Great Value for the Money
Course was fun, challenging. The fairways and greens were in great shape, especially for a week of almost 100 degrees. Tee boxes were in fair condition, but very playable. I've played this course twice so far this year and will definitely be playing it again. Being able to shape the ball helps on this course, but if you find fairways, you should find plenty of greens.
Could be a Terrific Course with some Changes
The front nine is goofy, up and down, sort of a makeshift layout. The first seven holes are amateur architecture. Holes 8 and 9 are decent and the back nine is a great layout (Gary Kern design). If they strengthened the first seven holes, this would be a fantastic layout in the countryside. Greens were not perfect, but consistent and acceptable for a public golf course and the money I paid, certainly would not throw rocks at the geens. The fairways are not mown close enough and the ball pretty much stops where it carries on the tee shot, not much roll. It had rained hard as there was still water in most of the bunkers. Some bunkers have not been maintained. If the back nine were like the front nine, I would probably not make the drive again. However, I would consider playing here again for the right price. The last 11 holes make this course a golf course.
My GO-TO course
What a nice course at very reasonable rates, even without GolfNow. There have been rumors about whether the course will survive a new ownership. Based on the amount of workers on the course, and the type of work they were doing, I'm convinced the course is on the upswing. Supposedly a driving range is being built as well, although I have not eye-balled that.
Great value.
The fairways, greens and tee boxes were in great shape. Carts were clean, had fresh water in the club/ball washers. To top it off, we had a late round on Friday after work hours and were late getting back to club house after finishing our 18 holes. And the staff waited for us without any reservation or negative comments about us finishing late (near dark). We had an awesome round (despite my score) and I will be back to Union Hills Golf Course in Pevely, MO as often as my wife will allow.
Course in bad shape
Overall the course was in horrible shape. Roughs were hard to hit out of; fairways were all dirt - no grass
The Greens are great!
The greens were great but the fairway was pretty
rough. Pace of play was fantastic for a Sunday.
No waiting!
Aerated disappointment
Disappointed that we had to play front nine twice due to them aerating back nine. Something like this would be nice to know in advance. Having booked with Golf.now it was too late to not play since there is no refund unless the course is unplayable. They had obviously just aerated front nine since the greens looked like "White Castle " hamburgers.
Fairly decent course when it is all groomed but not this last time.
We were a foursome of ladies that were constantly waiting for a threesome of men who were slower than molasses.
Nice course
It's early yet and the fairways need some sun for the grass to pop . But the greens are in pretty good condition.
Winter savings
For being February the course was in pretty good condition. The pace was fast. Pretty hard terrains. Played 18 and cart for less than $17 through golfnow. Took advantage of of nice in winter. I have not played this course during peak time. Not sure of the value or the course conditions.
The course was in great condition considering the time of year that I was playing.
nice course
Got a great price through golfnow. Played weekday afternoon and had the course to ourselves. Nice layout and in good condition, Sandtraps could use a little work though. Overall happy with the condition . If you haven't played there it's worth giving it a try.
CLOSE TO SOUTH COUNTY AREA
THEY ARE ALWAYS DOING SOMETHING TOO IMPROVE THIS COURSE EVERYTIME I PLAY IT...A GREAT COURSE FOR SOUTH ST.LOUIS RESIDENTS TO PLAY...
Crabgrass
Everything was great on the course except the greens had too much crabgrass on them.
Good course – especially for the value
The course was an overall good shape and one could not complaining about the quality, especially based on the value. Overall the course is picturesque and has a lot of unique holes… One thing that is frustrating is that the staff will send out groups on number 10 which then link fence the round… This has happened twice in the three times I played here… You come off number nine having played the front and good time only to have two or three groups in front of you that weren't there before… Nothing huge but something that they should take into account. Would definitely play here again.
Golf
Had good time course in good shape didn't take all day
Great course! Great value!
Course was in great shape! Tee boxes, fairways and greens were all very well kept. Staff was very friendly. If you're looking for a bite on the turn, do yourself a favor and order a cheeseburger. Made fresh to order and are full of flavor!
Nice course on a beautiful piece of ground
Union Hills is a fine course in great condition that will test player skills with length, elevation changes, and a few challenging design features. The course tests all clubs in the bag as well as all shots in a player's repertoire.
While the course is generally in very good condition, there are a few maintenance items that would make a positive difference. Several lesser-used (red) tee boxes need repair and grooming. Also, 30-40% of the cart paths are buckling and/or deteriorated. Finally, the alge covered lake makes a key feature of the grounds pretty ugly.
That said, the grounds have a comfortable feeling of historic significance much like old country clubs that become open to the public. The price is right for tee times made online. The staff is friendly and helpful.
Union Hills has wonderful potential to make the short jump from its current position to one of the few A+ golf courses in the St. Louis area.
I played the course in the beginning of May as well and cannot disagree more about the shape of the course. Actually had conversations on the course about it being in great shape. Not exactly sure what type of condition you were looking for in a $30 course?
