Why is this course on GolfNow? Value is not even close
I've played this course many times over the years mainly because I knew a staff member and it was free. I play a lot of golf and live at Olde Sycamore so I generally look for deals there but occasionally I want to play another course and Ballantyne always comes up in my search and for a split second I think, "man I'd like to play Ballantyne again" until I look at the $82.00 (down from $92.00) rack rate and NEVER a "Hot Deal." Seriously, why bother? This is NOT an $82.00 course with the other options available for half or a quarter of the price. I can play Old Sycamore most of the time for $30-$35 and I can play Red Bridge for $18 to $25 everyday. Both are every bit the course that Ballantyne is and Sycamore has been voted "Best Public Course" in Charlotte several times. I looked at tee times at Ballantyne today and it's WIDE OPEN all day on FRIDAY! You know why? Because it's $82.00! GolfNow should boot them or they should not participate. It's laughable to post that a "deal" when there are REAL DEALS out there. Ridiculous!
Must play, best public course in the area
Extremely friendly staff, challenging layout and very fast greens
Wow!
At 6,700 yards I was thinking it's a little on the shorter side. Days earlier i went to practice at the course and noticed how fast the greens were. Fast forward to the round, two holes in I knew I was in for a tough day of golf. Each hole was uniquely their own and filled with slopes and elevation differentials including the greens which were running at a 13. This course seemed longer than the 6700 yards and definitely required distance control as you could not be above the hole. Great course, great condition and PGA caliber greens. Only problem is I live in FLA.
Excellent golf course for the $42 hot deal. Very good experience, starter was very personable, gave me a logoed ball. Course very nice, although as a plus handicap thought the greens had too much undulation for the 13+ green speed and wonder how enjoyable course can be for higher handicappers.
Great Use of Land
Second time my wife and I played Ballantyne, both during a hurricane evacuation. A great layout in spectacular condition. Greens were running at a 13. Very friendly staff. A brilliant use of land, hidden away among a well planned office park. One of our favorites.
Beautiful course
Great course. Only downside is extremely fast greens making it very difficult to score well. But still well worth playing for sure.
Excellant Conditions
The course is in perfect shape. Greens were fast, fairways were true.
What a treat! Special course.
Take yourself to the best public course in Charlotte NC on your next birthday! Play from the front fringe. Do not try to putt from the back of the green to the front, you will end up in the front fringe. Cheers
Greens are super fast.
Excellent experience. Great staff and crew. Loved the course. But make sure you spend some time on the practice green. These were the fastest greens I have ever played. About 12 on stimp meter according to the starter. Several 3 putts but it was challenging to think more about approach shots and where to place the 2nd shot.
Great course poor pace
Six hours to play should not be the pace. Mentioned to ranger several times but went on deaf ears. Will be a while before I return.
Fast Greens- Deep Rough- Good Course
Very fast greens, really deep rough, but a fun golf course. A lot of the holes are tight, but the course isn't too long so if you are accurate off the tee with a 3W you can score. Solid conditions, would recommend playing this course- the greens were the fastest I've played anywhere in the area this season.
Ballantyne
Beautiful course and friendly staff. There were no backups the whole day, which made for a speedy round. Have already recommended to friends in the CLT area
Course is NOT was it used to be
The greens have patches were they had to repair them. This used to be a very nice course to play, it has change a lot
Sincerely disappointed
If I had not been to Ballantyne before, and this was my first time, I would never return. The greens had recently been aerated and we were aware of that so that was not this issue. But, the greens (other than aeration) were in terrible shape. Many areas had been removed and patched. The fairways also appeared to have been aerated and were in very bad shape. And, finally the tee boxes were in very bad shape as well. Overall the course condition was much worse than I would have expected from a low-cost muni. With that being written, I have been to Ballantyne about 10 times before and each time the course was in great shape and the experience was superb. So, I am chalking this up to an unfortunate anomaly. Given a little time to recover I will go back.
Wonderfully managed and beautiful course!
I selected to play this course through Golf Now for a great price and was taken away at the service that I received. From the time of arrival my bags were picked up, taken and loaded on a cart by an attendant. The check-in was painless and the staff was very helpful! The putting and chipping area was great as it provided a shaded patio with full food and beverage service while awaiting your tee times. The course itself was beautifully constructed and layed out. The greens were great but with a lot of angulations. The pace of play was great with no prolonged waiting at each tee. There was an ample amount of restroom and water provided throughout the course along with a full food and beverage stand provided on the course between 10th and 11th hole. Overall, my experience was great and I would love to come back and play this course again.
One of the Best Courses in CLT
Whenever you can get this course for a Hot Deal book it. Over priced for the regular rack rate, but one of the better courses in Charlotte.
Don't play on the weekend!
Love the course, played on a Thursday the week before, went back for a Sunday round, mistake. Scheduled tee times every 8 minutes, told by staff they had over 200 rounds scheduled. Doesn't work on this course.
First 4 holes took two hours, with waiting at each hole. Front nine took 3.5 hours, was enough for me, I left. Was starting to move by 7th hole. Slower than Pebble Beach on the weekend.
Course is beautiful, greens were great, I played well, even with the waiting.
Check how full they are before you play.
Great value and fun course
This was my first time playing the course after staying at Ballantyne Hotel for a conference. Course was fairly challenging (I'm a 4 handicap) but mainly because of greens. Greens were in great shape - ran fast and tough pin placements. Overall, course in good shape but you can tell that it gets a lot of play ... I'd play again for sure! Fun course and glad I played here. May be a little difficult for high handicappers.
Great conditions, slow play mgmt issues
Got a great deal on a GolfNow Hot Deal. I think that is the only way I'd play this course and I look for them often. Otherwise, I'd rather drive 15 more minutes for the same quality at half the cost. I have no issues with the course. The course was in great shape. I had an issue with a marshall not properly managing the players. If a foursome has open holes in front of them, the marshalls need to encourage that group to let the threesome behind them play through or speed up. The fact that the foursome is "on pace" is irrelevant and not an excuse if the group behind is playing faster and waiting on every hole.
