Great Gorge Golf Club - Lake/Quarry Course

About
Great Gorge Golf Club is situated on 500 acres of naturally preserved land, nestled in the Vernon Valley between the Wawayanda and Pochuck Mountain Peaks. Designed by George Fazio in 1970 on behalf of Hugh Hefner for his Great Gorge Playboy Club, the course boasts 3 championship nines: Rail, Lake and Quarry. With four tee box options, the course is manageable for newer golfers yet challenging for lower handicap players, making Great Gorge an ideal venue for all golfers.

Great course
Great track. Very different with 100 foot high tees and fabulous views. It was a 5 hour round so that wasn't good.
Had one of the best cuban sandwiches afterward. Definitely one of the must plays in northern new jersey. Worth the ride.
Nice Course but slow
I found the course to be challenging and in great shape this late in the season. The girls taking you up the hill in the big carts is a nice touch. The starter was also very friendly. The only negative was the pace of play was extremely slow. It took over five hours to finish the round.
Beautiful Course - Fast Pace
Beautiful course, very well kept / maintained grass. Pace of game was very quick. Wouldn’t recommend for beginners TBH, majority of the players who were there had minimal errors. But if you don’t care, I would HIGHLY recommend going.
Enjoyable Day
Except for the aerated greens the course was in good shape with difficult pin placements. Well worth the few extra minute drive north of the Crystal Springs facilities.
Beautiful
Played rail side to quarry. Really nice layout. One hole had an old train platform by the green that they built a bunker around. The quarry 9 was sweet too with a crystal clear pond. Nice elevation changes.
Decent Course
Like all courses now it's pricey for what you get. Fairways we're in good shape. Greens recovering from aeration so putting was not reliable. Traps were awful - dirt with rocks. Just fill them in and cover with grass at this point.
If the drive is holding you back STIFLE!!!
I’ve been excited to play GG regularly lately and conditions only ever seem to get better. For anyone that plays later in the afternoon you’ll understand there is NEVER a cart person. At GG the staff is so dedicated that even at 6:45 pm they still have staff catering to our needs. Pace of play is amazing course is breathtaking so the only thing I can think is the ride seems like too much. People come on!!! My 20 year old took up golf this season and my last plea for sanity is the price. If you are paying for your son or hopefully your girlfriend there is no better value than thy GREAT GORGE. Must play course don’t think about the drive think about the vistas to come.
Unhappy with greens
I have seen the course in better shape. It looked like the course was in fall form. Green were aerated and no one told us. Golf now did not have a notification. Fees were still 100.00. I typically am very happy with this course but disappointed this time.
Questionable value
I’ve played here several times, but not at a $100 price point. The layout is nice but not worth the cost or drive in my opinion. Tee boxes and fairways were chewed up with divots, sand traps were littered with rocks, greens were choppy and just aerated. Only played here bc it was one of the only courses with open tee times within a days notice and now I can see why. Not a terrible course, but certainly not worth $100..
Great time at Great Gorge
Always love this course. The greens weren’t as fast as usual but that was due to very hot and humid weather. Still rolled great.
Pace was fine until the back nine as the group of 2 some held our 4 some up due to poor play and not teeing off until the group in front got on the greens on oar 4 and 5s. Just wish some people learn to follow the pace of play. All in all it was a great day.
Not worth the money.
Played on a Saturday morning, while the pace was fine the course needs a lot of work. The were large bare spots on fairways, cart paths are terrible, and not worth the $100. I played here a few years ago and you would think that they would have improved the overall course but definitely have not. I would rather spend a little more to go to a course at Crystal Springs, which are much better maintained.
Shuttling could be betteer
I had to walk BOTH to and from the golf course from their parking lot because their “shuttle” wasn’t available for either trip… maybe, don’t need a shuttle to and from the course or provide transportation efficiently… lot of time of wasted shuttling to and from driving range too..
