About Garland Lodge and Golf Resort
Ron Otto was the driving force behind the rise of the Garland Lodge & Golf Resort in Lewiston. The former owned built the resort into a golfer's paradise designing all four courses from 1987-1995. Garland, a rare resort where all four courses operate out of one clubhouse, is home to more than 400 beds on property from hotel rooms to three- and four-bedroom villas, condos and cottages, as well as 1-2 bedroom villas. Of the three dining options, the Antlers Bar & Grill is the most popular.Facts

Monarch Course #11 Photo submitted by dbarberi2014 on 09/07/2014
long and challenging
Having played the much easier Reflection and Fountains courses the day before, this was a step up in terms of course length, difficulty and beauty. This and Swampfire are clearly the two best courses on the property.
Twenty Years Later Still A Great Course
Played Sunday afternoon & had the course to ourselves. Reflections is a great course not your traditional layout. Each nine has 3 par 3's, 3 par 4's & 3 par 5's. Just a fun & beautiful course. If your in the area, it's a definite stop.
Great Resort and Value
Nothing to complain about. Great place and value.
4 courses on property, all very good.
wonderful. going back

Great Resort and Value
Have nothing to complain about. Stayed for 3 days and didnt want to leave. 4 courses on the property and they were all excellent. Practice facilities great.
Going back for sure.
Wonderful
It was a beautiful day for golf. My husband and I enjoyed the round. We were not pushed nor were we held up. Just enough sand and water to keep it interesting.
Great course
The course was in great shape. But in the summer warm weather too buggy.
The associate in the pro shop was rude.
The gentleman at the carts when we got there was very nice & helpful. The starter was very nice.
The young man at the carts when we were done just stood there with hands in pocket and watched us unload the clubs and go to our car, he did ask if we had a good time. Not sure why he was there except to put the carts away.
Surprisingly underwhelming
I played this course at the end of August. It was an overcast day, but an otherwise perfect day for golf.
We had a late tee time to catch the "bargain" twilight rate of $60, but not so late that we were surprised to find that there was almost nobody else on the course. So pace was perfect, nobody behind us so we were able to play a mulligan or two (or seven) when needed. Nobody in front of us either, so we didn't have to wait at the tee box at all.
The disappointment really stems from two things: the lack of professionalism in the staff and the course maintenance. We were greeted by a less-than-zealous teenage girl who couldn't muster a smile when we checked in, followed by several 'cart boys' or whatever that didn't seem to notice us waiting for a cart for what seemed like forever. Finally spoke up and they barely spoke a word as they reluctantly got a cart ready for us.
Once we were on the course, the greens, teeboxes, and fairways were not kept like one would expect for an $85/round course. It was serviceable for the cheap public courses I normally play in Metro-Detroit, but not what I'd expect for a course held in such high regard. Sure, the scenery was nice, but that was just matter of circumstance due to the course's location.
All-in-all, a beautiful location with subpar maintenance made this a disappointing trip.
Great complex, very nice courses
This is a great place to play. Our group is thinking of returning but to stay on the grounds.
Beautiful course
Pristine conditions on whole course, park lime settings. Staff was very helpful and friendly since it was our first visit. Planning on playing the other courses soon.
Scenic course
First time playing here and it was outstanding. Perfect shape.. very challenging holes. My only problem with some holes I would have a perfect drive but the pin placements made it almost unreachable at times.
It wad beautiful especially the first couple holes were very pretty. The front nine was my favorite.
Great day at Garland
Excellent day playing one of the most beautiful golf courses in Northern Michigan. Spectacular colors everywhere, the course is in pristine condition. Shotmaking is required and target golf at its best.
Great value . User friendly
Wife and I played. I played from the White tees and found course a good challenge . My wife played from the Red tees. She enjoyed the terrain and was not pressured by the water. She enjoys golf but is not too good.
Good time except for all of the gnats buzzing around your face!
Overall we had a good time. Nice layout. it was a beautiful day around 75 and sunny, but all of the gnats were driving everyone in the group crazy, not sure there can be much to do to correct that problem. I think it was #13 needs a little attention on the cart path....thought we were going to sink into the swamp...it was very difficult to get to the tee box.
definitely a challenge
This course was rather wet - mud on the ball constantly. Course design is diabolical - there is some mean holes Course definitely has some teeth - Greens are fairly fast and undulation is prevalent. Condition was very good. Rough length around the greens is severe. Minimal margin for error. The course plays too tough for the average player - it wasn't fun.
Great course
Couldn't pass up the price. I haven't played the course in a number of years. Loved it.
Challenging Yet Fair
Played the Monarch course. There's water on 15 of 18 holes. The course was in good condition and the greens were holding nicely after a couple days of heavy rain. Booked my tee time through Golfnow.com and got a great deal. Overall had a good experience. Looking forward to playing their other 3 courses in the future.
Challenging but Fair!
The Monarch course at Garland is a beautiful, well kept course. This course challenges you with distance and subtle breaks in the greens but other than that it is really a fair golf course that can be had if your game is on. The greens roll very smooth, and roll at a speed that's not too fast and not too slow. The fairways are maintained well, but we played after a heavy rainfall so they were alittle mushy. The rough is long but nothing to challenging to hit out of. The hardest part about the course is that there is a water hazard located on almost every hole. Avoid the water, and you'll do well. Overall I was really happy with the course and would definetly go back. One of my favorites in Northern Michigan!
This course is has spactacular views.
All Garland courses are in great shape and when we have anyone from out of town they always say WOW what a nice course. One big problem though is the bugs are very annoying. I hope you are addressing this issue.
Perfect. Only improvement would be some senior tees, for us old guys.
