Athenaeum Hotel

About Athenaeum Hotel
Established in 1881, the Athenaeum Hotel isn't a traditional golf resort. It is part of the non-profit Chautauqua Institution, which offers educational programming on the grounds, while also including recreation such as golf, tennis, fishing, swimming, sailing or canoe/kayak rentals. During the spring and fall months, the hotel acts as a host to conferences, weddings and special events that don't require gate passes into the property. The Lakes and Hills courses at Chautauqua Golf Club, which have ties to Donald Ross and Seymour Dunn, have been played by legends Sam Snead and Ben Hogan. Both are roughly 6,500 yards. Multiple restaurants are available.Facts

Chautauqua Gem
Found the course on GolfNow, as a midpoint between Cleveland and Oakville. Hadn't played it before and we were pleasantly (very surprised) and happy. Sleepy little resort style community featuring this challenging 36-hole layout. Tree lined fairways, beautiful surroundings, small tough greens and the entire complex was in great shape. Well maintained and the green rolled fast and true! We played a bit of extra time as the cource was quiet and we'll definitely come back and use this as a destination. !
Great course in best shape I have ever seen it
Awesome day of golf, Both courses where in excellent shape, and I don't mean for a public course. They would presently rival most country clubs in the buffalo area right now. Great idea for a group of four even from the buffalo area to make the day drive to play these to hidden gem courses
Chautauqua Hill Course
This course is always in great condition.
Greens are superb and fairways are well kept.
Staff is always friendly and courteous
Top two of three courses in Chautauqua County
Played the Hill course today and have played the lake course recently. These two courses along with Tri County near Forestville NY are in excellent condition. They are by far the best in the County.
Golf now hot deal is awesome
This course is exceptional. Granted it rained all night and the course was wet, it was still awesome. Can't be the golf now prepay deals either. Shot an 81 today.
Sporty course
Tees, greens, and fairways were in great shape. We played in less than 4 hours. The only negative comment we would have is that there were several blind tee shots on the Hill course, which could use a warning bell.
Nice course, service average!
Nice layout. Challenging greens and several narrow fairways. Plays well for all skill levels
Wish ranger was available to keep pace if play up. Foursome in front of us was 2 holes behind closest group and wouldn’t let anyone pass. Needed a ranger to take control.
Snack bar not open on the course. Cart girl didn’t show up till late in round.
Chautauqua lake course
Chautauqua lake course is always in great condition
Staff is very knowledgeable and friendly as well
Golfnow is losing ground
Got my t time from golf now and there are too many rules all of a sudden to be able to use my bonus points. However, love playing Chautauqua and couldn’t play there without a discount of some sot.
First time around
Picked the Lakes course, cause the Upper course at PKnPK was booked. Was pleasantly surprised because this course is one of the nicer courses for the area and would play again. Actually, plan on trying the Hills course. When on the Lakes course remember where the lake is cause thats where the break is...LOL!
Nice course
The staff is friendly and the course was in great shape.
Hill course
Interesting layout...course in good condition fast greens
Golfnow not a discount anymore .
Love the course but summer prices are inflated even with golfnow discount. Last year was great. This year I can’t afford to play there
Always well kept
If you can get on this course for $35 (with a cart) it’s a good deal. In the resort season whennrates are more than that check out some other local courses. Off-season conditions are great and you’ll save yourself $10-$15
Always a pleasure
I have played this hill course many times and it is always in great shape. The weather was nice, staff is friendly and play moved along at a good pace. One of the best tracks in WNY.
Mickey Mouse
Layout was ridiculous on some holes and there were groups yelling and swearing lime we were at a gun raffle.
No course management.
Course was in great shape for this early in the year. No one in front or behind us. Played the lake course
