Athenaeum Hotel
About Athenaeum Hotel
Established in 1881, the Athenaeum Hotel isn't a traditional golf resort. It is part of the non-profit Chautauqua Institution, which offers educational programming on the grounds, while also including recreation such as golf, tennis, fishing, swimming, sailing or canoe/kayak rentals. During the spring and fall months, the hotel acts as a host to conferences, weddings and special events that don't require gate passes into the property. The Lakes and Hills courses at Chautauqua Golf Club, which have ties to Donald Ross and Seymour Dunn, have been played by legends Sam Snead and Ben Hogan. Both are roughly 6,500 yards. Multiple restaurants are available.Facts

Course was in great shape for this early in the year. No one in front or behind us. Played the lake course
Can’t beat the golf now deal
Great course. Great deal from golf now . Highly recommend both the hill and lake courses
Made my top 10
It was a little wet when we played the lake course from the blues. Every hole has a challenge. Lined with mature trees, escape from errant shots is difficult.
Surprising where grass bunkers with 90° front faces that were very high. But the greens were magnificent. Great roll and undulating. A missed read can funnel you yards from your objective. I am glad they were soft when I played, they must be racetracks on drier days.
You could not ask for a better 18 / 36 for a golf outing.
I have always come to Chatauqua for the fishing, but now I have 2 great choices.
Great day
What's beautiful course to play on such a perfect day!! The weather was beautiful and everything on the course was very lush!! Greens, fairways were fantastic!! Stay out of the rough ⛳️
Excellent course, excellent challenge
Get to Chautauqua Golf Club, it is an excellent layout and in excellent condition. Great challenge!
Classic course
I play the lake course annually. I go to the Chautauqua Institute every year for vacation, and it would be no vacation without playing this course. Every year the course is kept in immaculate shape, and you could forget that you are playing a public course. I especially love the history, and the old timey feel of it. It is also extremely fun to play.
Great Course
The Hill Course at Chautauqua is s top notch golf course. The course is in excellent condition.
Fall Golf is the best
Great weather in Chautauqua Ny leads to an even greater day of golf at an outstanding course.
Bad shape
The greens are not in very good shape at all they were punched witch I can under stand but there were pine needles everywhere and seed pod leaves on every hole this is not a cheap golf course have they ever heard of a leaf blower
Great Course
A top rated course that host the Junior College NCAA Golf Championship for a great value. I would highly recommend playing it.
Great Course at a Great Price
The Hill Course was an excellent challenge. I have played the lower course before but this as my first time playing up top and it did not disappoint.
If you hit good shots you can score (if you are a decent putter). If you hit poor shots, you are punished...sometimes severely but fairly.
Get out here and play as soon as you can. Enjoy fall golf at its finest.
Hill Course/Where's the water refreshments?
Very hot day and we saw the cart girl on #1 and never saw her again. On this course you do not make the turn at the clubhouse and there were few vending machines to purchase any water.
Decent track but on hot days the course management should take care of their playing public.
Great Day for Golf.
Scheduled to play the Lake Course, but it was backed up with many foursomes. The starter offered a solution, "The Hill Course is open, greens were punched 3-4 days ago, good shape, and hardly anyone in front of you." I took his advice, the greens were not perfect, but very doable. The lay-out of the course is enjoyable, some really fun holes, and very scenic. Played from the white tees, reachable par four's in regulation, and challenging par three's. Can't wait to come back in a week or two when the colors are even more vibrant. Golf Now app(VIP Member) provided me with an excellent price for this 3 1/2 hour round.
Sloooooow
The course is beautiful, but since we played the Hill course, because the Lake course was closed for aeration, it was painfully slow. I think 4:45 for 18 holes is sad!!
55 minute wait on a par 3
Played here numerous times and never had an issue like this. There were 5 groups....yes 5 groups waiting to hit on the par 3 7th hole 178 yards. They had a ranger but he was no where to be found. We quit after 9 holes, went into the pro shop telling them very pleasantly of the major backup and that we couldn't be out here all day. Not a word was said ...no offer of a 9 hole refund...nothing. We felt like they could care less. Extremely disappointing
nice course, tough greens, some pins were a little unfair
Great layout
Enough water to be interesting, very quick greens but roll true, pin placements were very tough.
