The Wisp Resort’s 172 acres of ski terrain are heaven for winter-sports enthusiasts, but this resort offers so much more year-round. It is an outdoor playground for all ages thanks to Deep Creek Lake and an endless array of mountainous adventures: canopy tours, segways, mountain biking, a mountain coaster, disc golf, 36 holes of regular golf, gem mining, pontoon boat tours, whitewater rafting and flatwater kayaking. The Fantasy Valley and Lodestone golf courses both boast soaring scenery. Lodestone, designed by Hale Irwin, features some of the largest greens on the East Coast.Facts

Resort course
Rain fell the night before I played the course, plus a little rain for the first 2 holes. The course did not drain well. The middle of the fairways stayed very wet and unplayable.. The bunkers were playable but need a lot of work. The road to the course is gravel and not in the best shape, and the clubhouse is a bit on the small size. For the good, the green complexes were some of the best I have seen. The course layout is just beautiful. This is a great $79.00 course not the $119.00 normal price.
Course in Poor Shape
The course is not maintained at all and in very poor conditions. Practically the bunkers are like concrete and you cannot hit a ball out of them.
It was a tight course to start with and with the rough not being maintained, you either lose the ball easily or you end up hitting a bad shot from the thick rough.
Pay a little extra and play some of the other courses - you will be much happier, especially if you are only in Deep Creek Lake for a few days
They have moved around the holes so much that my Garmin could not keep up and never got a proper reading
worth the ride
While I live more than an hour away from this course, the ride there was definitely worth it. The course is challenging and it will require a variety of shots to score well. The conditions were excellent with the glaring exception of the sand traps (technically, they'd have to have SAND in them to call them that) but given all that the course offers, one could overlook that shortcoming. It is a good layout with some tight fairways. A good challenge.
Great course!
The course is in great shape!
This is easily one of the most scenic courses in the area.
Tough green complexes with lots of undulation. If you aren’t on the right level tho, look out!
Greens rolled quick and true and would hold an approach shot.
Would definitely recommend!!
One of MDs Best
Finally played when it was firm fast
Play the correct tees
Greens huge super slick if wrongsided
Super layout

Will be back

Beautiful course. Wonder deal. Nicest employees.
Played this course 5 times in last 4 weeks. Had a great outstanding time. My 4somes consisted of a mix of ten very enjoyable and happy friends. Everyone enjoyed the beautiful somewhat difficult course. The course personnel were some of the friendliest I have ever seen. The course has a few soft areas in the fairways do to rain and ground water. But course is very playable. The greens are very smooth and undulating. Not easy by any means, until you become familiar with the course. In 5 rounds I went from shooting a 99 down to an 82. I would recommend this course to anyone who enjoys being tested. I can never understand a golfer complaining of a course being to difficult. The group your playing with are all playing the same course at the same conditions. We did notice a few ball marks from previous golfers not repairing. We always repair more than we make as most golfers should. We know there has been a good bit of rain, but when it gets drier the sand traps need a little raking.
Great course
This is a great course for the area however make sure you’re hitting them good because this course is also fairly difficult with the tight fairways
Nice but very dry and in need of considerable tlc
I’m sure at one time this was a premier course but has fallen on some difficult times. The course is challenging and attractive but the fairways were arid and the greens inconsistently watered. Overall a good value and pace was excellent.
Lodestone July 19
A previous review talked about how dry the course was, but failed to mention that most courses in the area are the same. The course cannot control the weather. HOWEVER, the conditions did not match the price paid. We even got a hot deal, and the conditions still did not match the price. I cannot imagine paying more than $60 to play this course. The bunkers are being raked, but not maintained. So, there a lot of grass growing in the bunkers under the lips. We played them as waste areas. This course is fun, and the greens are a match. Chances for lost balls is very high. I would play this course again, but will not pay more than $60.
Lodestone
Best course around don’t see anyone else unless you want to
Great greens
Liked the course the fairways and greens were in great shape. The sand traps were bad so we just stayed out of them. We got a great deal on golf now so can’t complain about the price. I would play it again.
Awesome views
Love playing this course! The views of the mountains and lake are awesome. Be sure to bring a few extra balls in tour bag unless you can hit them straight and long all day!
Completely disappointed!
Since it opened, we have made it a point to play every year and it was one of our favorite courses. This trip: It took 2 ½ hours to play our first 9. A large percent of the fairways were dead/ burnt out. The sand traps are being overgrown and not maintained at all. The heat index was over 90 degrees and there was no water at all on the course, and no cart/ beverage person. We left after 9 holes.
Lodestone used to be pristine and amazing. Now, it does not deserve it’s ranking and cannot justify the high greens-fee cost. Negligence and poor course maintenance has ruined what was a fantastic course. We used to refer friends to go, but we won’t be back.
