Nice Resort Course
Played from the blue tees Par 3's were all long and challenging
Needs some mowing
This course has a great layout, and friendly staff, but needs mowing. The front 9's fairway was almost as long as the rough.
Moderately Challenging Resort Course
The Whitebirch golf course at Breezy Point Resort is a moderately challenging course that can be enjoyed by golfers of all skill levels. The course features five sets of tees ranging from 6,680 to 4,718 yards. The topography varies from relatively flat to gently rolling, with no extreme elevation changes. Tree coverage on the flatter holes is fairly light and mostly evergreens, while the more rolling fairways are lined with denser tree coverage, primarily hardwoods. Fairways are fairly generous, but a few get quite narrow in strategic locations. Greens are large and gently undulating, and several slope sharply from back to front, so staying below the hole is a must. Having played Deacon’s Lodge the day before, our foursome found these greens to be slower, but not by much. They were smooth and rolled true, with several lengthy putts successfully holed. The opening hole is a 322 yard (from the middle men’s tees) par 4 that doglegs to the left toward a significantly elevated tee. Tee shots that are short or too far left will have to go over a tree that guards the left side of the green. On the other hand, tee shots on the right may have to carry a bunker when the pin is set on the right side of the green. The sixth hole is a visually attractive 349 yard par 4 with an elevated tee shot to a valley from which you’ll be hitting your approach shot to an elevated green that slopes quite a bit from back to front. The number one handicap hole is the par 5 seventh, which seems short at 483 yards from the middle tees. However, danger lurks on a blind second shot, where the fairway narrows at about 330 yards out from the tee with a pond on the right and woods on the left. If you’re riding, take the time to drive up to see exactly what lies in front of you on this hole. Choosing the right club to use for your tee shot on the 16th hole, a 354 yard par 4 will require some thought. From an elevated tee you’ll face a tee shot that must carry a pond to a fairway that doglegs slightly to the right and has several bunkers lining the right side of the fairway. Being long over the water may seem like the safe choice until you notice OB all along the left side of the fairway. A par here will be well-earned. The finishing par 5 hole plays a lot longer than the posted 523 yards because it’s all uphill. The fairway is wide open and the only trouble is that a severely pulled or hooked ball may find OB on the right. Finish with a par and enjoy a cold beverage and lunch or dinner at Antlers Restaurant which is located in the clubhouse.
Great
Enjoyable course.
Some narrow challenging fairways and some great par 3's. Dog legs a plenty.
Fun course. Difficult but not impossible.
I will be back!
So slow needed to leave before finishing
I tried Deacon’s Lodge after a number of years not playing it. I have always liked the course. However, Deacon’s Lodge still suffers from lack of course rangers to help with pace of play. We quit after it took almost 4 hours to golf 13 holes. There were only 2 groups on the last three holes. No ranger in sight. They also allow fivesomes that really holds up play.
Buckle up
Great variety of challenging golf holes, amazing greens especially if you are putting from above the cup. Just a fun, fun trac
disappointed
The staff including clubhouse and starter we’re very unfriendly It was 85° and only saw a bar cart one time. There were no signs to direct you where your next hole was We are seasoned golfers and usually typically know where to find the next hole For a resort course we are expecting better service
Decent course
My son and I playe 18. Was an absolutely beautiful day out. 75 and sunny. We have played the course before. It was in the best shape I have seen it in. Pace of play was ok. Had two groups in front of us that were pretty slow but never had to wait more than a couple minutes to hit. It is nice course maybe a little spending for what you get if not for the deal we got on golf now.
Great day of golf at Deacons!!!
Perfect conditions and friendly staff proved to help the enjoyment and scoring at this premier golf destination. If you visit the Brainerd Lakes area and play one round of golf... play Deacons Lodge!
Just fun
Very courteous staff, fun layout, very family friendly course, just a fun day
slow play
we encountered very slow play from the 8th hole until the end of the round. I think there were some groups from a bachelor party playing and taking way too long. Finally saw a ranger on the 17th hole and told him we were tired of waiting and there 4 groups on a hole several times on the back nine. The ranger told us maybe he should have been out there earlier. They might as well not have a ranger if that's the way it is going to work. Greens very slow and inconsistent also, late spring so I can forget that but not the slow play problem. It will be a long time before I return. Love the area, don't need to play a course that takes up way too much of our time to other things.
Minnesota's finest
One of the better courses I think in Minn. It had a great layout, it was wide open when I played, greens were soft. One of my favorite rounds of golf, had a blast! It would be even better in the fall when the leaves turn!
Minnesota Trip
We were staying at Breezy Point Resort so we decided to splurge and play here. Price varies on what time you play. We paid $80 for a tee time after 2pm. The course was beautiful. 5 sets of tees so you can play anywhere from 7000 yds down to 4500 from the reds. I played the gold tees. I can see where it would really be tough from the black/blue tees. Lots of crooked lies and large undulating greens. Wide fairways but if you miss it's in the woods or the tall grass. It's advertised as the only Public Arnold Palmer design in the US so had to play it once. My only complaint was the pace of play. The starter told us that there was a 5-some in front of us but they were keeping a good pace. Well, the front 9 was fine but the back was terrible! With just the 2 of us we played a different course on Tuesday in 3:17 and on Deacon's it took us 4:35. I don't expect to pay that kind of money and get stuck behind 5 people. They were doing a lot of drinking and spending time looking for balls! That was the only negative. The course wasn't busy so if we could have played through we would have been fine.
So so course
Course is just ok. Priced too high for this less than average course. Lay out nice. Greens are awful! Very slow with bad grass. Some dangerously close tee boxes and fairway play. FORE heard many times!!
Breezy Point Stay
We stayed in a timeshare at Breezy Point so we played here the first day. Got a hot deal on golf now. I don't think I would pay full price to play here. Par 68 so it good for my wife to play. Front 9 is pretty open and relatively short. Back is longer and very tight. Greens were a little slower than I'm used to but the course was in good shape. The resort has an all inclusive option so there were a lot of people drinking as part of the package. We caught up to a couple of 5 somes towards the end otherwise the pace of play was great.
