About Hawk’s Eye Golf Resort

Home owner
Ever since shanty creek bought this course it has trippled in price, the staff & grounds people who are the best ever are treated horribly by management . Shanty creek has made this course all about just making $$. They could care less about the customers, the concerns from the home owners , staff & grounds crew. Every one is quitting because of this. "Steve" wants everything his way & only his way. Many home owners on all the 4 courses who are a main source of advertising for the courses & bring customers in have concerns about changes that make no sense & he doesn't care. Many more bad reviews for these courses are going to occur. There are so many other courses around the area that are as beautiful & costs are much cheaper. Just saying. We've lived here & been a member since 2007. We really miss the guy who ran this place before. He would be really disappointed of what this course has become & what shanty creek has done to the moral here.
Welcome Addition to the Shanty / Schuss Course Collection
Played here multiple times before the course was acquired by Shanty / Schuss - we played 36 this day.
Fair but fun, the 17th par 5 is a real challenge.
Greens and fairways were great but the tee boxes were a bit overgrown and in need of some TLC.
Restaurant staff and beverage cart personnel were dealing with an out of service ice machine and had to wait on ice from the other courses created a bit of an issue with some players. Things like that can't be foreseen.
Course layout and condition was great. Tee boxes, fairway and greens well maintained. Clubhouse staff, and round starter were very congenial and cordial. Round started right on time.
Two issues with the round this day, the first being that the weather was quite warm mid- afternoon. Not being permitted to provide our own fluids on the course my group was contacted once by the beverage cart on the second hole. This didn't set well and on an above temperature day and dehydration began to set in during in the round.
Pace of play was also a bit slow ending the round @1/2 hour after the posted scheduled timeframe.
Quirky layout but I really enjoy playing it
I summer nearby and play this course often. The layout is a little confusing with a lot of travel between holes. The elevation changes make the cart paths through the woods down right dangerous when wet. Be careful. One or two “gimmicky” holes do not overshadow this really enjoyable, deep in the woods course full of wildlife. GREAT value, very challenging & well kept. The #9 hole is my favorite in all of Michigan, one that every golfer should get to play. I always look forward to playing this quirky, likable, beautiful course. Nice people. Good hot dogs. Go play it.
WOW, challenging!
First time playing and it’s not for the timid player! Course is in excellent shape but definitely a challenge and requires spot on tee shots and approaches to the greens! Pace was initially very slow but at the turn we were able to jump in front the threesome. We did not realize they had stopped for bathroom and food items so we asked if they were okay with our jump. Portapotties were clean! Definitely more than moderately difficult course but we had a great day!
Loved this course
Staff was excellent, course was awesome, Loved the rolling train, greens and tee boxes we're excellent, course was in nice shape even after couple days of rain.
This course never disappoints just the views alone is worth
Breathtaking views you will not regret playing this course
Great northern Michigan course
Great up north course with some elevation and expansive fairways. One of my favorite layouts, up there with Treetops and Boyne. Love the course.
Excellent Spring Golf Experience
Range was closed, but nice chipping and putting area. Carts were new and smooth, the course was in very good condition, including the huge greens. Busy with lots of players, but the pace of play was fine and well supervised. Tee signage directions were great and necessary. Beautiful views on a fine spring day! Challenging but fun, used every club in the bag.
Spectacular resort course
Decided to play this course at last minute while in the gaylord area.Golf now had a hotdeal midday on a sunday.Arrived about an hour and a half early after a 4 hour car ride to get there.Check in staff saw it was my wife and I as a two some. They had a larger group heading out in about 20 minutes and they asked if we wanted to go out before them or wait.We said we would go...THANK YOU!! We took off and were behind a 3 some that were in no rush.Course pace is 15min per hole and we ended up right on that time when finished.Might have been 15 to 30 min faster if not for the slower group in front. But to be honest this course is a feast for the eyes!! Simply stunning...hole after hole.Overall conditions were excellent...only knock is that Sandrtraps were a bit rocky.A decent amount of small to med pebbles were my only negative on this course.Greens were undulating and quick...a real challenge but fun and fair.A course at this price level...90.00 ish on weekends or more could look to improve sand conditions.A 4.5 hour round goes by quick when you are playing a course that has a little of everything...including plenty of elevation changes to treat those who take on the challenge.Highly recommend. If you can get it booked under 75.00..don't think twice..less than stellar sand traps or notf
