in the bunkers, and sloped greens. If you have the money to spend, it is a beautiful venue for young people and couples looking to play nine holes. The hard core players will be at one of the three other eighteen hole Eagle Ridge courses.
Great Scenic course for the money
This nine hole course is a great course. It is in excellent condition and very scenic. Greens have quite a bit of undulations to them but not overly difficult. Bring your camera for this course. The first par 3 on the course is about 150 yards from back tee and the tee box is about 80 feet above the green. I decided to play this course twice in one day so I could have 18 holes played.
Even though it is a short course from the back tees, it still presents challenges.
I would highly recommend this course.
Great!
Played on a Thursday morning for only $35 with cart. Course is fantastic! Only thing that is odd is that they still don't have gps in the carts. Wasn't a deal breaker. In a way it is kinda nice. Reminds me of the good old days of golf.
one of the most beautiful courses in the country. First class condition and service
We got a great price through Golf now and drove all the way from Chicago to play this course. It was worth it. A course that gives the impression of being a brute, but any level of golfer can enjoy this course if they choose the right tees.
nice tight course not long
The golf course was nice, the pricing policy is crazy.I tried to play course the day before, but they wanted 59 dollars to play, nothing was on golfnow,Nwxt day I paid 11 dollars
This General is 5 Stars!
All of the Eagle Ridge courses are fantastic and fun to play, but The General remains the crowning glory of Galena. I played The General many years ago and finally made a trip back specifically to play this course. Known for its difficulty, The General provides tremendous experience from all of the tee boxes. However, if you are visiting Galena and are not a serious golfer, stick to the North and East courses because the General and the South courses are far more difficult. The views are stunning, the greens rolled perfectly and were very fast which I enjoy (some may not) and we played early so the round was fast. No hole is alike with undulating fairways and dense brush, but if you are able to hit the fairway you are left with a chance at par, but birdies are rare. Some holes plunge hundreds of feet down into the forest, some bend around some water and through limestone bluffs. We played at 7am and morning sun was just spectacular...bring your camera and your A-game, you'll need it. This is truly one of the best courses in the Midwest, and perhaps the country. The General is well worth the price and it is a round you will never forget. This is golf.
Great Course
The General was a great course with lots of variety in holes. Only complaint was that greens were a little slow. Oh and plan to bring a couple extra balls
great course
beautiful views challenging course looking foward to coming here again
challenging
this course is very challenging. the views are awesome i'm looking forward to golfing here again this was my 1st time playing this course.
If you love elevation changes then this is the place for you!
Great mix of left to right and right to left holes as well as downhill and uphill shots. Greens roll very true and hold really well. Some of the tees were a bit over used but overall this is a great golfing experience.
At 2461 yds (men's tees) not long but some challenging holes.
Many elevation changes and fairway bunkers plus hazards which cross the fairways make the course fun and interesting.
Great course very challenging
Great course very challenging golf now easy to use
Great course with a view!
Eagle Ridge North is a great challenging course, that winds around the beautiful Galena landscape. Reading the subtle breaks on these large greens is tough, but if you can play it several times I think you will find out where not to hit it.
A very challenging experience.
The course setting is wooded with narrow, hilly fairways.
Great course and very well maintained, the staff was very friendly and helpful.
we really enjoyed the course a must play much easier than the General. great course for couples golf.
all you could ask for in a golf course
each hole is appealing. great variety in the topography. hills and valleys. good greens.
