Mountain Creek Resort
About Mountain Creek Resort
Mountain Creek Resort is a four-season destination in Vernon, N.J., just an hour outside of New York City. It features a waterpark; the 27-hole Great Gorge course, which was purchased in 2018; the Treescape Aerial Adventure Park, home to zip-lining, climbing obstacles and rope walks; and a Bike Park of 52 trails that is loaded with jumps and 1,000 feet of vertical drop. The course was part of the old Playboy Club in the 1970s and 1980s, attracting famous names such as Dean Martin and Bob Hope for a game. It’s a beautiful property with wonderful mountain views and elevation changes. Guests can stay in the Appalachian hotel or enjoy more space and privacy in a one- to three-bedroom townhome rental at Black Creek Sanctuary. Both accommodations offer outdoor pool and hot tub facilities.Facts

1 of my fav local courses but the new starter is a bit cranky
1 of my fav local courses but the new starter she is a bit cranky pants. The old starter Emil is awesome!
Wet fairway
Even though I took a golf cart. I couldn’t go into fairway with golf cart. Some hilly holes made me so tired too walking through each course. Except that it was good to play chilly windy day. All holes were almost empty and enjoyable moment to play a game.
Not playing here agian for a while
The course was really wet. Seems they have drainage issues. Greens were still recovering from aeration.
Nice Track but Slow Pace
I’ve played Great Gorge a few times last year and with the exception of a few holes (#2 and #3 on Quarry) it’s well laid out and can be a fun/challenging round. The pace of play was great on our first 9 (1 hour 40) but the back ground to a halt - 2 and 3 groups backed up on tees. 3 hours and 40 minutes later we completed the back. Inexcusable amount of time without a ranger in sight. Perhaps just early season growing pains but definitely took above average overall to good.
We appreciate you taking the time to review the course and rate us. We are going to pass on your feedback to the team. Thanks for visiting Great Gorge Golf Club - Lake/Quarry Course, and we hope to see you again in the future.
Great Gorge
Loved the layout of Quarry to Rail.
Cart path full of potholes and very rough travel.
Course in very good shape, but without rangers for the past couple of years -- you can count on a 5 to 5 1/2 hour round. That is why people shy away in the summer.
Great shape for April
Course conditions were great after some typical April rain. 4 hour round. Had a great burger and beer on the 19th hole. Friendly staff. The starter got us out 15 minutes early. Great round, will definitely return.
Great shape
some wet spots so cart path only but fairways were great.
April with snow ?
There were snow flurries and wet ground , but the place was in great condition and had fantastic views . Lay out was forgiving , but a good drive was an asset on the long par 4's. I will be back , hopefully with some better weather,
Great course design
There a few drainage issues that need to be addressed, along with deteriorated cart paths with crumbling asphalt and pot holes.
Course conditions
Problem with the conditions of the course. Course was very wet when we got there they told us it was cartpath only. It should be posted when it’s cart paths only a little more difficult for seniors to walk
Great Gorge
For courses in Nj GG is by far the best value for your buck. All 3 layouts are challenging and the views are spectacular in the fall when leaves are turning. My only 2 negatives are… They need to repair cart paths on many holes and they are rate was changed to 65.
Nice Course. Great shape.
I just played this course in the middle of December, so first of all have to thank them for being open! It was great to get out this time of year! Firstly, you have to drive up and drop off your bag and then drive back about say 300 yards away to the parking area. So that's a bit of a pain. But the people and the course are fantastic. The greens were in great shape along with the t's and the fairways even for a summer day much less winter. The only thing that was kind of depressing other than the parking was the Playboy Resort looming over the course obviously filled with mold and decay.... So if you want to feel like you're out in the middle of the country with just you and the trees and the birds, you might want to go somewhere else. But like I said it's a nice course designed by Fazio in great shape with friendly people inside and outside.
