Black Lake Conference Center
About Black Lake Conference Center
Not everybody realizes that the Black Lake Conference Center - also known as the Walter and May Reuther UAW Family Education Center owned by the United Auto Workers - is open to the general public. It was built in the 1970s on roughly 1,000 acres of remote, idyllic property in northern Michigan. Accommodations range from 228 rooms in the Lodge to a selection of condos, apartments and camp sites. With a massive auditorium, Black Lake is perfect for conferences, retreats, weddings, family vacations and reunions. Rees Jones added the award-winning Black Lake Golf Club in 2000. Other recreation includes exploring the surrounding forests hiking and biking or fishing in Burt Lake, Mullett Lake or its namesake Black Lake, teeming with walleye, bass and perch.Facts

Black lake golf course
Pace of play was really slow. It was league day so that could have been why. Overall great course
Top-tier northern Michigan course
I have played many northern Michigan courses and Black Lake Golf Club is top-tier! Each hole is distinctive with five tee boxes for the appropriate challenge and maximum enjoyment. I will return again soon to play both the 18-hole engaging layout and the 9-hole short course. Staff are knowledgeable and ready to assist. Other amenities include a restaurant with a comfortable patio and attractive indoor seating and a range with short and long targets and a putting green.
Amazing!
Beautiful course! Hidden gem.
If you are in the area this is a must. They have an amazing stay and play package.
Check the website.
Black Lake Slow Play
One of the slowest rounds of my life - in excess of 5 hours and waited on every tee box, then again on every green approach shot.
Won't be going back.
First time visit.
Great value!! Heard about this place on a radio show and decided to check it out. Top notch everything, clubhouse, carts, staff and conditions. Course is long but not punishing. Hard but you can score.
Hidden GEM
Great up north course with no houses, up north Michigan beauty!
PACE: Was a single behind a morning league. With no one behind me I played 2 balls and went back and replayed holes. Could've finished in under 4 hours with no one ahead of me, but I enjoyed the morning.
CONDITIONS: Tee boxes were a bit scruffy. Maybe they were due to be cut the day after I played. Fairways, greens and bunkers were all in excellent shape. The sand it in the bunkers was excellent (as I was in enough of them). Though the greens did seem a little bit thicker/slower, given the overall condition of the course I'm sure they can get them running quicker without much effort.
STAFF: Got me paid and out on the course. The starter helped get me (single) out ahead of 3 4somes. Thank you for that!
VALUE: Definitely worth it!
LAYOUT: No blind tee shots, which I like... but most of the holes do feel claustrophobic. Perhaps cutting back a bit of the undergrowth would allow the player to hit a "hero shot" out of the trees.
AMENITIES: Best GPS I've ever had in a cart. Best cart too (not surprising given this course is owned by the UAW). You don't expect to remember how smooth carts stop and start from a round you played, but this time I do. They are great!

Great golf course... Some tough pins for a holiday, but the greens were rolling nicely... Lots of punch marks remained from the fall airation, but it's still early in the season.. Absolutely love to tee it up here! Staff is always friendly and professional... Highly recommend this as a must play!
Great woodland course
One of our favorites. We play it every spring on our golf trip. Layout is varied and interesting. Provides a challenge for all level of golfer.
Black Lake Golf Club is best value in all of Michigan!
My home course now since i retired. As good, and mostly better in all ways than two private clubs i belonged to in Southern MI!
