Black Lake Golf Club

This was a great course to play and was in great shape. My wife said this was a very lady friendly course.

This course was in excellent condition and was a great layout. It was very lady friendly.

I’m not sure why the fairways are so soggy and so brown. The grounds crew likes to drive out in the middle of the hole you are playing while you are playing it. There are areas in the middle of the fairways where carts have buried in and they are not repaired. There are countless ball marks on the greens. Some of the greens are blighted and you putt on black dirt. The bunkers are cement, and whoever is running the bunker rake is actively pulling sand out of the bunkers.

The lady in the pro shop was very professional, and helpful, but past that, the course was awful. 5.5 hour backed up round. I will not be returning to this course. For being “the pride of the UAW,” it shows the direction things are going with the union.

We had played 9 holes of Back Lake about 6 years ago and got rained out, so we decided to give it a try. The course is owned by the UAW and was in perfect condition. Lush fairways and beautifully manicured greens. We thoroughly enjoyed our round at this course. Also, great options for F&B in the clubhouse for after golf amenities. We picked a good day to play as the course was not busy and we played pretty quickly. The ice storms did not take a toll on this course and the trees were beautiful. It's a must play if you are doing a trip to Gaylord, MI. It's a bit of drive from downtown, but an easy drive. Took us about 45 minutes on great roads from downtown Gaylord. Would play this course again!

My first time playing in northern Michigan and if this is any indication of how golf courses play around here then I’ll be making more visits in the future. The course was beautiful and the layout was ideal with each hole separated and distinct from the others.

The greens were fair and well maintained. For a course this good I would have easily paid more but the GN deal made it even sweeter.

Teed off at 12:20. A couple foursomes let my twosome play ahead. Pace was excellent and course was in pristine shape.

Black Lake Golf Club is excellent. It is a great layout and it is an excellent value. I enjoyed myself very much and highly recommend this course to other players.

I live in Southwest Florida and spend the month of July in northern Michigan. Black Lake Golf Club is a course I visit each summer. Also included on my summer buck list is the classic Tom Watson favorite course--Belvedere Golf Club near Charlevoix. Black Lake is a challenging yet fair test of golf. No two holes are the same. You will NOT be bored or think "didn't I just play this hole?"" Tee boxes and greens are well maintained, and the fairways are in excellent condition. You will experience quite a few elevation changes during the round, and holes #9 and #18 feature uphill par 5s that challenge your stamina even though walking is not an option. Be prepared for a memorable golf experience complete with wildlife--I saw two deer and a pileated woodpecker during my round.

My home course is simply phenomenal. Tough challenge unless you are "on" all aspects of your game. Greens, fairways and tees r impeccable!

Challenging course plays longer than the scorecard. Challenging greens and approach shots especially. Play here…you won’t be disappointed
